RATIONALE OF THE STUDY


Mining Industry is one of the growing industry which contribute significantly (8%) in GDP of Indian Economy. Information is the blood of any organization. For effective utilization of resources MIS is must. In this global competitive scenario, mining industry must keep close look on their competitor & foreign company. With the advent of IT, management process have also changed & different software are being practiced in their industry. MIS can help researcher to gain inside look into information system. The report may help policy maker also.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY


To make the organization more structured. To develop an inventory of suggestion. To identify the problem areas & their suggested solutions. To incorporate the changes required in accordance with internal & external environment.

SCOPE
This study is conducted from Feb 2, 2007 till April 4, 2007 covering all MIS of SAIL.

LIMITATION
Secondary data may be outdated. Secondary data may not be reliable. Secondary data may not be accurate. In primary data, finding of the report cannot be generalized.

CHARACTERISTICS OF MIS
MIS is an integrative unit. MIS is a sub-system concept.

MIS enhances productivity. MIS is a feedback system. MIS is management directed. MIS transforms data into information.

OBJECTIVE OF MIS
To store & manage data efficiently from all functional area of business. To process the collected data & derive information out of them. To provide information for planning, organizing & controlling purpose. To speed up the execution of the results with the reliable data available. To smooth up the flow of data thro various level of organization.

Importance of mis
It helps in minimizing risk in decision making. It helps in preparing corporate results. It helps the HRD manager in finding out the various requirements of human resources. Ex: wages & salary, performance appraisal.

Limitations of mis

MIS is not a substitute for effective management.

The qualities of the output of MIS are basically governed by the quality of input & processes. MIS cant provide tailor made information packages suitable for purpose of every type of decision made by the executives.
