he first reading forms part of Moses farewell discourse, a call to the people to return to God. It is not a legalistic summons; rather, it is an appeal to heart and soul. It outlines a command that is not impossible to follow, or too difficult to undertake, or too expensive. Look into your hearts, says Moses; there you will find what to do. Paul sees Jesus Christ as the image of God, the agent of creation and preservation. We sense, in his words, things profound: dominions or principalities or powers. But in the midst of that, Paul keeps his attention on Jesus Christ, head of the church. It is in Christ that we find fullness and reconciliationin the blood of the cross. Lukes Gospel illustrates the double commandment of love with the story of the Good Samaritan. The story is a radical one, for it comes to focus on the question of who my neighbor is. That neighbor is not identified with any group, but rather by the scope of our compassion.

Respect Life
The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us, Conscience is a judgment of reason whereby the human person recognizes the moral quality of a concrete act that he is going to perform, is in the process of performing or has already completed. In all he says and does, man is obliged to follow faithfully what he knows to be just and right (n. 1778). From this definition it emerges that the moral conscience, to be able to judge human conduct rightly, above all must be based on the solid foundation of truth, that is, it must be enlightened to know the true value of actions and the solid criteria for evaluation. Therefore, it must be able to distinguish good from evil, even where the social environment, pluralistic culture and superimposed interests do not help it do so.

The Parish Pastoral Council will be sponsoring another rummage sale in October. Please save your unneeded but still usable clothes and household items for this event. This is a great way to help your neighbors and parish. Thank you.

St. Francis Borgia Religious Education Program

The St. Francis Borgia Religious Education Program is accepting Registration for the 2013-2014 school year on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in the RE Office, Schoolroom 101 or by appointment. The tuition is $250 for 1 child and $300 for 2 or more children per family plus a $50 registration fee per child which covers books and supplies. The registration fee after August 1, 2013, will increase to $75 per child. Registration forms are available in the RE Office, Rectory and in the church. The registration form/payment may be mailed, brought to the Religious Education or Rectory Office, may be mailed or put in the Sunday Mass collection. Payment may be made in full upon registration or in two installments with the first semester due September 15, 2013 and the second semester due January 15, 2014.First day of class and Parents Open House for Grades 6-8 will be on Tuesday, September 3, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. and for Grades 1-5 on Saturday, September 7, from 9:00-10:30 a.m. New registrants must provide a Baptismal certificate at the time of registration.
