One of the greatest benefits of hot-dip galvanizing is the barrier and cathodic protection afforded to the steel. Small scratches in the galvanized surface present little or no problem as the zinc will allow itself to be preferentially consumed, keeping the underlying steel rust-free. However, where large portions of the zinc coating have been damaged due to drilling, welding, transporting, or construction mishap, its important to repair or touch-up the damaged section. Touch-up and repair of galvanized steel, to meet ASTM A 780, can be completed in several different ways, including use of zinc-rich paint, zinc solders and/or zinc metallizing. This list of suppliers provides information about companies with touch-up and repair products. Individual companies should be contacted for product information. Inclusion of a supplier on this list does not indicate that suppliers material meets ASTM A 780. Omission from this list does not mean that material supplied by a company does not meet ASTM A 780.
