In todays society within the United States a womens status is reaching equilibrium as a mans. Women are not viewed as beneath a man, or above a man, they are pretty much equal as far as education, career, and legal matters are concerned. Depending upon who you ask, some may say a womens role is at home with the children, not working. Although some would agree that men and women should continue to be treated equal. What are some examples of concepts or constructions of masculinity and femininity that you see in society and in media? To be a man or women in the 20th century society is not just about ones biological traits that individual possesses. No, it goes deeper than that, it is defined by how individuals are suppose to act, behave, or socialize within society as a whole. All these things were socially constructed to each of us at a very young age. This construction begins with what color clothes our parents dress us with as a baby (boys Blue, and Girls, - Pink) to show either masculinity or femininity. Then from their it goes to the types of toys we had as a child, such as small cars or trucks for boys, and small cooking sets for the girls. Showing that the boys will either drive or work upon a vehical at some point, and a girl will do the cooking and so on and so forth. Than from here it goes to various jobs women and men will have as they are adults. There are many examples of concepts or constructions of masculinity and femininity that one will see within society and in the media. One being jobs. Men are normally employeed by their brains, skills, or strength such as construction jobs, doctors, judges, firefighters and things of that sort.
