P2 REV 01 SEQ 001

SYDNEY (YSSY) TO MELBOURNE (YMML) AUSTRALIA

Tutorial Flight for the Phoenix Simulation Software Airbus A330-200 This tutorial replicates a Qantas A330-200 flight from Sydney to Melbourne. Qantas generally use their A330s on longer trans-continental domestic routes but they did operate the aircraft on several shorter routes immediately after its introduction into regular service, and occasionally use A330s on domestic short haul routes in place of their usual B737-800 or B767-300 aircraft during peak travel periods. This tutorial assumes you have had some practice at the basics of operating the PSS A330-200. If not, it is recommended that you complete the Toronto Pearson (CYYZ ) to Chicago O' Hare (KORD) tutorial available at the PSS website. This tutorial starts with the engines running. If you have the panel configuration set up for Start with a Cold and Dark Cockpit open the Panel Configuration Utility and uncheck this option, or if you prefer you can go through the whole startup procedure as per the CYYZ-KORD tutorial. Some things you will learn in this tutorial In addition to providing an opportunity to confirm the basic skills of operating the Airbus A330 family of aircraft, building on the techniques you learnt in the Toronto to Chicago tutorial flight, this tutorial will take you through: Setting up a flight using a Standard Instrument Departure (SID) and a Standard Arrival Route (STAR) Using the Place/Bearing/Distance method of creating a user defined waypoint Using the Flight Path Angle (FPA) function to achieve the vertical navigation requirements of a SID Creating, exiting and resuming a Hold at a waypoint Using the communication radios and the FS2004 ATIS function to obtain critical weather values to set up the Approach phase

Enjoy the flight! John Cantwell Canberra, Australia john@fsadventures.net

P4 REV 01 SEQ 001

Start FS2004 Select the Airbus A330-200 livery of your choice (I flew using the Qantas livery) Make these selections: Location YSSY Runway 34R NOTE If you prefer to taxi from the terminal select one of the medium gates as the start location. I have skipped the taxi segment in this tutorial in the interest of saving time. Time of day Day 11:00 Weather Set any weather you like, although a Clear Skies or Fair Weather theme will allow you to see the sights a little better. I used real-world weather for Sydney when I set up this flight, and at that time (late morning in the Australian Spring) the Sydney ATIS was reporting the following information: Sydney Automated Weather Information Victor:
APCH: EXP ILS APCH THEN INDEPENDENT VISUAL APCH RWY: 34L AND R FOR ARRS AND DEPS OPR INFO: PARL RWY OPS IN PROGRESS, INDEPENDENT DEPARTURES IN PROGRESS WND: 280/08 VIS: GT 10KM CLD: SCT 2500 TMP: 21 QNH: 1019

You can replicate this weather in FS2004 if you wish. In summary, the ATIS is telling us that both runways 34L and 34R are in operation for arriving and departing traffic, weve got winds from 280 degrees at 8 knots, visibility is greater than 10 kilometers, and there are scattered cumulous clouds at 2500 feet. The current temperature is 21C (70F) with a barometric pressure (QNH) of 1019 hectopascals. Note that Australia uses hectopascals [hPa] instead of inches of mercury [inches Hg] 1019 hectopascals equals 30.10 inches Hg. Regardless of the weather you set, well assume that ATC assigns us to 34R even if there is some crosswind. Fuel Settings set Display fuel as weight then set both tanks to 23% Click FLY NOW!

NOTE Because the latest AIRAC NAVDATA doesnt include (at the time of writing this) the real-world transitions that connect this SID to an airway, well improvise by using the PLACE/BEARING/DISTANCE method, an MCDU function you may not have encountered before. Well recreate the WOLLONGONG transition. Enter MARUB/144/5 NOTE This creates a user defined waypoint using the PLACE/BEARING/DISTANCE method, in this case: MARUB (place) 144 degrees (bearing) 5 nautical miles (distance), which means a new waypoint 5 miles from MARUB on a heading of 144 degrees. Weve set this up to comply with the track described in the published MARUB3 SID, WOLLONGONG transition. Press the LSK below MARUB to insert the new waypoint This will appear as PDB01 in the flight plan Select the right LSK opposite the PDB01 waypoint to access the Vertical Revision page Enter 100 and press LSK3R to assign FL 100 (10,000 ft) as ALT CSTR for PDB01 Press RETURN LSK6L NOTE This altitude constraint (ALT CSTR) ensures we are above 10,000 ft before we turn to pass south of Sydney airport. This would be useful if, for some reason, we needed to go direct to this waypoint during our departure. However, during departure we will use the Flight Path Angle function to modify our vertical navigation to this waypoint. This will be explained later in the tutorial.

Enter WOL (the first waypoint on the Q38 high level airway) Press the LSK below PDB01 to insert WOL Select the WOL NDB from the list of WOL waypoints in the navigation database Press the LSK next to WOL to open the Lateral Revision page Enter Q38/TAREX Click on VIA/GO TO LSK2R Press INSERT

TAKEOFF

P13 REV 01 SEQ 001

Take Off We are cleared for takeoff, MARUB3 departure, with an initial clearance to 10,000 feet. You can do the take off either in the cockpit or from the spot view (my preferred method). If you jump to the spot view, press SHIFT+6, SHIFT+7 and SHIFT+8 to open the ECAM panel so you can monitor the systems during takeoff. Increase throttle to 50 percent, stabilize the engines Press . (period) to release the parking brake, confirm in right hand ECAM display Press numpad + twice to FLX power, confirm in right hand ECAM display Note T.O. INHIBIT in right hand ECAM display Apply slight forward pressure on the yoke/joystick until 80 knots then centralize the controls. Rotate at VR of 167 knots as shown on the airspeed tape (Note: this might not agree with the VR calculated during MCDU setup a minor bug) Pitch up to 10-15 degrees until aircraft lifts off Once clear of the ground and climbing, pull back on the control to follow the commanded FD pitch indicator Press G to raise the gear as soon as the aircraft is positively climbing Keep following the FD pitch indicator Press F6 twice to select flaps CONFIG 1 as the airspeed passes the F marker on the airspeed tape of the Primary Flight Display (PFD). This will happen very quickly after takeoff. On passing 500 ft Press Z to activate the autopilot (or press AP1 on the FCU if you are inside the cockpit) The aircraft will start a right turn to follow the MARUB3 departure. As aircraft climbs through 1500 feet Monitor the PFD; when LVR CLB flashes press - (minus) on the keypad once for climb thrust mode Passing S on the airspeed tape set flaps to CONFIG 0

CLIMB / CRUISE

P14 REV 01 SEQ 001

NOTE The aircraft will turn right to intercept the 075 radial from the Sydney VOR (you dont need to do anything to make this happen) then turn left to track the radial to the MARUB waypoint (15 miles from SY). Speed should stabilize at 250 knots. This would be a good time to jump back to the cockpit if you are in Spot view. While thats happening, well set up a Flight Path Angle to take us to 10,000 in accordance with the real-world WOLLONGONG transition for the MARUB3 SID. You need to perform the next few actions fairly quickly Immediately, press the HDG-TRK V/S-FPA button in the center of the Flight Control Unit (its the dark button above the AP1 and AP2 buttons) The FCU window will change to show FPA on the right hand side Pull (right click) the V/S-FPA knob on the right side of the FCU The FCU window will display the current Flight Path Angle in degrees, most likely with a value somewhere in the range +4.50 to +12.00 (the value isnt important) Turn the V/S-FPA knob (clicking on either side) to set a FPA of +3.60 degrees The PFD will read
SPEED | FPA +3.60 | | ALT | | NAV | AP1 | 1FD2 | A/THR

NOTE This Flight Path Angle will cause the aircraft to climb at 3.6 degrees, giving us a vertical speed of approximately 1800 fpm. The autopilot will turn the aircraft south at MARUB towards the PBD01 waypoint on the heading of 144 degrees that we set up using the place/bearing/distance function. OK, the panic is over relax Monitor ROSE VOR display to confirm interception of the 075 radial Once the aircraft intercepts the 075 radial and is heading for MARUB, rotate EFIS display knob back to ARC mode. Leave the display range at 20.

P16 REV 01 SEQ 001

Climb / Cruise The aircraft will climb towards the WOL waypoint and the cruise altitude of 32,000 feet. NOTE Jump to Spot view (press Shift+S). Down to the right of the aircraft you can see the runways of Sydney airport jutting out into Botany Bay as you track back over the towards the coast. The blue waters of the Pacific Ocean sparkle below. You can stay outside and monitor the aircraft systems by pressing SHIFT+6, SHIFT+7 and SHIFT+8 to open the ECAM panels. Passing WOL Set ADF/VOR selector 2 to VOR (fully right) to return VOR2 to auto-tune This leg to RUMIE (approximately 180 miles) will take about 20 minutes. This would be a good time to grab a coffee or whatever takes your fancy. NOTE Optional HOLD Section The next section deals with setting up and exiting a HOLD. The procedure will add about 8 minutes to the flight. It is a very simple procedure so you could just read this section and not actually do it, if you prefer not to annoy your passengers by orbiting at 32,000 feet. If that is the case, skip to the section Passing RUMIE on the next page. 10 miles short of RUMIE ATC MESSAGE Qantas 907, hold at RUMIE, anticipate one orbit. Select INSERT LSK6R If you look at the F-PLAN page of the MCDU youll see that the plan has changed to read RUMIE then HOLD R then RUMIE again, then the rest of the flight plan. At RUMIE the autopilot will turn the aircraft right to start the holding pattern. The LSK to the right of HOLD now reads IMM EXIT (Immediate Exit) in orange letters. When you wish to exit the hold press this LSK the aircraft will complete the current orbit and the hold will disappear from the flight plan once you cross RUMIE again. When you push the LSK next to IMM EXIT it changes to RESUME HOLD allowing you to resume the hold if required. For this tutorial, well just do one orbit. As the aircraft turns back towards RUMIE press the LSK on the right to exit the hold. Dont worry if nothing special happens the aircraft will just complete the orbit sedately and resume the rest of the flight plan. Once you cross RUMIE the HOLD waypoint disappears and the flight plan will continue. Passing RUMIE Open the pedestal so we can set a new radio frequency On the Radio management Panel press VHF1 to confirm that the COM1 radio is selected In the Standby window enter the YMML ATIS frequency which is 132.70 Press the Swap button (the double headed arrow) to push the new freq into the Active window NOTE We wont immediately be able to receive the Melbourne ATIS at this distance but setting the frequency now means the ATIS will come in as soon as we are in range.
