General
1.1 Tournament -This is a DOTA 2 tournament hosted by the Iowa LAN League which will be taking place over the course of the MEG-Con 2013 event. This will be a single elimination best of three tournament with a third place match. 1.2 Administration The Iowa LAN League will be the host of this tournament and is responsible for issues pertaining to the running of the tournament. If you have any issues please contact an Iowa LAN League admin and not any other staff of the MEG-Con 2013 event. 1.3 Team Commitment 1.3.1 Every participant in the tournament must have the newest version of Steam and DOTA 2 install and has to check for updates and be updated before it is time for their match. Patching or downloading the game is not a valid reason to delay a match under normal circumstances! Every participant has to show respect towards other participants and admin staff. Insults and unfair or disrespectful behavior towards other participants or admin staff will not be tolerated and will be punished. Each member of a team must have the same Nickname/Handle listed throughout all of the matches. The Nickname/Handle must also be preceded by the team name/team initials for ease of identification by the admin staff.

1.4 Communication 1.4.1 The team captain for each team will be required to add the admin running the tournament on Steam as a means of communication throughout the tournament.

Participants will be required to use the on-site LAN server for voice. Usage of other voice communication programs will not be tolerated during tournament matched. If you need assistance setting up a room for a tournament match do so far enough in advance of your next match that you do not interrupt the tournament schedule.

1.5 Backdooring Any team is allowed to implement a backdooring strategy as long as they do not use an exploit to accomplish this 1.6 Item Sharing The sharing of basic regeneration items, consumables, and gems are allowed.

Competition Format
2.1 Competition Method 5 versus 5 2.2 Game Mode Captains Mode at Tournament Version 2.3 Tournament Bracket - The tournament will be played as a best of three using a Single Elimination format for all of the stages; this will include a round to determine a third place team on the bracket. 2.4 Game Lobbies Game lobbies for all of the tournament matches will be hosted by the admin staff. 2.4.1 2.4.2 2.4.3 2.4.4 Team captains will be given the lobby names and passwords 20 minutes before the match start time. The lobby will be created 15 minutes before the match start time giving each team a full 15 minutes to be in the match and ready to start. Sides (Radiant/Dire) will be decided before the first match in each best of three with a coin toss. All matches will be hosted on the US West Server unless there are outside issues that prevent it.

2.5 Grand Finals These will be played in a best of three 2.6 Ending A game is finished when one teams ancient is destroyed, when one team obviously forfeits, or when the majority of a team leaves on purpose. 2.7 After the Match An admin will update the bracket with the results. Teams are encouraged to screen-cap the final results screen for their own record.

Teams & Players


3.1 Team Size - A team may consists of five members. Only these five members are eligible to compete in the tournament unless arrangements have been made for a substitution. 3.2 Substitutions

3.2.1

The admin staff must be notified before your next match if your team needs to make a substitution for any reason. Teams are allowed to substitute twice only throughout the entire tournament. Substitutions can only be made before a match is done. Under no circumstance is it permissible to do a substitution during a match. If a substitution is made it must be from a person that is not a part of another team in the tournament.

3.3 Impersonating a Player - Having a player impersonate another player in the tournament is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. Impersonating a player or having someone impersonate a player will result in that team being removed from the tournament and forfeit any prizes awarded by their position. 3.4 Conduct 3.4.1 Throwing a match, halting play without cause, or showing a flagrant lack of effort will be construed as a violation of player conduct, and will result in match forfeit and disqualification from the tournament. The admin staff of the tournament has the right to disqualify and dismiss any registered player or team from the tournament, at their discretion, at any stage of the tournament, for any reason, with no prior warning. If a player has to leave the tournament area during their scheduled match, the admin staff must be informed as soon as possible.

Disconnections and Crashes


4.1 Disconnections If any player disconnects during a match, the game will be paused until the player has reconnected. Pausing is not used for any other reason! 4.2 Server Crash 4.2.1 In the event of a server crash, the game will be continues from the latest save. The host for the game lobby will create a new lobby from the save file for the crashed game. In the unlikely event that the loaded save file does not work, the game will be replayed with the same exact hero picks and lane movements until the first creep wave of the Radiant and the Dire side meets.

Restrictions & Forfeits


5.1 Exploits 5.1.1 Exploiting the game or map using bugs/glitches/flaws for the purposes of gaining an unfair advantage is prohibited.

5.1.2

The use of any third-party add-ons, hooks, programs, or wrappers that interact with or alter the DOTA 2 client, its appearance or behavior for the purpose of gaining an unfair advantage is prohibited. Players and teams caught using such add-ons will, at the discretion of the admin staff, be removed from the tournament and forfeit any prizes awarded by their position.

5.2 Forfeits 5.2.1 Any team that fails to appear for any scheduled match will be charged with a forfeit. Similarly, a forfeit will result when a team does not have the minimum number of required players (5 players) in the time allocated to start a match (15 Minutes).

5.2.2

Any team that forfeits two matches during the course of the tournament will forfeit all tournament prizes that would have been awarded to them by their end placing or position. 5.3 Rule Violations 5.4 Breaking the rules or ignoring the order of an admin may result in a punishment. The type and amount is chosen by the admin staff. Teams and participants acknowledge the right for the Iowa LAN League to modify the rules and regulations for adjustments at any time.
