T his letter is to inform you that Aetna will no longer offer Individual Health products in California effective July 1, 2013.

After reviewing our portfolio of Individual Health Insurance plans in California, we detennined we can no 1011ger n1eet the needs of our custon1ers while remaining competitive in the Individual Health insurance market. As a result, we want to notify you that Aetna Life Insurance COlnpany will stop selling Individual PPO health insurance policies in the State of California after July 1,2013. You or one of your dependents is currently enrolled in one of these plans. We will continue to administer your Individual Health insurance plan through December 31, 2013. YOllr coverage will cease at n1idnight December 31,20 13.Your Aetna individual health insurance policy will not be renewed after December 31,2013. You should obtain other health insurance coverage before December 31,2013 to avoid a lapse in coverage. This letter serves as written notice of the withdrawal of your coverage as required by state and federal law.

How we came to this decision


The decision to stop offering plans is never easy. We look at a number of factors before n1aking such an important decision: Are we able to provide affordable plans? Are we providing plans that give consumers the choices they need? After answeril1g these questions, we believe the decision to stop offering Individual Health insurance plans in California is in keeping with the best interests of our customers, as we believe there are insllrers who can better meet YOllr needs. Under the Affordable Care Act and California law, insurance carriers that participate in the individual health insurance marl<et in California in 2014 are required to issue policies to applicants without regard to their health status. Open enrollment for 2014 coverage nlns from October 1,2013 and continues through March 31, 2014. Before December 31,2013 you
