Part of making sure that as an established community SM would generate sustainable growth and optimal returns through specific projects that would enable them to move towards a the practice of green.

This would include a continuing journey of improvement for the environment through 4 key areas, which has been discussed thoroughly during the talk. These includes:

a) Solid Waste Management Through extensive campaigns for the 3 Rs (Reduce Re-Use and Recycle) the SM Prime holdings has hosted different campaigns and practiced initiatives regarding proper disposal of trashes and segregation. They maintained color-coded trash bins that allowed each individual to segregate and to take part of the initiative. SM has maintained and their own trash curing process prior to collection. They also involved in different campaigns that involved garbage collection and buying have recyclable plastics to help in the protection of the environment. b) Water Conservation Program Through different practices of conserving water SM changed their faucets and urinals towards the aim of conserving water. They made sure that despite their quest for sustainable development for the environment, peoples needs would never be sacrificed. c) Energy Efficiency Program The use of LENOVO monitors in all their departments and corporate centers has been developed and used with the aim of saving energy. Choosing the proper machines will be helpful for the improvement and for environmental sustainability d) Air Quality Efficiency Program A continuous quest through emission testing, bike parking areas as an initiative to maintain that all transport groups serving and catering to the needs of the market within their jurisdiction contributes and takes part in this green initiative to secure health related and environmental notions beneficial to the chosen market.

The four programs thoroughly discussed during the talk evolved and was strictly enforced by SM prime holdings in their various establishments that could have improved and has been a tool for environmental stability, growth and improvement. As one organization, SM has practiced diversified and well-oriented facilities that could be considered pro environment and pro people. They never sacrificed the quality of their establishments to satisfy one after the other. They made sure that all their goals as an organization has been fully utilized for the improvement and benefit of all individuals that will be affected. Proper training of employees, workers and other branches with in their jurisdiction has been well informed with all the practices involving the green agenda. They were strong partners that uplifted the Business Agenda 21 which has been mandated in the Philippines where green initiatives needs to be taken cared by the implementing organizations. This strengthens the campaign for almost all individuals to support this green initiative. 3) What re the core strategic goals of ASEAN Center for Biodiversity? Biodiversity is considered and defined as the variety of all forms of life, from genes to species, through to the broad scale of ecosystems. Source: http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/biodiversity/ Thus, protection and initiatives must be taken into consideration to point out the need for these ecosystems to be part of our priority. Considering the richness of the Philippines biodiversity, it is a must that we take part in the protection and conservation of different life forms that would be beneficial for the people and for the generations to come.

To realize the vision, mission and mandate, the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity shall have the following core strategic goals: Facilitate coordination. The ecosystem is considered the most biologically diverse unit primarily because an ecosystem consists of the biological community that occurs in some locale, and the physical and chemical factors that make up its non-living or abiotic environment. The boundaries are not fixed in any objective way, although sometimes they seem obvious, as with the shoreline of a small pond. Usually the boundaries of an ecosystem are chosen for practical reasons having to do with the goals of the particular study.

The study of ecosystems mainly consists of the study of certain processes that link the living, or biotic, components to the non-living, or abiotic, components. Energy transformations and biogeochemical cycling are the main processes that comprise the field of ecosystem ecology. Its diverse unit generally consists of different factors that greatly affect its scope. Peoples continuous efforts and oneness is needed to further enhance and evolve in this kind of situation. Together, we have been affected with side effects of the destroyed ecosystem thus, together we must stand to protect and venture towards building a community that will protect it. 5) How can you participate in biodiversity conservation and advocacy? Give specific ways. We have been talking about the countrys flora and fauna and certain ways on how we plan to create a diverse community of protecting the environment. As a person, I looked up with establishments that have taken so many efforts to response to the call for sustainable development. People continuously have been oriented with ways and means of educing the word GREEN in all the things we do.

As an Assumptionist, we were given a venue to be knowledgeable of what to do and what must be our stand to become pro environment. I myself have been practicing certain initiatives particularly by not using straw and recycling papers specially with the reports I make. I made sure that each side of the paper has been used prior to disposal.

As a family, we are encouraged to segregate our trashes in order to take part in the call of protecting the environment. Certain policies of turning of the lights and conserving water have been taught early on.

In my simple ways, this could be my contribution in participating in biodiversity conservation. Hoping that if a lot of individuals would think of the future and of the environment who has been taking good care of us, we can now live in a peaceful, economically vibrant and sounding community which we are all aiming for.
