TODAYS GAME: the Generals continue a homestand tonight with game #3 of the 5-game series against the Birmingham Barons. This is the 3rd and final series between the North Division rivals with Jackson leading the season series 7-5...Since 2008, the Generals are 31-14 at home against Birmingham... 26-year-old lefty Anthony Vasquez makes his 2nd Jackson start of the season toniht Vasquez made 3 rehab starts for A- Clinton going 0-2 with a 3.31 ERA after starting season recovering from a shoulder injury and brain surgery. GENERALS RECAP: The Generals scored took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning and scored 3 more runs in the 7th inning as Jackson held on to defeat Birmingham 5-3 on Sunday. LF Leon Landry (2x3, RBI, 2 SB), SS Chris Taylor (2x4, R, 2B, RBI, SB), CF James Jones (2x4, RBI) and 1B Steven Proscia (2x3, R) each recorded 2 of the Generals 10 hits. 2013 Season: ...Began season on disabled list and was assigned to A- Clinton on 6/10 Made 3 starts for A- Clinton going 0-2 with a 3.31 ERA in 16.1 innings Promoted to Jackson on 6/22 and makes first start on 6/25 at TNS. 2012 Offseason/Brain Surgery: In November while working out in Arizona Vasquez began experiencing headaches and blurred vision, tests revealed that a blood vessel had ruptured in his brain. Vasquez was taken to the Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Josephs Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, where a 5 1/2-hour surgery removed a potentially fatal tangle of arteries and veins in the brain called an arteriovenous malformation. Dr. Robert Spetzler, considered one of the worlds top experts in treating brain AVMs, works at the Phoenix hospital and performed the surgery. 2012 Season: Limited to only 11 starts with Tacoma...went 3-0 with a 0.87 ERA (2 ER, 20.2 IP) in first 3 starts, April 9-19 tossed season-high 7.2 innings on April 19 at Sacramento (7.2,4,0,0,2,3,W)placed on the disabled list on June 7 for the remainder of the season with right shoulder inflammation.
