ach one of us yearns to have a direct and clear communication with The Divine about the burning questions of our hearts. In Conversations With God, Neale Donald Walsch is told over and over again that it is not a question of whether God speaks to us, but whether we listen. In the Direct Connection program, Neale teaches how to do just that.

He will invite you to enter into a moment in which you can know the physical presence of God and receive a direct answer to the most pressing questions in your life. Past participants have called it an experience they will never forget and one that they know they can duplicate whenever they wish. If you are facing a challenge, coping with unexContinued on page 4. e are living in a time of great change. Every era of time has had change in it; however, many are recognizing intuitively, and in other ways, that something of significant proportion is underway. I share this not to create fear, because the reality is that whats being called for in our world more than anything else is a reduction in fear and separation and an escalation in the consciousness of love and unity. Nevertheless, one cannot ignore the current world challenges of climate, terrorism, pollution, shaky economics, oil crisis and other events going on. Ask yourself if you believe things just happen or happen justly. Hopefully you agree that there is order to our universe and that despite mans flaws and investment in the external world, there are always forces at work to offer healing and restoration. Astrology says that planets and large masses have some kind of pull or effect and one only need look at the movement of the tides caused by the moon for proof. Numerology also is a science in which we are told the number ten is a number of completion. The number eleven represents a time of change, rebirth, and spiritual enlightenment. At this time, the planets are moving into what astrologists say is the eleventh house or Age of Aquarius, which is known as the era of change. The Mayan and Hopi calendars and even messages on the walls of the Great Pyramid of Egypt point to this time as an ending and a new beginning. It is not the end of the world, but a major shift in human experience where humanity is being called to awaken spiritually, change the way we live, and evolve in consciousness. This is a time like no other to deepen oneself in spiritual principles and relationship with the Divine. It is a time like none other when we must heal our fears and bring forth deeper dimensions of love. A spiritual community will be of tremendous help during these times of outer and inner change. Unity is here to serve as a spiritual energy field that you can enter, help strengthen, and thereby, offer strength to others and yourself. It is my hope that we can all unite in Unity with the intention to be there for each other and to align with the Divine in ushering in the energies of heaven here on earth.

Drawing from experience

by Patti Rice, Unity Board member It was 7th grade art class. Miss Johnson was the teacher. Project after project returned C-, D, C+, sometimes an F. At times Miss Johnson would openly ridicule my projects in front of the class. Patti Rice I didnt understand why if art was interpretive and about expression, how could I, a typically A student, be doing so poorly? For some reason Miss Johnson and I just didnt click. By the end of the semester I had decided I just didnt have any artistic ability, and so be it. Its 40 years later, and after taking years of art history classes and being around artists, I felt the urge to take a beginning art class. But that old thought was there that I didnt have any artistic ability, so why bother? The urge would not go away, so, with great trepidation, I signed up for Beginning Drawing class. I was absolutely convinced as the first class started that the 7th grade experience would be repeated and I would not do well. At the end of the first class, after drawing squares and ovals with some shading, the instructor told us to turn our easels around so everyone could see what each other had done. Okay, this is it, I thought here it comes ridicule. And I could not have been more pleasantly surprised. My work stood evenly with the others in the class. I had thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The instructor was supportive and positive about everyones work, even mine. I realized that I had allowed Miss Johnson to define me as non-artistic for most of my life. I dont know that I will become another Picasso, but that doesnt matter. I have been given a gift to revisit part of me that had been lost. What other areas of my life have had some kind of definition or have been subdued and have limited me? I cant wait to find out! What about you?

Sanctuary
One of Unitys favorite guest speakers, Dr. Jill Carroll will present the lessons at our 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday services on Sept. 5 and Oct. 3. Dr. Carrolls presentations provide insight on the Bible, issues of world religion and world politics, and the importance of religious diversity training in an increasingly interconnected and diverse world. She believes peaceful coexistence among people of different religions and cultures is the central challenge of our era. Likewise, she also believes peaceful coexistence can be achieved when people make an effort to understand each other rather than relying on stereotypes and prejudice. Dr. Carroll is an adjunct associate professor in Humanities and Religious Studies at Rice University. She is the author of A Dialogue of Civilizations: Gulens Islamic Ideals and Humanistic Discourse.

The Goddess has been returning to Western consciousness for decades through the womens movement, Goddess rediscoveries, and more. We will explore some of the rich and hopeful implications of that achievement with special emphasis on the return of the Black Madonna. It also is time to resurrect the sacred masculine so that the Goddess may have a proper consort. Much of what passes for masculinity in our culture and religion is anything but sacred. It is toxic, and this toxicity affects not only men but also women in their roles as mothers, sisters, spouses, and human beings. This lecture, based on Matthew Foxs new book, The Hidden Spiritualityof Men, will explore ancient archetypes of the sacred masculine. There will be a question and answer discussion. The sacred marriage of the masculine and the feminine will be our goal. Matthew Fox is the author of 28 books including Original Blessing; The Reinvention of Work; Creativity: Where the Divine and the Human Meet; One River, Many Wells: Wisdom Springing from Global Faiths; A Spirituality Named Compassion; A New Reformation!; The A.W.E. Project: Reinventing Education, and Reinventing the Human.

He asks all those interested in additional information to e-mail him at unitytexas@unityhouston.org.

Reiki is a natural healing art that allows energy to flow from the divine Source of all healing, through the practitioner, into the receiver. A Reiki Circle is an informal gathering of both Reiki practitioners and those interested in receiving the healing energy.
