Clearance Phraseology/Procedures - IFR Departures

1. After the aircraft calls for clearance acknowledge the pilot and tell him that his clearance is on request and to standby. 2. Confirm his route of flight is correct and his filed altitude is correct for direction of flight. 3. Advise the pilot that you have his clearance and have said pilot advise you when ready to copy. Example : (acrft call sign) I have your clearance, advise when ready to copy. This clearance assumes KSEA Approach is operational. Make sure you refer to individual airport SOPs for the correct initial altitude assignment (acrft call sign), Seattle Clearance Delivery, Cleared to ________ airport as filed, via (SID if filed)Maintain one-five thousand, expect(filed altitude) one-zero minutes after departure. Departure Frequency 119.20, squawk____. 4. The pilot will read back the clearance verbatim. If the read back is correct, advise the pilot that the read back was correct and ask the pilot to advise you when ready to taxi. Example : (acrft call sign) read back correct, advise when ready to taxi. 5. When the aircraft calls you and states they are ready for taxi, issue appropriate taxi instructions. OR (acrft call sign), Runway 34Left via Bravo, Wind(degrees to the nearest 10th)at(speed to the nearest 10th), Altimeter____. NOTE : If the pilot states that he has the numbers or current ATIS information you do not give the wind and altimeter information. NOTE : If the weather at the airport is IFR(broken or overcast cloud cover less than 1000ft and or visibility less than 3 miles) and the pilot DOES NOT state that he has thenumbers or the current ATIS information you MUST issue ceiling and visibility information in addition to the wind and altimeter. As soon as the pilot reads his clearance back correctly, wait for the pilot to request taxi instructions then issue the appropriate taxi instructions. If no Tower is in operation simply resolve

any conflicts with other taxiing aircraft and advise him to change to advisory frequency. (acrft call sign), change to advisory frequency approved. 6. If the Tower is operational and you have resolved any potential conflicts with other taxiing aircraft, you will initiate a handoff using FlightStrip. As soon as the tower controller receives the strip, you then have the pilot contact tower on the appropriate frequency.

Clearance Phraseology/Procedures - VFR Departures

Do not issue a route/altitude clearance of any kind to any VFR aircraft UNLESS that aircraft will be operating in Class BRAVO Airspace. If the aircraft will be departing in Class BRAVO airspace issue a clearance into the BRAVO airspace to maintain his requested altitude. Class BRAVO Airspace is only active if there is an approach controller on duty. This example assumes Seattle Class BRAVO airspace is active. (acrft call sign), cleared to operate in the Seattle Class Bravo airspace. Maintain (filed altitude). Departure frequency 119.20. Squawk ____. As soon as the pilot reads back the clearance, issue taxi instructions. (acrft call sign), Taxi to runway 34Left, Wind(degrees to the nearest 10th) at(speed to the nearest 10th),Altimeter____. OR (acrft call sign), Runway 34Left via Bravo, Wind(degrees to the nearest 10th)at(speed to the nearest 10th), Altimeter____. If working a Class C or Class D operation just issue appropriate taxi instructions. You do not ever clear VFR aircraft into Class C or D airspace. Clearance Delivery/Ground SHALL NOT issue ROUTE/ALTITUDE CLEARANCE to any VFR aircraft departing Class C or Class D airspace. NOTE : You might hear a pilot Request VFR clearance to some airport. Do not be confused by this request. If not operating in a Class BRAVO environment you simply acknowledge the pilot and issue appropriate taxi instructions. 1. After resolving any potential conflicts with other taxiing aircraft, you will initiate a handoff using FlightStrip and have the pilot contact the tower on the appropriate frequency. Issuing Squawk Codes Issue squawk codes at your discretion utilizing a series of 4 numbers no higher than 7. The first 2 numbers cannot be a 7. VFR aircraft departing Class Bravo airspace are to be issued a squawk code beginning with 12. Example:1203
