Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE) kicked off their event season with their 8th Annual Fashion Show on May 30th, 2013 at the Nicollet Island Pavilion in Minneapolis. Designers included Tony Eliason and Lauren Peyton, Cynthia Rae, Tamara Cutsforth, Ayah Ahmed, Caroline Hayden and Enna Le Uqar. The event aimed to raise funds to continue its awareness and education programs, and more specifically to launch a special research project to target the warning signs of teen suicide. The evening began outdoors in a large white tent that served as a dining and silent auction area with the waters of the Mississippi River rushing behind us . The fashion show took place inside the pavilion, an indoor space with a fresh and chic vibe, expressed by rectangular chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and floral vases that were placed on each table. Before the runway segment began, a professional auctioneer conducted the live auction portion of the evening followed by a short performance by comedian, Kristin Anderson. The event ended with the runway show that emphasized a variety of womens styles including poppy to bold, kaleidoscopic prints by designer, Cynthia Rae, and wearable attire for the everyday person by designer, Carolyn Hayden. We were exceptionally impressed by the large number of attendees and prestigious sponsors (e.g. Mall of America, POPP Communications, Crystal Farms to name a few )

The history of Hmong art is rooted and sewn into the fabrics of traditional Hmong clothing where the unique combination of vibrant colors and textures makes the Hmong identifiable. Fresh Traditions is the result of the increasing interest in the fashion industry by Hmong artists. Fresh Traditions Fashion Show is a culturally inspired fashion event which exhibits the creativity, originality and quality of work by Hmong fashion designers." This 6th fashion show continues to show the growing MN Metro Hmong designers' passion for exhilarating fashion tastes.
We caught up with the talented local Minnesota designer, Raquel Redmond at the Enna Le' Uqar fashion show. It was to re- launch her spring collection that brought a scorched-earth attitude. Raquel's inspiration this season made up of rock star, diner dames, with a splash of urban harem pants. It was rather weird in a unique sense because of the rock star theme.
