GRADING: EACH UNIT WILL BE GRADED AS A: PASS, MERIT OR DISTINCTION FOR BREAKDOWN OF GRADING CRITERIA, SEE ATTACHED SHEETS.

The Brief The work that you produce at this stage of the course will form the main body of work in your portfolios for job or university interviews. By now, you should have a clear idea about what kind of Fine Art interests you. You should also be in the process of developing a set of concerns or concepts that fascinate you. This assignment is all about producing a coherent body of work and presenting it in a professional manner. It is essential from this point onwards that you are investigating aspects of art, design and critical studies that particularly interest you and are relevant to your chosen specialism. Looking at how other artists display, install and present their work will form a key part of this assignment. Ultimately you will need to produce a physical portfolio and an eportfolio presenting and describing professionally mounted, displayed or documented work. Alongside this you will be required to compile a progression file with all the information you have gathered regarding your progression. This file should reflect your choice to apply to university and/or opportunities in the creative industries .

Task 1. Make a Presenting Fine Art Work Folder (To be completed in the first week of the assignment)
(Unit 84. P1, P3, M1, M3, D1, D3)

Visit a range of exhibitions in London Galleries and Museums. While you are there carry out in-depth analysis of how artists and curators display and present the art work. Use the Exhibition Log Book, on Moodle and Posterous, to help prompt you initial investigation into how artwork can be presented. Consider the space itself, the lighting, the written info available, the atmosphere and what kind of effect the gallery wants to create, whom the exhibition is targeted toward and evaluate how effective you think the overall installation is. Compile all your research including photographs you have taken, postcards, drawings etc in a folder entitled Presenting Fine Art Work. Task 2. Select and Develop Your Ideas
(Unit 78. P1, P2, P3, M1, M2, M3, D1, D2, D3)

Through discussion with your tutors and peers, select and develop an idea or set of ideas which excite you artistically have potential for development.

Work through your ideas visually in your sketchbooks and by intensive experimentation with different materials and techniques in studio work. Your sketchbooks should be thoughtful and reflect the work you are producing, the size and type of book is up to you but we expect to see exciting and original pages. These initial ideas should be taken as far as is possible , the first, second or third solution is not enough. Task 3. Produce Final Work

(Unit 78. P1, P2, P3, M1, M2, M3, D1, D2, D3)

From the body of work produced, select, review, and consolidate ideas and experiments to realise into final works suitable for your portfolio. Task 4. Mount and Display
(Unit 84. P2, P3, P4, M2, M3, M4, D2, D3, D4)

Experiment creatively with the presentation of your work both in your sketchbooks, your portfolio and in your own workspace. Document your presentation experiments in your sketchbooks and explain the reasons for your choices making references to other artists presentation techniques. Gather a range of feedback from tutorials, peer assessment and any other informed body as evidence of your research. Then, select the best methods of mounting your work for your portfolio. Task Four. Make a Portfolio
(Unit 10. P2, M2, D2)

Produce a portfolio of artwork suitable for progression onto either university or into opportunities in the creative industries. The portfolio should demonstrate your interest in the specialism as well as the skills and ideas you have developed whilst on the Fine Art course. Task Five. Compile a Progression Pack
(Unit 10. P1, P3, P4, M1, M3, M4, D1)

Collect and research material for suitable progression routes, such as university prospectuses, apprenticeship schemes or jobs and opportunities advertised on the Artists Newsletter and Art Quest websites. Prepare written material to support your progression. This could take the form of a UCAS personal statement, a CV or job application forms. Keep all of the information in an organised progression folder to be handed in at the end of the assignment. You will be expected to participate in a mock interview and you should retain all feedback from your tutors to add to your file. Task Six (Part A): Writing a Contemporary Artists Study

Deadline for this study is 19/12/2012

(Unit 13. P1, P2, P3, P4, M1, M2, M3, D1, D2)

The contemporary artist study is an investigation into artists that are working and exhibiting today and whose practice is, or could be, influential to your own. You will need to write sufficient about each artist to describe and evaluate: -Their practice in general and key artworks -The motivation, concepts and ideas behind their work -The relevance of their work to cultural contexts -The artistic materials, techniques and approaches they use -How their work has been presented and curated This document, along with your research Power Point from last term will help to structure your ideas and content for your dissertation after the Christmas break Task Six (Part B): Developing your Contemporary Artists Study into a Dissertation:
(Unit 13. P1, P2, P3, P4, M1, M2, M3, D1, D2)

Dissertation Title: An Explanation of How a Range of Artists Have been and Could be Influential to My Own Practice For this written piece you will need to add information to your contemporary artists study to describe how the artists use of materials and conveyance of ideas have been inspirational to your own artwork. You may also wish to increase the number of artists you study to include ones you have began to study more recently (the ones you add do not need to be contemporary.) You will need to take regular photos of your artwork , studio space and experimental techniques as your portfolio of artwork develops during this project. These should be used to help explain how you have developed ideas, and used styles and techniques relevant to the artists you have studied The dissertation should include images of yours and others artwork to help stress the arguments you make and should be a minimum of 1000 words. A bibliography is required on the last page listing the websites and books used to source information. Which format should be used to complete this document?
