Job Chapters 1-42 The Complete Trail of a Trial


There are at least 9 phases/steps in the trail of a trial. Although there may be more or lessthese phases are common for most major (Job-type) trials. Be Strong Resolute: marked by firm determination; purposeful and unwavering Characteristics of this phase: o When you are first hit with bad news, bad circumstances, etc. you make bold proclamations, o There is usually a determined desire to remain faithful to God. o It is usually marked by pronounced worship Scripture: Job 1:20-22 Remedy or Reason: o This phase usually occurs after a time of victory and or peace. You are typically at your strongest point of faith and are in right standing with God; therefore you are better prepared to respond to the situation Pity Party - Self Pity: Pity for oneself, especially exaggerated or self-indulgent pity. Characteristics of this phase: o This mindset stems from a sense of entitlement as a child of God. o Stems from the belief that you do not deserve what God has allowed to happen to you. Scripture: Job 3:20-26 Remedy or Reason: o Consider your situation in context do not blow it out of proportion o Consider your situation in light of what others are going through o Accept the fact that suffering is a part of the Christian experience Read Phil 3:10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death (ESV) Broken Heart (hurt) - to cause emotional pain or anguish to. Characteristics of this phase: o Rooted in a sense of betrayal o It is tied to a sense of a genuine relationship with God.

o Compare to John 11:17-37 (Anger and hurt are displayed in this dialogue) Scripture: Job 10:1-10, 13:20-25 Remedy or Reason: o Look at the cross and be reminded of how much God loves you. o Meditate on passages about Gods love: Romans 8:37-39 Ephesians 2:4-5 1st John 4:9-11 Character Assignation Anger: feeling or attitude marked displeasure Characteristics of this phase: o Sense of being treated unfairly o Sense of disloyalty the sense of violating the relationship o Sense of betrayal - the sense of being stabbed in the back o Compare to John 11:17-37 (Anger and hurt are displayed in this dialogue) Scripture: Job 16:7-17 Remedy or Reason: o Pray and ask God to help you through this stage. This is the stage where bitterness begins o Meditate on passages about Gods character: Psalm 100:5 God is good 1st John 4:8 God is love 2nd Thess 1:6-9 God is just Trial fatigue - Im tired of this The longevity of the trial or testing phase takes its toll on you and you begin to wander if it will ever end. Its a frustrating phase of the trial. Characteristics of this phase: o There is an underlying belief that its not worth it. o There is also the thinking that this trial will never end. o There is the assessment that your loses (time, resources, possessions) can never be recovered. o This phase occurs when I am carrying the burden. **Warning** There can also be an attempt to hurt God by hurting myself when I am unwilling to let go of the pain of the experience.

Scripture: Job 17:1-16

Remedy or Reason: o You must tap into Gods grace: 2nd Corinthians 12:9 Grace = Gods divine enablement Pray o Release the burden of the trial Let Go and Let God I must learn to trust God o Learn to love Gods No. No is good when said by God. Not now Not that Not at all o When God says no: He is either trying protect, steer, or give us something better than what we asked for Im a good person Self-Righteous In the mist of pain and suffering you begin to compare yourself to others and ask why bad things happen to good people. This disposition migrates to the God ought to be happy that I dont or that I do this or that. Characteristics of this phase: o There is an underlying belief that you are good because of your own efforts. o There is also a sense of Gods owing to you for being or doing good . o There is an unspoken envy of the disobedient in terms of what they enjoy and what you have sacrificed to be pleasing to God. **Our role in the good that comes from our lives is that we yield to God. We are not capable of sustained godly good in and of ourselves. Therefore the good that is in us comes from God.** Scripture: Job 27:1-6 Good teacher Mark 10:17-18 Nothing good dwells in me Romans 7:18-25 Boast in the Lord 1st Corinthians 1:26-31 I am who I am by the grace of God - 1st Corinthians 15:10 Remedy or Reason: o Humility phase where I recognized that the good in me is from God.

o Remember that God resist the proud James 4:6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Fear Phase I really do not know God because His actions or requirements are different from what I expected (or have been taught). Characteristics of this phase: o Fear of the unknown: afraid of the length, impact or intensity of the trial o Afraid of a new image or side of God as compared to seeing Him as a fuzzy wuzzy God who never gets mad, disciplines or allows His children to suffer. Scripture: John 6:66 o The disciples here something about Jesus that they are unwilling to accept therefore they no longer follow Him. Remedy or Reason: o Isaiah 41:10 Do not fear o Romans 8:15 o 2nd Tim 1:7 Broken Will Acceptance Is when and where Gods will for my life becomes my will for the life God has given me. Characteristics of this phase: o A sense of peace and serenity overcomes you. o It is not a bitter surrender. o It is an internal agreement in your spirit whereby you acknowledge that whatever God is doing in your life it is just, fair, and good. Scripture: Job 42:1-6 Remedy or Reason: o It is when and where you come to the end of yourself. Heart Felt Praise Growth genuine, spontaneous, sincere praise. Characteristics of this phase: o A genuine sense of Gods goodness and greatness o There is a great sense of humility for what you did not know about God.

o There is an appreciation for what God is doing in your life and how He might use you. o There is a special sense of closeness to God Scripture: Romans 5:3-5 (Job 42:1-6) o Perseverance endurance; the ability to bear up while under pressure o Proven character the quality of being approved; genuine faith o Hope- the resolved belief that God will fulfill all of His promises Remedy or Reason: o It is when you finally see God as He is! Great and glorious!!!
