THIS JULY, THE INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT KOZHIKODE (IIMK) INDUCTED 353 STUDENTS AFTER ADMINISTERING A RIGOROUS SELECTION PROCEDURE. THESE STUDENTS WILL GO THROUGH THREE TERMS OF ACADEMIC WORK AFTER WHICH THEY WILL UNDERGO AN 8-10 WEEK SUMMER INTERNSHIP AT VARIOUS ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS THE WORLD. THIS PUBLICATION IS INTENDED TO HELP YOU, THE RECRUITER, REACH THE STUDENTS BEST SUITED TO YOUR COMPANY.

SUMMER INTERNSHIPS - THE CONCEPT

Summer Internship is an integral part of the PGP course at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode. During their first year, students are trained in functional areas of Marketing, Finance, Consulting, Economics, Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, Operations and Information Technology which orient them towards a business culture. The courses aim at molding their work ethic and developing skills highly valued by the contemporary industry. At the completion of the first year in PGP course, students spend 8-10 weeks during the summer in the industry. Students are exposed to a real time business environment, and take up responsibilities and goals which aim at being mutually beneficial for both the student and the organization. It serves as a platform for applying the management theories learnt in the classroom and helps in providing clarity about the functional area that they desire to specialize in. Internships thus have a crucial influence on the career path and choice of organization by a student.

SUMMER RECRUITMENT PROCESS

(October, 2012) An eight-nine week long internship at the organization provides students and organizations a mutual learning opportunity. Step 1 (September, 2012 1st week onwards) Companies make a PPT outlining the various roles/ projects on offer during summers. Step 2 (September, 2012 last week onwards) Based on students preference, the companys slot is confirmed by the Placements Committee. Resumes of interested candidates are sent to the company, and thereafter the shortlists are provided. Step 3 (October, 2012 1st week onwards) Companies arrive on campus and after conducting their selection process, make offers to the students according to the manner prescribed for their slot. Step 4 (April, 2013 to June, 2013) Students are available for internship lasting 8-9 weeks. Step 5 (June, 2013 to November, 2013) Companies can offer PPOs during this time period, the acceptance of which shall be communicated at the end of Final Placements. 3

SUMMER INTERNSHIP AT IIM KOZHIKODE THE TREND
IIM Kozhikode continued to maintain its 100% placement record over the last fifteen years with over 100 firms making offers to students across different verticals in 2011. The summer process of 2011 saw the participation of over 35 firms that took part for the first time in addition to the loyal recruiters who have always believed in the talent pool at IIM Kozhikode. Many of the firms made a record number of offers, the highest over several years, reaffirming the status of the college as a premier institution of global repute. The companies offered challenging profiles across different verticals that would allow the students to understand market realities & apply their business acumen to solve live problems being faced in each of the core sectors. The first-time recruiters were impressed by the academic excellence & rigor of the curriculum and the diverse talent pool available at IIM Kozhikode. GETTING TO KOZHIKODE
Location Kozhikode (also called Calicut) is the third-largest city in the state of Kerala. The capital of the erstwhile Malabar district, Kozhikode city is the headquarters of the Kozhikode district. A melting-pot of diverse cultures, Kozhikode is an important trade centre in south India, associated for long with trade in spices and silk. Today, Kozhikode is famous for its palm-fringed beaches, tropical forests, and Ayurvedic therapy. You can plan on extending your stay if you wish to tour other parts of Kerala.

Travel Kozhikode is well connected by air, rail and road to major cities in India. Indian Airlines, Spice Jet and Jet Airways have frequent flights from Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai to Kozhikode International Airport. Cochin International Airport is a 4-hour drive from Kozhikode. Alternately, Cochin and Kozhikode are connected by direct flights. Kozhikode International Airport is connected by daily direct flights to major cities in the Middle East.
