M900/M1800 Base Station Controller Data Configuration Manual - Dynamic Configuration

1.1 Principles of the Data Configuration

1.1.1 Approaches for the Data Configuration
The data configuration is implemented through the BSC Data Auto Configuration System (DACS). This system uses a GUI interface and a wizard for the configuration and provides the following three data configuration modes:
z z z

Initial Data Configuration Work Mode System Dynamic Configuration Work Mode View Data Configuration Work Mode

The description about the three modes is listed in Figure 1-1.

Table 1-1 Description about the three configuration modes Mode Initial data configuration work mode Description Most of the configuration is automatically implemented by the system. You only need to input the data and make some adjustment. System dynamically configuration work mode View data configuration work mode The configuration is task-oriented. You can complete the task by following the wizard. The system generates commands automatically. Under this mode, you can view the network topology, network planning data, and engineering data.

You can start the BSC DACS system:

z z

Through the OMC System. Through the iManager M2000 System.

Through the OMC System

To start the BSC DACS system through the OMC system, you can
z

Start the OMC Shell, connect to the OMC Server, and then start the BSC DACS system if the OMC Server exists. Start the OMC Local WS, connect to the BAM by specifying the IP address of the BAM, and then start the BSC DACS system if the OMC Server does not exist.

1 Introduction to Data Configuration

Through the iManager M2000 System

To start the BSC DACS system through the iManager M2000 system, you can
z

Connect to the M2000 Server through the iManager M2000 client, and then start the BSC DACS system if the M2000 Server exists. Without M2000 Server, start the Local WS through the iManager M2000 Client and then set the IP address of BAM, and then start BSC Data Auto Configuration System.

When the BSC DACS system starts, it downloads the file AutoCfg.dat from the BAM to the Work Station (WS) through FTP. After the transfer and conversion or the dynamic configuration is accomplished, the BSC DACS system uploads the file AutoCfg.dat from the WS to the BAM through FTP.

The BSC data configuration principle is shown in Figure 1-1.

Figure 1-1 Data configuration principle

1.1.2 Data Types

Besides the module data, there are also such important files as cc08.bsm, cc08.ctn, cc08.mcm, cc08.mcs and cc08.snt under the directory \DLOAD. The data under the directory \DLOAD cannot be deleted or modified during the routine maintenance. The description about the data types is listed in Table 1-2.

1.1.3 Saving, Restoring, Transferring, and Converting Data

All the directories mentioned in this manual are the default installation directories unless otherwise stated

To save the data, choose File > Backup Data to. To restore the data, choose File > Reload Data from if the system exits abnormally. After all the data is configured, convert the auto configuration data into the *.DBF format and then into the *.DAT format. Finally reset all the modules to load the data.

1.2 Operation Authority

Wrong data configuration or improper operations can greatly affect stability of the system. To avoid this, the operation authority must be properly managed.

A user name and password cannot be shared by multiple operators. The operators granted with the advanced authority must be expert at operating the system. To ensure the stable running of the system, the BSC32 divides the users into three categories. The operation authorities of these users are as follows:

Table 1-3 Operation authorities of various users User Advanced user Operation Authority Enjoys the highest operation authority. They can implement any kind of data configuration. Advanced users refer to users with authorities to manage the OMC. Ordinary user Can enter the System Dynamic Configuration Work Mode and the View Data Configuration Work Mode. Ordinary users include users with Service Setting Authority, users with Management Authority, and users with OMC Setting Authority. Browse user Can only browse data.

1.3 Configuration Procedure

The file AutoCfg.dat is stored in C:\OMC\BSC\BAM\dload\cfgdata. It is automatically backed up to C:\omcbkup\ G3BSC32V300R002C13 at 3:00 a.m. every day.

The name of the backup file is YYMMDDHHMMSS.Dat, which means Year Month Day Hour Minute Second. The procedure to configure the data is as follows: Step 1 Back up the files AutoCfg.dat and *.dbf in the BAM. The directory of the AutoCfg.dat is C:\OMC\BSC\BAM\dload\cfgdata. The directory of the *.dbf is C:\OMC\BSC\BAM\dbf. Step 2 Prepare a detailed data configuration scheme and a recovery measures for failure. Step 3 For the critical dynamic configuration, first perform it in a simulating environment and check whether the refreshed DBF data table is correct. If it is correctly refreshed, perform the operation in actual environment. Step 4 If the transfer and convert operation fails during the initial configuration, repeat this operation until it succeeds. Step 5 If abnormality occurs during the dynamic configuration, refer to section 1.8 "Troubleshooting to handle it. ----End

1.4 Starting the BSC DACS System

If you start the BSC DACS for the first time, the system gives the prompt saying "The data file in BAM is demolished, please repair the data file first and then restart BSC Data Auto Configuration System" when there is no AutoCfg.dat in the BAM. To handle this, refer to part 1.8.3 "File AutoCfg.dat not Exist in the FTP Server."

The BSC DACS system can be started through the following three ways.

Through the OMC Shell

Step 1 Start the Huawei GSM OMC SHELL. In the main interface of the Huawei GSM OMC SHELL, right-click a BSC icon to show the shortcut menu, as shown in Figure 1-3.

Figure 1-9 Starting the BSC DACS system through the OMC Local WS

The BSC DACS system obtains data from the FTP Server. After the data is successfully loaded, the work mode selection interface appears, as shown in Figure 1-4.

Regardless of the way through which the BSC DACS system starts, the BSC DACS system always obtains the configuration data through the file AutoCfg.dat stored in the BAM. This ensures the integrity and consistency of the data. Back up the file AutoCfg.dat before implementing some critical operations (for instance, transfer/convert data table, dynamic configuration and refresh selected tables) because these operations refresh the file AutoCfg.dat.

----End

1.5 Introduction to the Initial Data Configuration

Use the initial data configuration only for new deployment or large scale upgrade in an office. After transferring/converting data under the initial data configuration, reset the BSC to load the data. Otherwise, the data in GMPU, DBF, and BSC DACS may be inconsistent.

The initial data configuration uses a GUI interface and provides default data configuration. You only need to input some data and the system auto checks the validity of the data and generates the data configuration.

1.5.1 Starting the Initial Data Configuration

The procedure to start the initial data configuration is as follows: Step 1 Log in to the BSC DACS as an advanced user (with the right to mange the OMC). Step 2 In the Welcome to Data Auto Configuration System interface, as shown in Figure 1-4, choose Initial Data Configuration Work Mode. The dialog box as shown in Figure 1-10 opens.

Internal Processing Flow of the Transfer/Convert Operation

The internal processing flow of the transfer/convert operation is as follows: Step 1 The BSC DACS verifies if all the data are correct, for example, to check whether the CGI is duplicate, and whether the RC is allocated with frequencies. Step 2 Calculate all the data according to the current configuration, for example, the board No., radio channel configuration table, LAPD signal connection table and LAPD semi-fixed connection table. Step 3 The BSC DACS sends the command OMC_DELETE to the BAM to clear the DBF data in the BAM. By default, all the tables are cleared. If you specify the tables, only the specified tables are cleared. Step 4 Based on the current configuration, the BSC DACS determines what data is to be filled into the DBF data table, encapsulates these data into frames, and send them to the BAM. The BAM fills the data frames into the data tables. Step 5 After the transfer operation, the BSC DACS auto saves the file AutoCfg.dat in the workstation, and then load the file to the BAM through FTP. Step 6 If the uploading of the file AutoCfg.dat to the BAM fails, the convert operation is not executed. In this case, do not exit the BSC DACS. After resolve the fault of FTP Server, upload the file AutoCfg.dat again. Step 7 After succeeding in uploading the file AutoCfg.dat, the BSC DACS sends the convert command to convert the data. After the transfer and convert operation, reset the BSC entirely to keep the data consistency between BAM and GMPU. ----End

1.6.9 Dynamic Configuration Process

With Command
The process of the dynamic configuration with command is as follows: Step 1 The BSC DACS generates all data for BSC table according to this dynamic configuration. Step 2 BAM data tables are refreshed according to the corresponding table IDs in the command, and the command is filled in the Command Reference Table.

"Refresh" means to clear the data table first, and then fill in the table with new data record.

Step 3 The data is saved to the configuration file in the BSC DACS, and the corresponding data table and command line parameter are set to the current module (BM), and data will be stored into the configuration files of the BSC Data Auto Configuration System. The step is described as the first setting in the following text.

If part of the data tables need to be sent to all modules (BM), the BSC Data Auto Configuration System will refresh these data tables and clear the record in the table of command line parameters. Then the configuration file will be saved to the BSC Data Auto Configuration System, and these data tables (including the empty table of command line parameters) will then be set to all modules (BM), and configuration data will again be stored into the configuration files of the BSC Data Auto Configuration System. The step is described as the second setting in the following text.

Sending data tables to all modules is also called Inter-module Broadcast.

Secondary setting can be performed for the following dynamic operations. Such as add/delete sites, add/delete cells, add/delete TRXs, add/delete external cells, modify external cell property, modify interface phase flag, modify cell handover parameters, modify cell FH attributes, modify cell BCC and NCC, modify TRX channel type, modify TRX frequencies, modify cell installation status, modify voice optimization parameters, modify monitor timeslot, configure bypass switch, configure BIE trunk networking mode and mobile BTS.

The procedure of batch modify cell parameters is same as the procedure described in above. System generates the corresponding commands. The configuration procedure is determined by the commands.

Without Command
BSC Data Auto Configuration System generates all data for BSC table according to this dynamic configuration without command. BAM data table will be refreshed according to the corresponding ID of the current configuration. And then the corresponding data table will be set to all BM, and data will be stored into the configuration files of the BSC Data Auto Configuration System.
