Installation 1. Make sure the ignition key is in OFF position. 2. Remove both left and right fuel tank covers. 3. Remove the turn signal lamp assembly from the fuel tank cover. Remove the lamp socket. 4. Cut the turn signal lamp wires (see picture #1).

Picture #1

5. Cut two pieces of 3.5 mm heat shrink tube and put them in the wires you just cut. 6. Peel off 510 mm of the insulation from the end of the wires. Pick up the signal input wires and solder them to the lamp wires while reconnecting previously cut wires. For signal input wires, red/white is for the left hand side and red/black is for the right hand side. Note: Polarity is very critical. The black lamp wire with a white stripe is the negative (-) lead, connect the white (on the left hand side, black on the right hand side) signal input wire with it. Connect the red signal input wire with the other lamp wire (+). 7. Use hot air gun with heat shrink tubes and secure the signal input wires with cable ties. See picture #2. Repeat steps 37 to process both sides.

Picture #2

8. Pick up a turn signal lamp assembly and a 5 mm drill. Make seven holes for the LEDs. See picture #3. Be careful not to drill the holes too deep and damage the clear plastic part. Remove any drilling debris inside the lamp assembly e.g. with pressurized air. Process both sides.

9. Pick up the seven LEDs for the left hand side with pre-soldered wires (white). Twist the pairs if you want. By doing that theyre much easier to handle and they will definitely look more professional. Note: There will be high frequency (28.6 kHz) signals on the LED wires. They may or may not interfere with analog on board audio systems if you have some installed (Autocom etc.). Ive not been reported such interference so far but be warned. By twisting the LED wires into twisted pairs the chance to meet interference is even lower. Anyway, you should avoid installing the LED wires alongside with any audio cables you may have on your bike. 10. Install the seven LEDs to the holes you just drilled. Process both sides. Remember, white wires are for left hand side and black wires for right hand side. It may be a good idea to secure the LEDs with a drop of super glue, epoxy, silicone, etc. Note: The order of the LEDs is critical. The foremost (i.e. nearest to the lamp) is purple, then green, blue, brown, orange, yellow and grey. See pictures #4 and #5.

12. Cut about 30-40 cm (for the left hand side, 80-90 cm for the right hand side) of nylon tube and put it around the LED wires. Cut about 30 mm of 15 mm heat shrink tube and finish the end of the nylon tube with hot air gun. See picture #6.

Picture #7

13. Use a 3 mm drill and make two holes to secure the cable with a cable tie. See pictures #8 and #9. Repeat steps 1113 to process both sides.

Now you should have both sides almost ready. See picture #10. They still need the connectors, but before that you must install the main unit.

14. Cut the Dual Lock fastener (VELCRO) in half and use it to mount the main unit underneath the left fuel tank cover. See picture #11 for a recommended location.

Picture #11

15. Pick up the power supply wires (the thick ones). Solder or use a special terminal crimping tool to attach the terminals to the wires. Then insert the terminals into the connector. See picture #12. Note: Consult your local hardware store about the terminal crimping tool for HARWIN type connectors. Even if you use the tool it may still be a good idea to solder the terminals to ensure proper contacts between wires and terminals.

16. Plug in the power supply connector to the main unit (see picture #15 for where) and route the power supply cable to the rear part of the bike. Secure the cable with cable ties. Warning: The Indicator Mod is protected against over voltage and incorrect polarity but in some circumstances they may still damage the main unit or even your bike. Always double check the polarity.

17. Route the black wire directly to your bikes battery and connect it to the negative (-) terminal. Its up to you if you want to use a switched or non-switched power input for the Indicator Mod. Switched power input has some significant advantages. a. The bike will not run out of battery (at least because of this product) b. You will see the startup sequence every time you switch ignition key to ON position Anyway, there are some disadvantages as well. These will apply only while ignition key is in OFF position. a. The Indicator Mod will NOT flash the LEDs with bikes emergency lights b. The Indicator Mod will NOT flash the LEDs with motorcycle alarm systems you may have installed The choice is yours. However, you should use a fuse (included) and a power ON/OFF switch is highly recommended (not included). Both of them should be connected to the red power supply wire (+). You can take the switched power e.g. from the tail light. Using a relay is recommended thought not necessary since the Indicator Mod consumes power very marginally. 18. Pick up the left turn signal lamp assembly you prepared earlier. Measure the needed cable length and cut the wires to equal length. Cut the nylon tube if necessary. Cut about 30 mm of 15 mm heat shrink tube and slip it around the nylon tube. Do NOT shrink it yet. The terminals are much easier to connect this way. 19. Solder or use a terminal crimping tool to attach the terminals to the wires. Then insert the terminals into the connectors as shown in picture #13. Note: The order and polarities of the wires are critical so take a good look at picture #13. The wires go in pairs and the topmost pair is red/white, then grey/white, yellow/white, orange/white, brown/white, blue/white, green/white and purple/white while white wire is always behind colored one.

Picture #13

20. Move the heat shrink tube to the end of the nylon tube and shrink it with hot air gun. Be careful not to damage the nylon tube or the connectors with heat (as I did). See picture #14. Repeat steps 18-20 to process the right hand side respectively, only with longer, black wires.

21. If youre planning not to install the rear LEDs, just move on straight to step 22. Get a pair of SUZUKI GSR600 rear turn signal lamp assemblies from your local SUZUKI dealer (part# SU00014518 & SU00014519). They will cost about 75 EUR each. There are places for three LEDs on each. The procedure is fairly similar to the front LEDs, you just have to solder the wires to the LEDs. They were left unsoldered to make it easier to install the wires to the lamp assemblies. Theres very little room there so you might want to install the wires first. LEDs have two terminals, the short one is the negative cathode (-) and the long one is the positive anode (+). Solder white/black wires to negative terminals and colored wires to positive terminals. Cover the joints with 2.0 mm heat shrink tube. Again, white wires are for the left hand side and black wires for the right hand side. Purple is the foremost (i.e. closest to front end of the bike), then green and blue being closest to the tail of the bike. Rear LEDs will share their connector, which will go between front LED connectors on the main unit. See picture #15. 22. Install the turn signal lamp assemblies back to the fuel tank covers. 23. Install the right hand side fuel tank cover first. Slip the cable with connectors to the main unit alongside with the throttle cables. Plug in the connectors right next to the power supply connector and secure the cable with cable ties. See pictures #15 and #11. Note: Do not forget to reconnect the original turn signal connector.

24. You can now test the system and make some adjustments if necessary, even though the left hand side LEDs are still disconnected. There are three trimmers you can adjust. The full scale of each of them is 10 full rounds. You will hear a faint clicking sound if youve reached the lower or upper limit. See picture #16 for the trimmer locations (the blue boxes with a screw on top). a. The trimmer on the top is the DELAY trimmer. It allows you to adjust how long the system waits before the first LED lights up after the turn signal lamp turns OFF (while turn or emergency signal is ON). Turn the trimmer clockwise to increase the delay or counterclockwise to decrease the delay. Its on its minimum by default. b. The middle trimmer is the SPEED1 trimmer. It allows you to adjust the speed of the turn signal sequence. Turn the trimmer clockwise to increase the speed or counterclockwise to decrease the speed. c. The trimmer on the bottom is the SPEED2 trimmer. It allows you to adjust the speed of the startup sequence. Turn the trimmer clockwise to increase the speed or counterclockwise to decrease the speed. Note: Adjusting SPEED1 will affect to the speed of the startup sequence as well. However, adjusting SPEED2 will not change the speed of the turn signal sequence. Note: It may be a good idea to secure the trimmers so that they wont self-adjust because of vibration. Use a tiny drop of paint, nail polish, etc. to lock each trimmer to its desired position.

25. Close the cover of the main unit and secure it with the screw. Note: Even though the main unit is fairly well protected against water due to its location underneath the fuel tank cover, it might still be a good idea to make it more water resistant with e.g. silicone or duct tape. 26. Finally plug in the left hand side LED connectors as shown in picture #15 and install the left hand side fuel tank cover. Note: Do not forget to reconnect the original turn signal connector. 27. All done. Happy flashing!
