FOODS TO BOOST YOUR METABOLISM


Your metabolism is the process that breaks down proteins, carbs and fats to use the energy they provide. Your metabolic rate depends on a variety of things including the amount of calories you consume, the amount you burn off through exercise and also your genes. How can you give yourself a helping hand and boost your metabolism? One way is through exercise (high intensity interval training or HIIT) or even simply having more muscle mass means a higher metabolismjust one pound of muscle burns an extra 50 calories a day! But what you put into your body also plays a huge role in determining how hard your metabolism works. Weve made a list of our top foods that may actually help you lose the pounds by improving your metabolic rate... GREEN TEA studies have shown that this magic leaf can increase metabolism, regulate glucose levels and prevent fat absorption. GRAPEFRUIT lowers insulin levels, reduces cravings and increases the rate at which our bodies burn fat. It is also full of water and fibre and so will keep you feeling satisfied until your next meal. CHILLI A chemical found within chillies called Capsaicin increases the bodys temperature which this then increases your metabolic rate as the body works to correct the change in temperature. ALMONDS They contain fatty acids that help raise your metabolism. They are best eaten raw so add a small handful to a smoothie or sprinkle some ground up almonds onto your porridge in the morning. CINNAMON increases sensitivity to insulin which nudges the body in fat burning mode- cayenne pepper, cumin and ginger does this too. Studies show that adding cinnamon to your meals can raise your metabolism by as much as 20%.

Mike and Nik were part of a team of 6 who rowed a Cornish Gig from Dover to Calais in 5 hours 45 minutes. They both really enjoyed the challenge despite the mental and physical hard work it took. BODY POWER! Chris and a group of members took a trip down to the Body Power Expo on the 18th May to meet some of the top Bodybuilders, Strongman competitors and athletes in the world. Weve had people training for events like the Wilmslow 10km, the Stoke X-Mud and the London Marathon- those sessions on the treadmill paid off!
