Poland

Chemno , a town in Poland with 20,000 inhabitants, chem means hill . Has a mixed population of 1/3 Germans and 2/3 rd Poles. In World War II in 1939, Nazi German authorities murdered 5,000 Polish civilians , according to Hitlers plans. police began killing operations at Chelmno from December 8, 1941 to to March 1943.

The victims were Jews from Germany, Austria, Bohemia, Moravia, Luxemburg. Poles and Soviet prisoners of war, transported from their homes by truck to a castle in Chelmno, first to a back room where they undressed and handed over their possessions & the naked had to walk into a truck that could hold 50-70 persons.

When the back of the van was full, the doors were closed and sealed. Then carbon monoxide gas was pumped into the truck, killing them by asphyxiation. The van, now full of corpses, was driven to the Chelmno forest, where the bodies were buried in a grave. Only 7 Jews are known to have escaped from Chelmno killing. The Jews who were well-built, strong and capable of doing even the toughest work were loaded into a truck and taken to Chelmno to bury the corpses. Later they were all shot dead. The Germans abandoned the Chelmno killing center on January 17, 1945, as the Soviet army approached.

Lazienki Park is the largest park in Warsaw, Poland, Once a hunting ground attached to Ujazdw Castle, Lazienki was acquired by King Stanisaw in 1764 and transformed into a splendid park complete with . Lazienki palace, amphitheatre and other buildings. The centrepiece of the park is the l Palace on the Water, the former residence of the king.

The azienki Palace ---the Baths Palace; also called the Palace on the Water, finished in 1689, is built on an artificial island that divides the lake into two parts. The Solomon Room, in the palace has a series of paintings depicting the history of Solomon for King Stanisaw Augustus in 179193 by Marcello Bacciarelli . All these paintings were deliberately and completely destroyed by the Germans in 1944 (burned in a fire before the palace) during preparations to blow up the building. Polish is the official language of Poland.

Opened to the public in 1727 , Saski Park ranks as one of the oldest public parks in the world, and was originally designed in a French style. One piece of lost Warsaw is is the Saski Palace, formerly located in the grounds of Saski Park belonging to King Augustus II.
