Course overview
Course description
In this course, students will study English in the context of music. The goals are to expand the students existing musical knowledge in English and to develop their existing music skills, culminating in the opportunity to produce and execute a live or recorded performance at the end of the 12 weeks. The course is not meant for students who dont already know how to play an instrument. Module 3: Composition and Performance (4 March, 3 June, 18 November) In this module, students will study musical form and then, synthesizing the information from previous modules, compose and/or perform a piece of music. Linguistic focus: writing or speaking about the piece of music, the process of production, or the experience of performing. Week 1: General Musical Form Week 2: Song Form Week 3: Analysis of a score Week 4: Rehearsal and Presentation You will have a test every Monday. If you dont do well on the test, you need to study the material again! You will have homework most days. If you want more homework, talk to your teacher or the Director of Studies. You can also participate in up to 4 lessons (3 hours) of study outside of class at Kings (not at home or in your dorm room). This time could be spent rehearsing or composing. If your attendance is 90% or above at the end of your course, you will receive a certificate.
