Activities Abroad
Archaeological endeavours of the Survey extended beyond the frontiers of the sub-continent and have excelled in all its expeditions abroad. Oceans began with The Expeditions Abroad Visit of the REM Wheeler who visited Afghanistan sometime in 1946. After a decade, TN Ramachandran and YD Sharma visited Afghanistan between May-July, 1956 in order to explore and investigate the art traditions, epigraphical records and archaeological remains. During the Survey, A NUMBER of Sites were visited and the Antiquarian remains Housed in museums were also extensively studied. The conservation and Restoration of Buddha at Bamyain, Khwaj Parsa's Mosque at Balkh and extensive Repairs to the shrine of Sufi Saint Khwaja Abu Naser under R . Sen Gupta and BB Lal and one of their colleagues was the Survey of the Important Endeavours. BK Thapar and his Team visited region in Farah Afghanistan in 1975. They Explored, Kafir Qila, Qila Faridan Area along the River Arghandabo. Indonesia Delegation LED by NP Chakravarti A and C. Sivaramamurti Borbodur and it was visited at the famous Monument Documented extensively. Egypt In 1961-62, BB Lal and his Team visited Egypt to investigate the prehistoric archeology in Nubia. They discovered middle and late stone age tools in the terraces of the river Nile near Afyeh. The Team also Afyeh and cemetery excavated at A FEW Sites of C-group which had as many as one hundred people-Nine Graves. Nepal Two Expeditions, one under another by RVJoshi and D. Mitra were sent to Nepal in 1961-62. Besides discovering many sites in Bhairawa and Taulihawa districts, the mission also excavated Kudan and Tilaurakot. Cambodia The conservation of Ankorwat in Cambodia is perhaps one of the most Outstanding Projects of the foreign countries in the Survey. R. Sen Gupta, BN Tandon and R. Duttagupta, who visited the temple in October 1980, prepared a Status Report in order to assess the damages and defects noticed in the edifice. In 1982, KM Srivastava and his team, prepared a Project Report and carried out an experiment on the conservation project. A fivemember team under MS Nagraja Rao visited Ankorwat and incorporating few observations in the report prepared earlier by Srivastava, prepared a comprehensive conservation report. Consequently, between 1986-1992 the missions lead by KP Gupta. BS Nayal, CL Suri and B. Narasimhaiah and have their Team Successfully completed the conservation and Restoration of the temple. Bahrain At the Request of the Government of Bahrain, A Thirteen-member Team headed by KM Srivastava, undertook excavation in the 1983rd. They excavated as many as seventy graves. Six Indus seals, Seal with A circular Steatite A Typical Indus Script Important finds were among the Others. Maldive Islands Under SAARC Technical Assistance Programme, Team A BP Boardikar investigated by LED Pre-Islamic remains in Maldives Islands. The exploration and SCIENTIFIC Clearance / Excavations at Small Scale Arjadu, Kudahuvaan and Kurumathi, Todd and atolls Nilandu Buddhist traits brought to Light. Bhutan 1987-88-89 Between Two missions were sent to Bhutan under the Leadership of N. Venkateswar and murals of Jayaramasundaram for the Preservation of Nekhang-Lhakhange, Mithragpe-Lhakhang of Zong and Do de Drak Monastries Tongza D CHEMICAL Preservation of and for the murals. Angola Armed Force Central Museum in The Fortress of Sao Miguel in Luanda, the Capital city of Angola, was restored and reorganized. Between 1988-89, the Indian team first led by DK Sinha and later by M. Exhibits in the Pre-history re-arranged Khatun and Portuguese Gallery; The Chapel; Comrade Agostinho Neto Gallery and Gallery Struggle for Independence. Vietnam Dr.. KT Narasimhan and Shri MM Kanade which are inspected in the Monuments of Vietnam A Project Report Submitted for A Dilapidated Condition and conservation measures. Myanmar Dr.. SVP Halakatti the Monuments of Myanmar and have inspected and Shri AH Ahmed A Detailed Report Submitted measures for conservation. Besides, under the Cultural Exchange Programme and experts of the ASI are regularly Visiting Scholars Abroad countries.
