Small description of the match (extra-ordinary incidents etc.): Final match of Group D with the facts of the match more or less known. Mali needed a win in order to have a chance to qualify even directly by taking 1st or 2nd place or at the very least qualify as one of the best third teams. Mexico needed only to win in order to have chances to qualify as one of the third best teams. The match was played at Kamil Ocak Stadium at Ganziantep and with a small attendance of 3.500. Pitch conditions and weather were good. The match was quite normal even though it had 5 goals and some situations that needed the referees attention.

Jesus Corona (MEX) kicks the ball ahead and tries to make a counter-attack. Boubacar Diarra (MLI) throws him at the ground by hitting 24 him at his knee. The Mali player is coming with a lot of speed and the foul seems serious but you cant really tell that the defenders intention is to hurt his opponent. For me it is a red card but Cakir issued only a Yellow. Penalty appeal by Mali. Niane (MLI) fells inside the penalty area after a collision 84 with Fuentes (MEX). The collision seems accidental and therefore I cant detect an infringement. So the referee correctly waived play-on.

Basic Observations (refer to the general application of the LotG, highlight the referees tactical approach, personality, match control, management of the teams and players, teamwork etc.). Please deploy short but precise and detailed sentences! Positive Points Foul detection. Very good foul detection and especially no foul detection even 1. though the match presented a relatively high number of fouls (28). Advantage law. Excellent application of the advantage law especially since some 2. Mali players were consistently making fouls. In some cases he could predict the advantage and in other cases he waited even more than 3. Positioning and movement. He was always positioned well and especially at set 3. pieces. He was able that way to follow play but without interfering with it and be near the penalty area when needed. Points for Improvement Card management and player management. After Mexicos second goal several Mali players were using their hands on their opponents faces because they 1. seemed frustrated by the fact that they were loosing the match. A better approach especially after the 2 cards (min. 12,15) was needed. 2. More consistency needed especially in cases of punishing the same offences. He shouldnt be influenced by the score-line. The referee shouldnt be worried 3. about that since the LoTG should be applied at its full extend.

Further observations (peculiarities of the referee revealing his character) Even though he started the match in a good tactical approach by punishing every infraction and issuing the needed YCs, after Mexicos second goal he started being very lenient and tried to speak more to the Mali players especially after fouls committed by using their hands on the opponents face. Until the end of the first half there have been numerous stops on the match in order to provide medical help to an injured player. Cakir issued 2 quick YCs (min. 12 15) but failed to continue at the same manner and it became clear the he was influenced by the score-line and the easy win for Mexico.

Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the ARs behaviour He had only 1 offside call so the match was quite normal for him He was always Full time alert and helped the referee by indicating fouls near his area. 07 Nimaga (MLI) is flagged for offside. Correct.

He was Full time always alert at his area of vicinity helping the referee with fouls near him. 40 Marin (MEX) is flagged for offside. Correct. 80 Sissoko (MLI) is flagged for offside. Correct.

Fourth Official
