Garana Village, meeting place for international jazz elite Garana Jazz Festival, an established event on the Romanian

and international jazz scene for 17 years now, will take place between July 11 and 14 in the village of Garana, in Romanias Semenic mountains, around 50 km away from Resita, at an altitude of 1,000 meters. Jazz stars Bill Frisell, Charles Lloyd, John Surman, Arild Andersen, Magnus Ostrom and Bugge Wesseltoft are those transforming the little village in the center of the jazz world, as well as others native and foreign jazz players from all over the world who will be among the artists to perform Thursday thru Sunday, from 19.00 till daylight. A surprise for the public will be the Charles Lloyd project, Sangam, which is part of the artists 75th Anniversary Tour. The great saxophonist will be accompanied by Zakir Hussain and Eric Harland, two jazz legends as well. The Romanian line-up for this years festival includes Peter Wertheimer, Mario Florescu, Peter Sarosi, Luiza Zan, Sorin Romanescu, Eugen Gondi and Nicolas Simion. The Romanian surprise will be the concert given by saxophonist Peter Wertheimer, who left Romania 30 years ago and settled in Israel. Those present in the festival will be able to see, throughout the festival, the photography exhibition Happy Birthday Mister Lloyd, signed by Elisabeth Lili Ochsenfeld. Moreover, the same artist presents on July 13 the international exhibition of visual art Eyemazing Florilegium. Another exhibition running for the time of the festival is First Jazz Festival Garana/Brebu 1997 At the crossroads, an exhibition which brings together works by the photographer Carmen Keilfofer. How to get there: Garana village is 50 km away from Resita, easiest reached by car. Trains run to Resita and Caransebes from Bucharest. The nearest airports are in Timisoara, Romania or Novi Sad and Beograd, Serbia. For accommodation, the locals can offer you bed & breakfast in cozy rooms, nothing very expensive or luxury. Tickets for the festival cost RON 60 a day and RON 200 for the entire festival and can be bought at the venue during the festival.
