GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH

(Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod) LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS June 23, 2013

THE FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

PRAYER UPON ENTERING CHURCH
Merciful God and Lord, You graciously sought me out through Your Word even though I did not ask for or seek You. By Your grace and mercy You made me Your child and an heir of everlasting life through the suffering, death and resurrection of Your Son, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Grant that I bear fruit in my service to You and in my witness of Your love for me to others. I pray this in Jesus holy name. Amen

WELCOME
We welcome you to Grace! It is indeed good for you to be here today. May the Lord bless your time here today as you hear His Word and respond with hymns, prayers, praise and thanksgiving as your faiths response to the Good News of forgiveness and life. If you are not a member of Grace and desire to learn more about our teachings as drawn from Gods Word, please speak with our Pastor. Once again we are glad you are here and we invite you to come and worship with us again. We ask that everyone fill out an attendance registration card found at each pew and return it to an Usher as the Offering is collected. Restrooms are located on the lower level of this building or across the bridge on this floor level before entering the fellowship hall. Children are welcome in our Service and will be invited to come forward for a Childrens Message. Parents may accompany them if they wish. A nursery for infants and toddlers is located downstairs for anyone who has need. If you have any questions please speak with an Usher or Greeter.

AS WE GATHER
You have possibly seen it on television or in the movies. Maybe you have even been to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and seen it in personthe towering statue of Christ the Redeemer (or Christo Redentor as it is known in Portuguese) appearing to open his arms wide as if to embrace the entire city below. At 130 feet tall, including its 31 foot pedestal, and with arms spanning 98 feet wide, this breath taking masterpiece is located at the peak of the 2,296-foot Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park. This image of the Brazilian Christo Redentor recalls todays Old Testament reading from the prophet Isaiah, I spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people (Isaiah 65:2) Judgment for Israel is certain as God warns, I will measure into their bosom payment for their former deeds (Isaiah 65:7). While we, too, deserve nothing but His wrath, God in His mercy also promises that He has chosen us to be His people (Isaiah 65:9). In Jesus outstretched arms, God lovingly calls us to Himself to give us forgiveness of our sins and eternal life. Thanks be to God!

THE ALTAR FLOWERS The Altar Flowers are given today to the glory of God and the beautification of His House by Grady and Jo Hanna Worden in thanks for all of the blessing received in the (first) 21 years of marriage. Exhortation

we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen

Declaration of Grace

John 1:12; Philippians 1:6

A In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for His sake God forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ He gives the power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. May the Lord, who has begun this good work in us, bring it to completion in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. C Amen

Service of the Word

Introit
Ps. 71:2024; antiphon: Ps. 71:3

A Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come; C you have given the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. A You who have made me see many troubles and calamities will revive me again; C from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again. A You will increase my greatness C and comfort me again. A I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; C I will sing praises to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. A My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you; C my soul also, which you have redeemed. A And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long, C for they have been put to shame and disappointed who sought to do me hurt. C Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. A Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come; C you have given the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF

Our LWML Evening Guild Lutheran World Relief Project this year is School Kits. These kits provide the only supplies for children returning to school after the disruption of war or they help parents continue their childrens education while living in a refugee camp. We have most of the items that we need to make 20 school kits. To complete these kits we are in need of the following: 70-sheet bound notebooks of wide or college-ruled paper pencil sharpeners blunt scissors

We are also in need of volunteers to make school bags for these supplies. Easy patterns for the bags can be found in the breezeway. After we fill these kits we will provide the complete list to make additional School Kits. Thank you for supporting our Lutheran World Relief Projects. Contact Ginny Ralston at 425-1487 if you have questions.
