Module Title: Quantitative and Statistical Research Methods

INSTRUCTIONS: Answers should be word processed. The University policy on referencing (Harvard) should be fully implemented. Students will be expected to demonstrate mastery of the designated Module information including the wider designated reading from the related text. Students are reminded that Level 7 work requires a critical perspective to be adopted. It is not sufficient to adopt a descriptive account alone. Answers should consider alternative viewpoints and problematic aspects of the topic. Answers that offer an idealized version of what should happen are unlikely to attract high marks. LEARNING OUTCOMES This assignment aims at ensuring that the following learning outcomes are achieved: 1. Interpret existing research as a prelude to carrying out further investigation and demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of a range of research designs and their appropriate utilisation; 2. Source, evaluate and appropriately reference information from a range of sources; 3. Conceptualise a problem; formulate hypotheses and objectives; design a research strategy, collecting, analysing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data as appropriate; and 4. Select and justify the most appropriate analyses, interpret the results, and write up the results accurately and completely. _________________________________________________________________________________________________

Question: How to Design and Conduct a Case Study: Select a company which you would like to carry out the case study and write a case study report of 3000 words: +/- 10% according to the followings: - Establish the studys question and explain why such a question should be studied. - Demonstrate the Research Strategy, i.e. the logic of design, data collection techniques, and approaches to data analysis, applied for your case study and explain why such a strategy is to be adopted. - To illustrate and demonstrate how your case study is designed, i.e. i) the studys question, i.e. who, what, where, how, and why; ii) its propositions, if any; iii) its units(s) of analysis; iv) the logic linking the data to the propositions; and v) the criteria for interpreting the findings. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Assessment Criteria and Marking Scheme The assessment will focus on the level of ANALYSIS carried out. That is, the application of THEORETICAL CONCEPTS studied in the module to the practical case study presented. In other words, you should proceed beyond a DESCRIPTION of the company and its actions. You should be analysing 'why' rather than describing 'what'. Academic Rigour (25%) Ability to isolate the key research strategic issues Exhibiting the ability to evaluate and analyse the research strategic issues Coherence and depth of the analysis of those issues Ability to analyse the case study strategy within the organisations operations To be able to critically review and evaluate research strategic decisions made by the organisation Methodology (25%) Use of relevant evidence to support any statements made Appropriateness of the methods used and theoretical models and frameworks applied Breadth and depth of research undertaken Evaluation of Data (25%) Ability to collect and analyse research data Ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative data as appropriate Ability to make sound recommendations or conclusions arising from the analysis Presentation (25%)
