Task Outcome By the end of this task, student should be able to: 1. Explain laboratory safety rules and regulation during experiment. 2. Identify sources of measurement uncertainty and quantify measurement error. 3. Present methods and results technically in laboratory reports and summaries. Theory In the laboratory the chemist works with many potentially dangerous substances. Yet, with constant alertness, awareness of potential hazards, and a few commonsense precautions, laboratory operations can be carried out with a high degree of safety. Most of the responsibility for the personal safety of the laboratory worker rests on the worker himself. In the event of an accident resulting from his neglect of appropriate precautions or disregard of laboratory regulations he is in a poor position to collect damages for his own injuries, and may even find himself the target of civil or criminal action if his negligence results in injury to others. Worse, injuries sustained in laboratory accidents can result in permanent disability, disfigurement, blindness, or death a fact that far transcends legal considerations. The basic rule of safety in the laboratory is: be alert stay alert.

Task : Complied with the CLO no 1. Analyse critically the experimental data in relation to the theoretical aspect. (C4)

4.1

Work Procedure 1. State the safety precautions that should be practiced by a student when entering the engineering lab. 2. Data taken during the experiment is not equal to the value obtained by the theory. Why does this happen? 3. A related experiment found that the room temperature is 27 C. How do you explain this temperature with the environment?
