LO4: ORGANIZE LEARNING-TEACHING RESOURCES


Objectives:
1. Identify resources required for training and arrange in accordance with the organization, procedures and appropriate staff.

Resource
A resource is someone or something which can be used in the undertaking of a work or task. (For example people, finance and tools) A resource is an area of support to which one can turn in time of need. (For example advice from another trainer, financial support, other equipment.)

Types of Learning-Teaching Resources

1. HUMAN RESOURCE
Training Team:

TRAINER -

Someone who possesses the experience, knowledge, expertise of the subject matter and who has the capability to effectively deliver the topic. A person who is the focus of learning activity who is expected to participate actively in the learning process. They are responsible for training program implementation and documentation. >Assists the coordinators >Handles administrative arrangements >Reproduces training materials >Performs technical works

2. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
These are materials that are used to aid in the transference of information from one to another.

3. FACILITIES
A place equipped to fulfill a special function. Actual worksite as required by the training activity.

Building attributes A training facility for trainees must have flexible and technologically-advanced learning environments that are Safe, healthy, comfortable and accessible. It must be able to accommodate the specific space and equipment needs of the training program and curriculum. Areas of Facilities Training Venue Tools & Equipment TRAINING VENUE - The place where training occurs. It could be: Inside a classroom A resource center A laboratory A learning station Actual workplace Relevant to the needs of the learners. Conducive to receiving trainings. Free from unnecessary distractions. Comfortable Adequate in size to accommodate the trainees without overcrowding or wasting space too much. Accessible to the learners and trainers. Properly equipped as far as possible. Reasonably quiet. An area in which the learners can see the trainer and vice versa easily. Reflective, as far as possible of the real situation in which the learner normally works. Available to other users when not required for training.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT Tools Task or competency related implements and devices.

Equipment

Machineries needed for specific activity.

Essential features of equipment used in training 1. Relevant to the needs of the learner(s) 2. Safe to operate. 3. Reflective of the actual equipment the learner will use in reality. 4. Properly maintained. 5. Subject to the same controls as other equipment in the organization. 6. Capable of being partially dismantled when necessary for the learners benefit. 7. Can be operated by the trainer. 8. Fitted with extra safety devices if necessary. 9. Must not replace the trainer. 10. Must be useful in the training that is, will enhance the training. 4. TIME -Indicates the duration by which a learning outcome of each component of the learning content will be undertaken. TIME MANAGEMENT IS ESSENTIAL IN EACH LEARNING ACTIVITY. Time once spent cannot be recouped. Main features of Time 1. Time must be examined periodically. 2. Time is not limit less and there are going to be constraints. 3. Time must be planned. 4. Time must be allocated for training. PREPARATION + PRESENTATION + CONSOLIDATION = EFFECTIVE USE OF TIME 5. FINANCES - Budgetary requirements of a training program. In any organization, finance is limited and generally departments have to fight for a share of the total. 3 Points to consider 1. The benefit must outweigh the cost. 2. The trainer should endeavor to get the best returns for the money you spend. 3. In training you must have a budget.

In Budgeting you must: 1. Plan ahead 2. Exercise dynamic as opposed to static control of your department.

Make comparisons. Anticipate changes and prepare for them. Establish benefits against cost and urge your case more effectively. Develop critical ability enabling you to think ahead.

Inventory of Learning-teaching Resources


1. Gather all available learning/instructional resources from your own file, library and other appropriate sources. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Sort according to types, classification, and uses of materials. Prepare list of training-learning resources. Compare your listed resources against the standard stated in the Training Regulation. Arrange your tools and equipment in accordance with the standard. All learning resources for a given competency could be placed in a filing cabinet in the training resource center or in the workshop.
