SOUP UP YOUR YARD WITH HOMEGROWN SUPERFRUITS (NAPSA)-Superfruits-fruits that are exceptionally rich in vitamins and antioxidants-are popular ingredients in a variety of healthy foods. Fortunately, although "superfruit" connotes something rare and exotic, a surprising number of these plants, including aronia, elderberry and goji berry, are hardy shrubs that can be grown right in your backyard. They're easy to grow and require no spraying or complicated pruning and produce pound after pound of juicy, nutritious fruit every year. Aronia Aronia is a large shrub native to eastern North America. With showy white flowers in spring and blazing red leaves in autumn, it makes an excellent choice for landscaping around your home. Large clusters of glossy black berries ripen in late summer, making aronia a standout in the kitchen as well as the garden. The fruits are sometimes known as chokeberries because of their very sour flavor but they can be sweetened and used in juice, jam, desserts, even wine, which makes it even easier to savor their high levels of antioxidants and vitamins. In fact, they've been enjoyed in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, and Russia for decades.

Got stress? I read recently about a new type of beverage known as relaxation drinks. Evidently they help you recover from the days stress and the power you received from energy drinks. My wife came home from the grocery store one evening and showed me a bottle of dishwashing liquid. I read the label and it said, Anti-Stress [dishwashing liquid] Aroma Therapy. Anti-Stress is enriched with the essence of Lavender for a soothing and relaxing scent. Now I had heard of candles, bath and massage oils, and incense for stress relief through aroma therapy, but dishwashing liquid, right? We all get stressed out at some time or other, dont we? Besides dishwashing liquid and drinks, try relaxing a little more into who you are each day your core values, priorities, and unique contribution - as you Work Positive.

Aronia tolerates winter temperatures as low as -40 F, and does best when planted where it will get at least six hours of sun each day. Elderberry Elderberry is another North American native shrub that you can count on to beautify the landscape and provide bumper crops of nutritious fruits. Varieties that have been se_lected for ornamental foliage are especially useful for home gardeners, as they are even more attractive than plain green wild types. Black Lace, which was developed in England, where elderberry flowers and berries are eaten regularly, has delicate, lacy foliage in a dramatic near-black color. Black Beauty has bigger, bolder foliage but the same dark purpleblack color. Both offer large pink flowers that give way to small black berries that are very high in vitamin C; research suggests they can be effective in minimizing flu symptoms.

Bridal bouquets are traditionally pale in color, but todays brides are branching out and choosing bolder colors, like burgundy, red and purple. Bouquet color schemes can be monochromatic-all shades of purple, for example-or complementary. With bouquets getting brighter, they have become a real feature in wedding photography, in particular black and white photography with selective coloring.

cards. Everyone who receives a card should also be sent an invitation prior to the wedding. Remember to include any members of your planned wedding party in the list of recipients. Just because a person has verbally confirmed attendance at your wedding doesnt mean they should be excluded from subsequent announcements. Guests may talk to one another and it is best to avoid hurt feelings and any added drama before the wedding by treating everyone equally. Be sure to include the wedding date, your names and the location of the wedding on the save-thedate cards. You do not need to offer RSVP information or detailed specifics at this time. You may want to include a Web site URL on the card so guests can check it frequently for updates on wedding information. Be sure to also include that a formal invitation will follow at a later date. You do not want to cause confusion by having guests think that the savethe-date card is the actual invitation. Also, make sure you address the save-thedate cards correctly to show your intentions with respect to guest invites. For example, be clear about whether children will be invited and whether a boyfriend/ girlfriend or another guest can tag along.
Although save-thedate cards are not a necessity, they have become a popular part of wedding planning to eliminate confusion about invitations as well as help guests plan time off for your wedding.

The good news is that there are simple steps you can follow to keep your eyes healthy and make sure you are seeing your best. Here are some tips from the experts at the National Eye Institute at the National Institutes of Health. Have a comprehensive dilated eye exam. Visiting your eye care professional for a comprehensive dilated eye exam is the only way to really be sure your eyes are healthy. Many common eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and agerelated macular degeneration often have no warning signs. Know your family's eye health history. Talk to your family members about their eye health history. It's important to know if anyone has been diagnosed with an eye disease or condition since many are hereditary. Eat right to protect your sight. Eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, particularly dark leafy greens such as spinach, kale, and collard greens, is important for keeping your eyes healthy. Research indicates there are also benefits from eating fish high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, tuna and halibut. Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight or obese increases your risk of developing diabetes and other conditions, which can lead to vision loss, such as diabetic eye disease or glaucoma. Wear protective eyewear. Wear protective eyewear when playing sports or doing activities around the home or in the workplace. Make a habit of wearing the right type at all times. Quit smoking or never start. Research has linked smoking to an increased risk of developing agerelated macular degeneration, cataracts and optic nerve damage, all of which can lead to blindness. Be cool and wear your shades. Sunglasses protect your eyes from the sun's ultraviolet rays.

DOLLAR STRETCHER TIPS ONE COUPON TOO MANY I am a very frugal person, but when I looked under my sink this week, I found several (about a dozen) containers of body lotion. Yet, I was still clipping coupons and buying lotion. This is a waste of my time, and its impractical to tie up my money in excess inventory. From now on, I will only clip coupons and look for sales on items that I will need in the next month to six weeks. I know this seems quite simple, but I never thought this process out in quite this way before. -Terry K. TOO MANY KEYS? I have accumulated many padlocks and keys over the years. To keep everything straight, as soon as possible, I coat the lock and matching keys with a couple coats of the same bright nail polish from a dollar store. This makes it easier to find on the key ring or in the key box. -Cheri in Brookings, OR

OSWAYO VALLEY STUDENTS GIVE BACK TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY On Wednesday, May 29th, the students, faculty, and staff of the Oswayo Valley Middle/High School participated in a school-wide community service project titled Citizenship Day. Coming just a few days after the nation honored the men and women who lost their lives in the service of our country through Memorial Day observances, Citizenship Day provided the opportunity for the Oswayo Valley Middle/High School community to give back to the local Shinglehouse area. Students completed various service projects at different non-profit and charitable organizations within the community. The junior class traveled to the L.E.E.K. Preserve in Oswayo, PA, to assist with landscaping and painting. Students and teachers also completed projects at the Oswayo Valley Senior Center, Potter County Fairgrounds, Oswayo Valley Memorial Library, Oswayo Fish Hatchery, and many churches in the Shinglehouse area. Middle school students assisted in a streetby-street garbage collection throughout the town. Gail McGee, an English teacher here at Oswayo Valley, contacted organizations earlier this spring regarding the possibility of using some of our student groups on Citizenship Day, remarked Brice Benson, Assistant Middle/High School Principal. The community response was quite positive. Being courteous, generous, and taking pride in ones community are all positive traits that promote good citizenship, said Benson. Some student groups worked on projects on the Oswayo Valley campus. Various students and staff painted the baseball field dugouts, completed landscaping preparations prior to graduation exercises, painted outside buildings and basketball courts, and cleared the cross country trail. Our local community has always supported its young people. said Benson. For such a small school, the support that our Oswayo Valley students receive each year in the form of things like scholarship opportunities, attendance at the school events, and numerous donations from these organizations and people is impressive. Events like Citizenship Day give these students the sense that a spirit of volunteerism and pride is necessary to promote good citizenship in our small towns across this country. f THE FRESH AIR FUND FINGER LAKES, NY COMMITTEE WELCOMES NEW YORK CITY CHILDREN 12 New York City children arrive in Elmira to spend one or two weeks with volunteer host families in Hammondsport, Horseheads, Corning, Troupsburg, Penn Yan, and Bradford The Finger Lakes, NY Committee will be welcoming 12 New York City children as they arrive in Elmira on June 28, 2013. Volunteer host families share their summers for up to two weeks with Fresh Air children, ages six to 18, who leave behind the city streets to run barefoot in the grass or see the stars at night. Some children are leaving home for the first time, while others are returning to visit the same host families for consecutive summers. The Fresh Air Fund is an independent, not-for-profit agency that has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.7 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. Each summer, over 4,000 children visit volunteer host families in rural, suburban and small town communities across 13 states from Virginia to Maine and Canada through The Fresh Air Funds Volunteer Host Family Program. f ST MARYS ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH 111 Wellsville St., Bolivar, NY 585-928-1024 Parish Administrator: Deacon Frank Pasquale Sacramental Priest: Fr. DEC ANNOUNCES TENTATIVE 2013-14 MIGRATORY GAME BIRD HUNTING SEASONS Early Announcement Will Help Hunters Plan Trips The tentative schedule for many of New Yorks 2013-14 migratory game bird seasons is now available, allowing sportsmen and sportswomen to plan outdoor activities well in advance, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Joe Martens announced today. Tentative season dates for ducks, geese, woodcock, snipe and rails can be found on the DEC website at: www.dec.ny.gov/ outdoor/28503.html New Yorks Open for Hunting and Fishing Initiative supports tourism opportunities to further benefit sportsmen and sportswomen throughout the state, Commissioner Martens said. DEC announces the tentative schedule so hunters can begin making plans for statewide hunting trips and for a safe and successful season. Still, we always remind hunters to check the final dates, usually issued in late summer, before going afield. The final season dates, bag limits and other regulations for 2013-14 migratory game bird hunting seasons in New York will be posted on DECs website and announced by a statewide news release, once they are approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Hunters should confirm the final season dates before going afield. The tentative season dates were developed by a team of DEC staff representing all regions of the state, taking into consideration anticipated federal regulations for the coming year and recommendations from Waterfowl Hunter Task Forces established by DEC for each zone. DEC has used a task force approach since 1997, and it has been very helpful for setting seasons where hunter preferences are diverse. For more information about the task forces, go to: www.dec.ny.gov/ outdoor/40737.html Tentative season dates for the Lake Champlain Zone were not included because they will be determined by the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Board following public meetings likely to be held in August in Whitehall, NY and Burlington, VT. DEC encourages New York waterfowl hunters who frequent the Champlain Zone to attend one of these meetings; details will be announced later this summer. Comments and suggestions about the Lake Champlain Zone may also be submitted to any DEC season-setting team member or by e-mail to wfseason@gw.dec.state.ny.us . Copies of the 2013-14 migratory game bird hunting regulations brochure will be available on the DEC website in late August and by mid-September wherever hunting licenses are sold. Governor Cuomos NY Open for Hunting and Fishing Initiative is an effort to improve recreational activities for instate and out-of-state sportsmen and sportswomen and to boost tourism opportunities throughout the state. This initiative includes the streamlining of hunting and fishing licensing and reducing license fees, improved access for fishing at various sites across the state, and increasing hunting opportunities in various regions. For more information about hunting waterfowl or other migratory game birds in New York, visit the DEC website at www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28175.html f FIRST SEVENTH DAY GRACE BIBLE BAPTIST CHURCH INDEPENDENT BAPTIST OF GENESEE CHURCH 8265 Main Street 392 Coon Crossing Road Little Genesee 14754 Shinglehouse814-697-7257 Church: 585-928-1857 Pastor: Roger N. FREE KITTENS TO GOOD HOME, 2 male orange tigers and 2 female black and white tigers. call 716-378-2239. DOLLAR STRETCHER TIPS QUICK PARTY DECORATIONS Lately, it seems Ive been hosting little gatherings at my home more frequently. Since many of these are fun holiday events for my three young nieces or gatherings for my teenage daughter and her friends, a fair amount of festive decorating is needed to set the mood. Instead of having to tape so many items up around the room for each gathering, I attached a small hook to opposite sides of my dining room that a cord can be stretched between. This cord can be fishing line, curling ribbon, clothesline, etc. The cord runs the length of my dining room table directly over it. Now, to decorate for each event, I buy themed decorations and tie them to the cord over the table. Curling ribbon the color of the items I am hanging looks very pretty because I can curl the tops of the ribbons over each item I hang. -Ginger
