SECTION 15411 WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM PART 1 GENERAL 1.1 SUMMARY A.

. This Section specifies the water distribution piping system, including potable cold, hot and re-circulated hot water piping, including associated fittings, and specialties within the building.

DEFINITIONS A. Definitions shall be in accordance with local plumbing codes and ASTM F 2389.

1.4

SUBMITTALS A. Material list naming each product to be used identified by manufacturer and product number, in accordance with Section 01300.

1.5

QUALITY ASSURANCE A. B. C. Material shall be certified by NSF International as complying with NSF 14, NSF 61, and ASTM F 2389 or CSA B137.11. Material shall comply with manufacturers specifications. Special Engineered products shall be certified by NSF International as complying with NSF 14.

PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 PIPE AND PIPING PRODUCTS A. Pipe shall be manufactured from a PP-R resin meeting the short-term properties and long-term strength requirements of ASTM F 2389. The pipe shall contain no rework or recycled materials except that generated in the manufacturer's own plant from resin of the same specification from the same raw material. All pipes shall be made in a three layer extrusion process. Domestic hot water and heating piping shall contain a fiber layer (faser) to restrict thermal expansion. All pipes shall comply with the rated pressure requirements of ASTM F 2389. All pipes shall be certified by NSF International as complying with NSF 14, NSF 61, and ASTM F 2389 or CSA B137.11. All the piping shall be not less than PN 16.

2.2

FITTINGS A. Fittings shall be manufactured from a PP-R resin meeting the short-term properties and long-term strength requirements of ASTM F 2389. The fittings shall contain no rework or recycled materials except that generated in the manufacturer's own plant from resin of the same specification from the same raw material. All fittings shall be certified by NSF International as complying with NSF 14, NSF 61, and ASTM F 2389 or CSA B137.11.

2.3

WARRANTY A. B. Manufacturer shall warrantee pipe and fittings for 10 years to be free of defects in materials or workmanship. Warrantee shall cover labor and material costs of repairing and/or replacing defective materials and repairing any incidental damage caused by failure of the piping system do to defects in materials or workmanship.

2.4

SMOKE AND FIRE RATINGS A. Where indicated on the drawings that a Plenum-rated Piping System is needed, then the pipe shall be factory Pre-insulated or field insulated and when tested with standard un-insulated fittings per CAN/ULC-S102.2-03 or ASTM E84, shall have an average Flame Spread Classification of less than 25 and an average Smoke Development rating of less than 50.

2.5

UV PROTECTION A. Where indicated on the drawings that the pipe will be exposed to direct UV light for more than 30 days, it shall be provided with a Factory applied, UV-resistant coating or alternative UV protection.

2.6

INTEGRAL THERMAL AND VAPOR BARRIER A. Where up to 1 inch of standard insulation is indicated on the drawings or in these specifications, a field installed, thermal (radiant, conductive, and convective) and vapor barrier insulation shall be provided for all straight lengths of pipe. The thick wall, self insulating fittings do not require an additional vapor barrier for the piping system to meet this performance level. Where up to 1.5 inches of standard inches of insulation is indicated on the drawings or in these specifications, a field

installed, thermal (radiant, conductive, and convective) and vapor barrier insulation shall be provided for all straight lengths of pipe and all fittings. The thermal barrier is UV resistant, CFC-free, non-porous, non-fibrous, and resist mold growth. The pipe with the integral thermal barrier with standard unprotected fittings shall meet the ASTM E84 and the CSA/ULc S102 requirements for a Flame Spread Rating of 25 and Smoke Development rating of 50. 2.7 PIPING SPECIALTIES: A. B. Water Hammer Arresters: Bellows type, with stainless steel casing and bellows, pressure rated for 250 psi, tested and certified in accordance with PDI WH-201. Flexible Connectors: Stainless steel bellows with a woven flexible bronze wire reinforcing protective jacket; rated for 150 psig water working pressure, 250 oF operating temperature and suitable for up to maximum 19 mm misalignment. Connectors shall be a minimum of 300 mm long and have threaded or flanged ends; sweat ends are not acceptable. Hose Bibs: Bronze body with integrated vacuum breaker, renewable composition disc, tee handle, 19 mm NPT inlet, 19 mm hose outlet. Backflow Preventers: Reduced pressure principle assembly consisting of shut-off valves on inlet and outlet, and strainer on inlet. Assemblies shall include test cocks, and pressure-differential relief valve located between two positive seating check valves, and comply with ASSE 1013. Relief Valves: 1. Provide proper size for relief valve, in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, for indicated capacity of the appliance for which installed. Combined Pressure-Temperature Relief Valves: Bronze body, test lever, thermostat, complying with ANSI Z21.22 listing requirements for temperature discharge capacity. Provide temperature relief at 210 oF and pressure relief at 150 psi.

ELECTRICAL WATER HEATERS: A. Electric water heaters shall be suitable for vertical or horizontal installations (as required) and provided with lifting lugs and channel skid base. Vessel shall be constructed to Section IV of the ASME Code, and UL Standards. Vessel shall be glass-lined with magnesium anode protection, pressure tested to 2 MPa working pressure. Entire vessel and electrical controls shall be encased in a sheet metal enclosure with baked enamel finish. Tank shall be insulated with verminproof fiber glass insulation. Units shall be provided with adjustable setting thermostatic controls and immersed nichrome heating elements. Water heaters shall prewired to solderless terminal lugs, factory tested, complete with ASME temperature and pressure relief valves and bear UL label. Water heaters shall meet or exceed the requirements of ASHRAE 90A-1980 Standard for energy efficiency. Water heaters shall also meet requirements of SASO 11. Temperature and pressure relief valves shall comply with the ASME rates and the vacuum relief valve shall comply with ANSI Z21.22, all valves shall be 3/4 inch in size and shall be labeled accordingly.

Refer to drawings for electric water heater capacities, minimum recovery and electrical ratings.

POTABLE WATER STORAGE TANK: B. Construction: Shall be fabricated from polyester resin reinforced with glass fibers and silica sand using the resin transfer molding (RTM) system ensuring two smooth surface and uniform thickness. Fabrication of tank shall comply with requirements of ASTM D 4021 and UL-listed. Tank shall be spherical, rectangular or horizontal cylindrical type and suitable for roof mounting with a capacity as shown on drawings. Tank shall be provided with manhole opening and rigid cover, air vent and, inlet, outlet and overflow fittings. Tank shall be able to withstand 5 to 1 safety factor (internal load). Tank shall be flushed and disinfected in accordance with AWWA C601 before usage. Internal surface of tank shall be coated with manufacturers standard opaque lining to prevent UV rays from penetrating the stored water and finished with white epoxy topcoat. Standard nozzles are made of chrome plated brass.

VALVES: A. Valves shall be as specified in Section 15100 - VALVES.

PIPE INSULATION: A. Insulation of hot water pipes shall be as per requirements of Section 15250 MECHANICAL INSULATION.

PUMPS: A. Refer to Section 15453 - PUMPS.

PIPE HANGERS AND SUPPORTS: A. Refer to Section 15140 - HANGERS AND SUPPORTS.

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 FUSION WELDING OF JOINTS A. Install fittings and joints using socket-fusion, elecrofusion, or butt-fusion as applicable for the fitting type. All fusion-well joints shall be made in accordance with the pipe and fitting manufacturers specifications and product standards. Fusion-weld tooling, welding machines, and electrofusion devices shall be as specified by the pipe and fittings manufacturer. Prior to joining, the pipe and fittings shall be prepared in accordance with F 2389 and the manufacturers specifications. Joint preparation, setting and alignment, fusion process, cooling times and working pressure shall be in accordance with the pipe and fitting manufacturers specifications.

3.2

PIPING INSTALLATIONS A. B. C. Install hangers and supports at intervals specified in the applicable Mechanical Code and as recommended by pipe manufacturer. Support vertical piping at each floor and as specified in the applicable Mechanical Code. Fire stopping shall be provided to both be compatible with the Aquatherm Piping and meet the requirements of ASTM E 814 or ULC S115, Fire Tests of ThroughPenetration Firestops. Pipe insulation shall be terminated 3 to 6 inches from where the pipe passes through a fire stop, as recommended by the fire stop manufacturer.

3.3

INSPECTING AND CLEANING A. The pipes should be flushed with cold water after finishing the installation. Inspect and test piping systems following procedures of authorities having jurisdiction and as specified by the piping system manufacturer. END OF SECTION
