Seriously Spectacular Theatre

To celebrate this massively important year, were reaching out for something new, whilst recalling the best of GDIF past. For the first time ever, were presenting an indoor production, Crow, which will bring the spirit of the outdoors inside a building. You can also experience Prometheus Awakes, a groundbreaking spectacular which we hope will epitomise something of the 2012 Paralympic spirit. Downriver a contemporary fusion of sound, cars and choreography will take you to the wide open spaces of the Greenwich Peninsula with Motor Show, whilst our new Word on the Street season will bring cutting edge writers, directors and performers into the outdoors for the first time.
2

GDIF 2012 also takes stock of past Festival favourites. Well be bringing our most ambitious outdoor dance programme yet to Canary Wharf; parading along Roman Road with Sarrugas larger than life insects; and the Greenwich Fair will also be back with a vengeance! To cap it all off, for those with long memories (as well as first timers), Compagnie Malabar will round off this years festivities with spectacular circus, fireworks and a tidal wave of foam. Hugely successful at last years Festival, the Greenwich Fair is back, with a two day outpouring of street arts taking over Greenwich Town Centre. The original nineteenth century Greenwich Fair was an uproarious feast of sideshows, dancing booths, travelling menageries and gruesome melodramas. Much loved by Dickens, it was eventually banned because it was too unruly, but last year GDIF boldly revived it as a showcase for the best of British and international outdoor arts. So roll up and view a show in a giant pig, glimpse a flying grand piano, get lost in a Catalan labyrinth or have your tea leaves read!

The Greenwich Festivals

GDIF is delighted to be working with the Royal Borough of Greenwich as part of The Greenwich Festivals, promoting a range of high quality festivals and cultural events across the borough celebrating the cultural vibrancy of Greenwich. In addition to GDIF, forthcoming events include: Greenwich Dance, Greenwich World Cultural Festival, Parksfest and the Peninsula Festival - a series of fantastic music concerts and big screens showing live coverage of the 2012 Olympic and Paralymic Games. It will also be bringing London its first city beach, due to open in June.
Further information can be found at: www.royalgreenwich.gov.uk/festivals
Protein Dance Picnic (Part of Greenwich World Cultural Festival)

Catalan Culture
GDIF 2012 is delighted to present work by leading Catalan companies, including the world premiere of Prometheus Awakes by La Fura dels Baus (with Graeae); Sarruga, whose unique style grows out of the natural world; Circ Panics breathtaking theatre; and Itinerarias maze. You dont have to go to Barcelona to see the best of Catalan outdoor arts - thanks to the Institut Ramon Llull, which promotes Catalan Language and Culture abroad and supports the mobility of the artists and Catalan! Arts who are supporting professional networking meetings showcasing outstanding Catalan performers.

Without Walls
GDIF is a founder member of Without Walls, a consortium of eight of the countrys leading outdoor arts festivals. Thanks to investment by Arts Council England, GDIF is proud to present a platform of exciting new outdoor work by British artists under the Without Walls banner.

Greenwich Fair Voices

Sat 23 - Sun 24 June, 1pm - 6pm
Information Point:

Support your Festival !!

GDIF prides itself on delivering the best of outdoor arts. Over 80,000 people came last year but keeping the Festival free is a major fundraising challenge and so were asking you to help. We are asking you to support us by giving 1 a month to help keep GDIF events free and accessible. Just a small donation of 12 from a tiny fraction of our audience would enable us to present three companies at next years Greenwich Fair! Please support GDIF now

Greenwich Market, SE10ket

Greenwich Fair Voices takes its inspiration from the rambunctious Greenwich Fair of the 1830s. Map toting volunteers will supply you with free noses and much more - they have researched this uproarious event, home to travelling menageries, dancing booths, puppet shows and melodramatic theatrical performances and are primed to tell stories about the people of Greenwich Fair and the entertainments they enjoyed when it was a Londoners most outrageous holiday destination. Find out more at festival.org, asking a volunteer or visiting our stall in Greenwich Market.
Presented by MSL Projects With thanks to Horatio Blood. Map courtesy of Warwick Leadlay Gallery, Nelson Arcade, Greenwich 60
