Another strong European trend this year is the return of the drainboard sink. These sinks extend your working space with an integrated drainboard that allows you to defrost, drain or prepare foods on a hygienic surface and protect your countertop. BLANCO introduces new STEELART RADIUS 10 drainboards and new SILGRANIT drainboard models this year. Scratch-proof SILGRANIT drainboards can also be used to slice or chop foods. The generous size and bowl depth of the CASCADE sink easily accommodates large pans or trays while an innovative low-profile rim inside the bowl creates a ridge against which cutting boards, plates, pans or other items can be propped while draining. Extra-large with sink-within-a-sink option
The GEMMA features an extra large single bowl and optional stainless steel accessories that are available separately or as a package with the GEMMA PLUS option. The optional rinsing bowl with drain stopper creates a mini-sink within the larger sink, for washing small items. The versatile rinsing bowl and colander can fit into either side of the GEMMA sink bowl and are stackable for easy storage. The sink's spacious ledge holds the faucet with room for optional accessories e.g., soap dispenser, side spray or pop-up mechanical strainer control (see BLANCO accessories). The GEMMA is an exclusive BLANCO design, manufactured in Germany.

The best time to select a sink and faucet

If replacing an existing sink, there will be limitations based on the existing sink cutout and cabinet space on what can be selected. The ideal time to select a sink is before the start of any kitchen renovationbefore layout design, counter or cabinet selection. Designers often place the sink first and design the rest of the kitchen layout from there. This ensures that the completed kitchen has the optimal workstation and functionalitywith enough room and the right sink and faucet to suit your needs. As faucets are increasingly becoming one of the key design elements in the kitchen, this pre-planning will ensure that there are plenty of options for selecting a faucet that will fit and suit the layout.
Counter and cabinet size guidelines

When replacing a sink, the sink choice is restricted by the size of the cabinet and countertop. You can either choose a sink that fits into the existing sink cutout or if your sink base cabinet allows, expand the cutout by cutting away additional countertop material and select a larger sink. Measuring correctly will help save time. Measure the cabinet size under the existing sink or where the new sink will go. Measure from gable to gable (left to right) See Diagram A. Be sure to measure from outside edge to outside edge. This is the MINIMUM CABINET SIZE and this size is noted next to each sink model in the BLANCO catalogue. Most kitchen cabinets are standard 24" measurement front to back. The width (front to back measurement) of the sink that can be used is determined by this measurement and whether or not the counter top has a backsplash. See diagrams B and C. For Drop-in: If the countertop has a backsplash, a sink with front to back depth of up to 20 12" will fit. See Diagram B. If the countertop has no backsplash and the cabinet is of standard size, a sink that measures up to 22" deep (front to back) will fit. See Diagram C. For Undermount: Consult your installer. These measurements are important to ensure that enough space is allocated for fixtures and backsplash material behind the sink.

Bowl design and functionality

BLANCO bowl design offers maximum functionality and aesthetics. Tight radius corners give more usable bowl capacity while offering an ultra-contemporary look. Rear-positioned drains maximize usable cabinet space under the sink. A flat sink bottom allows glassware and goblets to stand up preventing accidental breakage. And, deeper bowls combined with tight radius corners, allow large pots and even frying pans to sit flat in the sink, making cleanup easier. The broad range of BLANCO sink bowl choices within any one design, allows you to select a perfectly matching secondary sink for use in an island. These choices include a wide range of double bowl options and small and large single bowl designs. For many kitchens, a large single bowl may be ideal as a primary sink, particularly when most small items are washed in the dishwasher and the sink is used primarily for large pots, cookie sheets and pans.

Choice of material
In choosing a material you should keep in mind that the kitchen sink is a heavy-duty utensil. It will show signs of wear after a time, but should be able to withstand the rigors of daily use for a very long time. Different materials will wear in different ways. BLANCO uses only premium materials and offers a lifetime limited warranty on all its kitchen sinks, regardless of the material. Accessories such as sink grids are ideal to protect the bottom surface of the sink. Owners should observe care instructions and use only recommended cleaning products. (See Sink Care and Maintenance on page 132).
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel continues to be the most common material for kitchen sinks, but not all stainless steel sinks are created equal. Chrome-nickel content is an important consideration. Chrome increases hardness and wear resistance. Nickel increases strength and improves shock resistance. Most BLANCO sinks are 18% chrome and 10% nickel (18/10), which is the preferred content for high-end stainless steel sinks. 18/10 stainless steel is completely hygienic, will not rust and will maintain its appearance much longer than lesser grade steel. The gauge (thickness) of the steel is also an important feature. Note: Gauge is an inverse measurement20 gauge is thinner than 18 gauge. A thicker gauge stainless steel sink will maintain water temperature longer and has more sound deadening qualities. Thicker gauge stainless steel sinks are generally more expensive.
SILGRANIT
There are a wide range of coloured sinks available today, however not all share the heat and scratch resistance of SILGRANIT. There are also both soft composites and hard composites available. These come in a variety of finishes, some having only surface colour, some coloured all the way through. Many soft composites have a dull finish. These soft composites are usually more porous and have a low heat rating (a hot pot could burn the surface). Soft composites are usually less expensive but also tend to show signs of wear soon after being installed. BLANCO SILGRANIT is a rock-hard composite material, formed using 80% pure granite. Coloured all the way through, SILGRANIT is extremely scratch and chip resistant and has a heat rating of up to 280 Celsius. Most BLANCO SILGRANIT sinks are equipped with additional knock-out holes for faucet fixtures and accessories. These holes are marked on the sink deck with removable stickers and must be punched prior to installing the sink.

Considerations when undermounting a sink

Undermounted sinks bring a touch of refinement to any kitchen. A pleasure to own, especially at clean-up time, their design allows crumbs to be easily swept into the bowl. Truly a clean design. Three undermount installation options are possible depending on individual preference. These options apply to both stainless steel undermounts and SILGRANIT. Note that BLANCO templates for most undermount sinks provide a 14 inch reveal around the bowl (i.e. only 1/4 inch of the sink rim is revealed). Check the instructions on the template that comes with your BLANCO sink to see the reveal measurement allotted by that template. Sink templates are supplied only as a guide. The physical use of the sink will ensure a more accurate cutout. Finally, ensure that enough space is left behind the sink for any fixtures that may be requiredincluding faucet and other accessories.
Undermount options: Partial reveal of the sink rim: The amount of reveal is flexiblemore or less depending on the look that is desired! Deciding on your preferred look must be done prior to cutout of countertop.
Countertop flush with sink bowls: No reveal or very little of the sink rim is visible.
Countertop slightly overhanging the bowls: No sink rim is visible as it is hidden under the counter edge.
Considerations when installing a MicroEdge sink

The understated beauty and sleek elegance of a flushmount look offers refined sophistication to any kitchen dcor. While true flushmount installation requires expensive and challenging counter cutting techniques as well as experienced and highly skilled installers to achieve an exacting flushmount result, MicroEdge overcomes these risks, creating the perfect edge. MicroEdge sinks also offer unprecendented versatility. They can be installed flushmounted to the counter if preferred and where experienced installers are available, or can sit on top of the counter similar to a traditional topmount style. A topmount installation allows the sink to be installed on virtually any countertop material and with none of the risks of flushmount fabrication efforts. From granite and quartz to laminates and many other materials, the MicroEdge is simple to install.
MicroEdge options: Flushmount installation: A flushmounted sink sits in a recessed area cut out of the counter and requires special tools and skills to install. Consult a stone specialist before specifying.
Topmount installation: MicroEdge creates the illusion of a flushmount sink installation without the use of complex fabrication methods.
BLANCO FLOW
The MicroEdge FLOW requires a 24" sink base cabinet, however, installation will require notching the gables of cabinets on either side of the sink base to accommodate the drainer boards and clamping system under the sink. Please consult your cabinet manufacturer and/or cabinet installer for limitations.

CARING FOR YOUR NEW BLANCO SINK
A kitchen sink is a heavy-duty utensil and may show traces of wear over time. Regular cleaning to remove dirt is the best form of maintenance for your sink and will extend its life and beauty. Observe this guide to the use and care of your stainless steel or SILGRANIT sinks for best results.
General sink care

Keep the sink dry. Regularly rinse and towel dry your sink with a soft, dry cloth when not in use to keep it dry. This will prevent surface deposits and water spots caused by lime in the water. Use non-abrasive cleansers. BLANCOCLEAN is a combined cleaner and polish and will help maintain the original lustre of the sink, however there are other non-abrasive liquid cream cleaners that can be used. Do not use strong abrasive cleansers or cleansers that contain chlorine (usually sodium hypochlorite) or hydrochloric acid, steel wool or metal scrub pads these will scratch and dull the surface of the sink. Rinse away cleansers after use and wipe the sink dry again to prevent water spots from forming. Do not pour paint into your sink. The chemicals in acrylic paint will react with SILGRANIT sinks if allowed to sit over 24 hours and will produce permanent marks. For latex-based paints, try removing any residue immediately using a paint remover manufactured by the same brand. Consult the paint remover recommendations before using on any sink. For all BLANCO sinks, we also recommend nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol or an acetone-based paint remover to eliminate paint residue. Use vinegar and water in a mild solution to remove any mineral deposits that may have built up. Follow the grain of the steel if using a stainless steel polish. When using a stainless steel polish, ensure that you read directions carefully. You should use a damp cloth and follow the grain of the steel when polishing. Rinse with water and buff with a soft, static-proof cloth for best results. For extra care, test on a small area first. Do not drop sharp objects into your sink and do not use your sink surface as a cutting board as this may scratch or damage the sink. Materials that are harder than stainless steel can scratch, including stone, diamond, glass, ceramic or abrasives. Use a sink bottom grid to protect your sink. BLANCO custom-sized stainless steel grids are available that fit inside the bottom of the sink bowls and protect the sink from scratches that could be caused by sharp utensils or other kitchen tools. Rust spots and stains can be removed with metal cleaners such as Flitz . Stainless steel does not rust, however rust stains may occur as a result of other materials coming in contact with the sink allowing iron particles to bond to the sink surface. Iron particles introduced by metal cookware, steel wool pads, etc. that react with water can deposit rust spots. Do not use rubber-coated mats as discoloration of the sink may occur after prolonged use. Similarly, any wet sponges or cleaning materials left on the sink for long periods could stain the sink surface.
Additional care tips for SILGRANIT sinks
Use liquid cleaners and rinse well after use, for daily care. Remember also to use sparingly. A BLANCOCLEAN product is available that is specially formulated for SILGRANIT sinks and will help maintain the original look and beauty of the sink. Avoid highly abrasive cleansers. However, a bleach-water solution (50/50) can be used on SILGRANIT. For stubborn food stains, pour the bleach solution onto a cloth and cover the stain. Allow the bleach to sit for at least 1/2 hour and then clean with a dish detergent and rinse off with water. Keep extremely hot pots away from the sink. BLANCO SILGRANIT sinks will withstand temperatures of up to 280C. However, modern pots can reach higher temperatures. Therefore, contact with extremely hot pots should be kept to a minimum.

Limited Lifetime Warranty: Stainless Steel and SILGRANIT Sinks

BLANCO CANADA INC. hereafter referred to as BLANCO, is pleased to offer a limited lifetime warranty with all BLANCO sinks used in normal domestic installations. BLANCO warrants its sinks to be free from all manufacturing defects in material and workmanship. BLANCO will repair or replace, at no charge, excluding labour, any sink supplied by BLANCO that is proven to be defective under normal use. An equivalent replacement will be issued to the original owner provided the defective sink was installed in accordance with BLANCO installation procedures, used and cleaned as recommended and not damaged due to abuse, misuse or negligence. Chips, scratches and stains are not deemed to be manufacturing defects. BLANCO will not be held liable for chips, scratches and stains that can occur under normal use over a period of time. Please refer to cleaning instructions to maintain your sink in its original appearance. BLANCO shall not be held liable under this warranty where the sink has been used in a non-domestic application, improperly installed, or damaged from the impact caused by a heavy object being dropped on the sink or from improper handling. BLANCO shall not be liable for any inconvenience or expense for material or labour related to the removal or replacement of a defective sink or for any loss or damage to any person or property whatsoever resulting from the defective sink. All transportation costs to and from the point of purchase will be the responsibility of the purchaser. Any sink returned must be in the original packaging and include all the accompanying accessories, parts and documentation. BLANCO reserves the right to inspect any sink reported to be defective prior to replacement of the sink. WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS Excluded are any accessories that accompany the sink (strainers, waste fittings, waste chutes etc.).
Limited Lifetime Warranty: Faucets

All faucets are thoroughly checked and tested in the factory. However, if the faucet has a manufacturing defect, BLANCO reserves the right to replace the damaged part or the entire faucet. BLANCO warrants its faucets to be free from manufacturing defects in material and workmanship; and the finish and ceramic disk cartridge to be free from manufacturing defects and workmanship, to the original consumer purchaser of the faucet from the original date of purchase for as long as the original consumer purchaser owns their home. The original dated sales receipt must be retained by the customer and is the only acceptable proof of purchase. Since 2007, our BLANCO Canada facility in Mississauga, Ontario has been bullfrogpowered.
Bullfrog Power is a leading provider of 100% green electricity. All of Bullfrogs power comes from clean, renewable sources like wind power and low-impact water power that displace polluting and carbon-intensive electricity sources like coal. Bullfrog sources power exclusively from generators that have received Environment Canadas Environmental Choice Program EcoLogoM certification. Supporting emission-free renewable power is a great way to reduce carbon footprint and help combat climate change and air pollution. Plus, Bullfrog Power uses our demand to initiate new renewable generation projects to ensure more of Canadas energy needs are met with clean, green power. Switching to 100% green electricity is just one of the changes weve made toward becoming greener. We have also implemented recycling practices in our facilities, and our manufacturing processes and facility feature state-ofthe-art technologies for air quality and waste management. As well, our stainless steel sinks are made from more than 90% recycled stainless steel and our SILGRANIT sinks are 80% natural granite. Most SILGRANIT sinks sold in Canada are manufactured in Canada. Our TORINO low-flow faucet has been designed for improved water conservation and is certified by the Environmental Choice Program, an Environment Canada Program.
We have also become more environmentally conscious in our marketing activities. The paper used to make this catalogue, as well as to produce other marketing literature and new point-of-purchase materials, carries the FSC-certification logo (Forest Stewardship Council). Purchase of FSC-certified paper and print products contributes to conservation, responsible management, and community level benefits for people near the forests that provide your paper. Just like other forest products, in order to use the FSC logo as an environmental claim on paper, the product must have flowed through the FSC chain-of-custody from the FSC-certified forest, to a paper manufacturer, merchant, and finally printer who have FSC chain-of-custody certification.
