Water Permeability of Membrane at Seamed Joint: Absolutely impermeable

Waterproofing membrane shall be applied in accordance with the following: 1. Horizontal and Vertical Waterproofing Applications for Basement, fountains, potable and non-potable water tanks, elevator and sump pits and other areas below grade as shown on Drawings: Membrane shall be applied in 2 layers, fully bonded torch applied to the primed substrate as follows: a. b. 2. First Layer: 4 mm thick, black finish. Second Layer: 3 mm thick, black finish.

Wet Areas (Kitchens, Tea Room, Toilets and Wash Areas): Single membrane (one layer) with minimum thickness of 4 mm, fully bonded, torch applied to the primed substrate.

B.

00Planter boxes: Double membrane (two layers) fully bonded torch applied to the primed substrate as follows: 1. First Layer: 3 mm thick, black finish with fine talcum on one side and a torchoff polyethylene foil fixed to the other side and contains a special anti-root chemical additive. Second Layer: 3 mm thick, finish with mineral granules on the top side and a thin torch-off polyethylene foil fixed to the other side and contains a special anti-root chemical additive.

2.

C.

Lining for Potable Water Tanks: 1. A two-component epoxy resin based, non-toxic, seamless, high build solventfree waterproof coating suitable for potable water applications and applied in two coats, 200 micron thick each, with glass-fiber reinforcement grade 110 g/m (between coats) on the internal surfaces of the tank as per written recommendations of lining Manufacturer. OR 2. A two-component epoxy polysulphide, non-toxic, seamless, solvent-free waterproof coating suitable for potable water applications and applied in total DFT of 500 micron on the internal surfaces of the tank as per written recommendations of lining Manufacturer. Material shall comply with BS 6920 with following characteristics: Tensile Strength @ 23o C to BS 903:A2 Elongation at Break @ 23o C to BS 903:A2 Adhesion to substrate to BS EN 24624 Concrete Steel Hardness to BS 2782 Part 3 : 7 MPa, minimum : 20%, minimum : >1 MPa : >2 MPa : 52 Shore D

Vapor Barrier: Polyethylene sheeting conforming to ASTM D 4397, minimum 200 microns thick having a vapor permeance rating not exceeding 0.063 perms, and shall be laid with 300 mm overlapping.

C. D.

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 INSTALLATION A. General: Waterproofing works shall be executed by a specialized Sub-Contractor recommended by the waterproofing and/or lining manufacturer and approved by the Engineer. Comply with waterproofing and/or lining manufacturer's recommendations regarding installation details, surface preparation, and torch applied process, priming of surfaces as well as the overlapping. Substrate shall be smooth, hard dry and free from high spots and depressions. Substrate shall be swept clean and free from dust, loose cement scale, oil, grease, foreign substances and debris. Starting at the low point of the slab, apply the waterproofing membrane loose laid for horizontal areas with minimum 50 mm overlap. All the joints shall be welded with hot air. Lay non-woven polyester fabric separation layer over waterproofing membrane prior to application of other finishing. On vertical areas, apply the waterproofing membrane mechanically fixed to walls with minimum 50 mm overlap. Use waterproofing manufacturer's standard fasteners with PVC covering for welding to the membrane. All the joints shall be welded with hot air. Apply protection board prior to backfilling. Test the work after completion by water flooding to a minimum height of 75 mm for a period of 48 hours.
