iPad Art Digital Dilemmas

Teacher Professional Development Weekend


with Artist in residence Simon Spain

INTRODUCTION The iPad is a potent and experimental tool for creation of artworks. Artist in Residence Simon Spain has developed the use of the iPad to create a new take on portraiture and uses app technologies to push the boundaries of the touch screen. Discover some of the digital dilemmas to be encountered during an immersive weekend at Bundanon Trusts Riversdale property. During the weekend you will create and consider: Is the physicality of the touch screen based art work fully realised whilst still on the screen? What varied outputs can be produced from screen based work? SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES Develop skills in iPad apps- Layer photographs, archival material and found objects Learn how to incorporate varied source material using an iPad Explore multiple outputs on a variety of substrates using inkjet and laser printing

breakfast registration plus refreshments introduction and Welcome introduction to software apps introduction to and demonstration of iPad apps including Procreate, Paper, Photoshop Express and Adobe Ideas. an approach to portraiture- lets play dress ups- create a portrait on the iPad. shoot photos and explore the use of different styluses on the touch screen. introduction to Simon Spains arts practice with the iPad. Simon will share in sights into his artistic journey including works developed at Bundanon in 2012 whilst an artist in residence at Bundanon and works from his recent exhibitions. lunch with a riverscape view source material- what would you use? the afternoon is for play and Pro- creation and skill development demonstration of image transfers onto different substrates wander down the Creek walk to collect images and textures complete a portrait to be combined in a collaborative work- Share ideas free time, drinks at sunset long table dinner in the hall for all partiicpants keynote speech, Artplay: engaging children through art with Simon Spain, Creative Producer- director? nocturnal walk to meet the wombats
