Disaster risk reduction (DRR) is one of the key priorities of Kazakhstan's 2030 long-term development strategy and public policy.

The European Commission's Humanitarian Aid department funds relief operation for victims of natural disasters and conflicts outside the European Union. Aid is channelled impartially, straight to the people in need, regardless of their race, ethnic group, religion, gender, age, nationality or political affiliation.

THE MINISTRY OF EMERGENCY SITUATIONS OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN IS THE CENTRAL IMPLEMENTING BODY IN CHARGE OF FORMULATING STATE POLICY IN THE SPHERE OF WARNING AND RESPONSE TO EMERGENCY SITUATIONS AND NATURAL OR MAN-MADE DISASTERS. THE MINISTRY OF EMERGENCY SITUATIONS OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN SUPPORTS INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AND WORKS WITH INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS AND CITIZENS FOR THE PREVENTION AND RESPONSE TO EMERGENCY SITUATIONS IN KAZAKHSTAN.

THE UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (UNDP) HELPS THE GOVERNMENTS OF MORE THAN 60 COUNTRIES TO IMPROVE READINESS TO RESPOND TO NATURAL DISASTERS AND REDUCING THE RISK OF OCCURRENCE. THE UNDP TRAINS PEOPLE AND RESCUE WORKERS, AND HELPS PLANNERS INTEGRATE RISK REDUCTION STRATEGIES INTO NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLANS.

THE UNDP SUPPORTS THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN IN REDUCING THE RISKS OF NATURAL DISASTERS. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS PROJECT, EFFORTS WILL BE FOCUSED ON EASTERN AND SOUTH-EASTERN KAZAKHSTAN, TWO AREAS AT HIGH RISK FOR NATURAL DISASTERS.

THE RED CRESCENT SOCIETY OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN WAS FOUNDED IN 1937 AS THE UNION OF THE RED CROSS AND RED CRESCENT SOCIETIES OF THE USSR. SINCE 1991 IT IS AN INDEPENDENT ORGANIZATION THAT ATTEMPTS TO PREVENT AND MITIGATE HUMAN SUFFERING AND IMPROVE THE SITUATIONS OF VULNERABLE GROUPS.

UNDP Project DIPECHO VII: COMMUNITY-BASED DISASTER RISK REDUCTION IN SOUTH-EAST AND EAST KAZAKHSTAN
The project DIPECHO VII: Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction in South-East and East Kazakhstan aims to showcase the community input and potential for DRR.The project will involve communities and cross-sectoral actors (water user organizations, pasture management organizations, local authorities and others) more firmly in DRR measures. By involving a wide audience a more comprehensive approach to DRR at multiple levels and across sectors will be achieved.

ACTIVITIES IN CITY SCHOOLS Organization of scientific research and information campaigns, dissemination of knowledge, education of population, officials and organizational personnel in the area of prevention and response to natural and man-made disasters; Endorsement and approval of legal decrees and documents, guidelines, and standards in the field of emergency situations; Development and management of common information and communication service as part of the State System of Prevention and Response to Emergency Situations and the Disaster Early Warning System in times of peace and war.

Include community based DRR management into national risk assessment methodology and regional development plans;

Creation of 10 local committees on emergency situations (LCES), training for them on DRR principles, first aid, and provision of necessary equipment. Development of local DRR plans. Trainings on how to act during emergencies and the basics of first aid for students and teachers
