Listening in Human Communication to improve Interpersonal skills

First of all before we go deeply why listening in human communication could improve our interpersonal skills. We must understand first what is human communication and interpersonal skills. Human communication is refers to all form of communication between people. It could be in interpersonal communication, inter and intra group communication, organization communication, and cross cultural communication are the four specific types communication in the human communication. This definition had show to us that the human communication has strong relation to the interpersonal communication, which could improve our interpersonal skills. Interpersonal skills is skills that used by a person to communicate or interact with another person in the environment or society. This interpersonal skill often refers to people skills or communication skills. It could be like listening skills such as active listening. By having good interpersonal skills it will show that how you to carry yourself in the society, and the way you behave with another people, it also will help your future career. Now we already now that in order to improve our communication skills or interpersonal skills is by communicate with others people. One of the ways to improve our interpersonal skills is by listening in the human communication in the society or environment. Listening is one of the interpersonal skills that have critical function in the interpersonal communication. Therefore it very important to be an active listening, There are four stages in the process of listening: a. Receiving In this stage we have to understand what is our partner speaker want to say and express, we have to able carefully receive the point message that our partner speaker want to say. b. Attending Aside of receiving, you also must be curious and really pay attention to the what our partner speaker want to say. c. Understanding After you done all those stages above, the next step that you have to take understands the message that you have been received. In this step you must analyzes the message that you got and prepare feedback. d. Responding or giving feedback This is the critical stage in the process of listening. By giving your feedback messages to your partner It show you that have been understand the message that you have got and it make you able to giving respond to your partner.

If those four stages of listening are can be fulfill, we could be an active listening. Active listening is a communication technique that require listener to be able to understand, interpret, and evaluate what he or she hears. By being an active listener you can reduce all the obstacles in communicate and interact with another people. It will help you to has a strong relationship with

others people, reducing conflict, strengthening corporation and fostering understanding between another. After we learn about the process of being active listener, now we will go more deeply to the some consideration that we have to concern. Actually we just cannot implement those steps that we have been learned. There is also cultural difference in listening. This cultural difference could be from gender, and culture. For instance the culture of western people and eastern people, for eastern people are needed to greeting each other when they are meeting and talk gradually. In other side it just a wasting time for western people to talk like that, they more likely to talk directly to the point of problem. Another example also that we can take is women and men. When women communicate with others people, they will more trying to understanding the problem by using their feeling rather than logic. Where men is more using their logic to understand the problem that they face rather than using their feeling, so it very critical for us to be able understand deeply about the cultural difference in the human communication.
