General Guidelines on Installation of JB Frame

Based on the interconnection diagram the total no of junction boxes (i.e.12 way, 24 way etc) required for the system shall be estimated. The requirement shall be compared with the actual quantity supplied. The junction boxes shall be inspected before taking up erection. Any rust/corrosion shall be cleaned thoroughly, if necessary the terminals shall be replaced. Before proceeding for erection the tentative location of field instruments shall be ascertained and the junction boxes for instruments around a particular area shall be grouped together, grouping of junction boxes shall be in such a way that the number of groups shall be less and each group shall have max no. of junction boxes. If the grouping of junction box is properly made considerable space can be saved. By grouping the junction boxes, aesthetics can be improved, free movement for commissioning / O & M personnel can be ensured due to space saving. The mounting height of Junction box shall ensure working convenience and width of frame shall be optimum. Spacing between junction boxes shall be such that glanding / termination, dressing of cable and earthing of JB shall be possible. The glanding of cables shall be from bottom only. If the No of cables is more or if there is space constraint, then glanding can be done from side, glanding at the Top should be avoided. It is always preferable to use double compression gland for outdoor application. Tag nos of junction boxes shall be painted prominently in the JB cover. The interconnection details pertaining to a particular JB shall be pasted in the cover of the JB (internally). This will help a lot in trouble shooting. The interconnection detail given by the manufacturing unit / Design Engg. Dept. shall not be changed / corrected. Due to unavoidable reason, if the interconnection detail has be modified it shall be intimated to design engineer and the corrected document shall be made available to all concerned.
