Task 1 A. Lesson Planning Planning A Lesson Defination A lesson plan acts as a road map for a class session.

It identifies the destination (objective of the lesson) and marks out the route (activities for each stage of the lesson). Stages Of A Lesson Warm-up/Reviewencourages learners to use what they have been taught in previous lessons Introduction to a new lessonfocuses the learners attention on the objective of the new lesson and relates the objective to their lives Presentationintroduces new information, checks learner comprehension of the new material, and models the tasks that the learners will do in the practice stage Practiceprovides opportunities to practice and apply the new language or information Evaluationenables the instructor and learners to assess how well they have grasped the lesson Three Key Components:

Objectives for student learning Teaching/learning activities Strategies to check student understanding

An effective lesson has five parts:

Preparation Presentation Practice Evaluation Expansion

Steps for Preparing a Lesson Plan

(1) Outline learning objectives (2) Develop the introduction (3) Plan the specific learning activities (the main body of the lesson) (4) Plan to check for understanding (5) Develop a conclusion and a preview (6) Create a realistic timeline

Why Lesson Planning is Important Allow teachers to think through and get materials ready Give opportunity various options and make choice before the lesson is done. To get the software and hardware necessary for implementing a lesson Act as a record of work done To lay out expectations clearly Self confidence

Factors to consider when planning a lesson The general dan specific objective Student characteristics Previous knowledges of the students Tasks Materials Language requirements of task/activity Time Amount and type of student-teacher participation Balance in allocation of time Sequence ang grading of activities Gauging difficulty Accounting for individual different

Effective lesson planning o Increase the quality of teaching o Decrease the amount of stress present in classroom o Serves as a valuable mapto guide teachers to their goal

Benefits to Teachers from Effectively Planning Lessons To lower the amount of stress Students behavior problems are prevented As a valuable record that can reflect on and improve the next lesson Visualize lesson planning toplan for and achieve a successful teaching

Benefits to Students from Effectively Planning Lessons . A well plan teaching-learning atmosphere helps students be more attentive Students will achieve more with teachers who have planned lessons well because the lessons will be focused. Students will be able to develop HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) rather than merely developing LOTS (Lower Order Thinking Skills) when teachers take the time to plan out activities and lessons that include all levels of thinking according to Blooms Taxonomy. A well-designed lesson will integrate components that research tells us help stimulate brain development in students.
