0 Introduction Libraries have for hundreds of years been an important entity for every kind of institute, especially in the educational sector. So now it is an age of computers and internet. People are now using electronic resources to fulfill their needs and requirements of their life. Therefore libraries have also converted to computerized systems. People can access and use library resources just sitting at their computers by using the internet. Libraries often contain many thousands of books, magazines, CD-ROMs, etc. In fact, some of the largest libraries (e.g. The British Library in the UK) contain well over 100 million items - that's a lot of things to keep track of!

For this reason, libraries use computer-based systems to keep a record of their books, and of the people who borrow the books.

A computerized library database allows for:

Quick and easy searching for books Easy printing out of book lists / labels Easy tracking of book loans (who has it, when it was borrowed, etc.)

Automatic printing of warning letters for borrowers who have not returned books

The Book Database A typical library book database might contain:

Book ID (number / text) Title (text) Author (text) Publisher (text) ISBN (number) Fiction / non-fiction (Boolean) Genre / category (text) Cost (number) Date of purchase (date)

1.1 Background of the Study The National Holy Spirit High schools library is not a big one for their school, in other words it is just fitted for the school which is not also that

big one. The books in that library have a small number and at the same time others are not owned by the school. Another thing is some books there are lost and not returned by the borrowers. In that case, they cant monitor their book records because they dont have a complete record yet. Also, the librarian told us that she just started last October 2012 so it means she dont have any history about the previous things that happened on the library from the time its started. Year 2004 when this school started and from that time forward the librarian/s just using the Dewey Decimal System through Access Numbers to keep records of their books. Good thing in this library is they have computers that have an internet access. Those computers can be used by the students if the information they are looking for cant be found on the books. Its free to use by the students, well of course its for internet searching only and no other browsing pages. Going back to librarys books, students may borrow it and let it out of the school, but they are given due dates or allowed days for it to return. The allowed days for the books are, one to two days for the books that often used by the students and one week if the books are using for a project/theses. We mentioned above that they cant monitor their books records at the same time who borrowed it, thats why using the computerized

library system; they can now monitor the books record. They can also give reminders to the borrowers for them to return the books they borrow. Computerized library system is a database like system that keeps track of the librarys books records and the people who borrowed the books. As for the manual system, there processes of borrowing are as follows: 1. Ask the librarian for the books that you want to borrow; and 2. Log-in on the log-book stating your name, books title, books access number and the date it was borrowed. And as you returned the books the librarian is the one going to sign on the log-book stating her signature us a sign that you already returned the books. 1.2 Statement of the Problem 1.2.1 General Problem As we conduct the interview on National Holy Spirit High School, we can say that the main or general problem involved is they are just using the log-in| log-out on a log-book. That book serves as their records for the students whose borrowing the books. They also didnt get the IDs of the students so librarians havent any important thing that the students need to get from the librarians

once they return the books. Students may forget to return what they borrowed because theres no important thing they need to get, and apparently, they can also lost the books. 1.2.2 Specific Problems 1.2.2.1 Time Consuming In the sense that students need to wait for the student who are logging in, What if he/she cant find the exact line / column where he/she would write then students following him/her would at least wait for him/her to finish filling up. In this problem, it focuses on the side of the students that urgently needing the books for they have a short minutes allowance to research but because there are students on top so that students must need to be taken care of before his/her.

1.2.2.2 Students that didnt return the books As for the librarians that they didnt get anything from the students e.g. ID, registration form, etc, students may
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------COMPUTERIZED LIBRARY SYSTEM OF NATIONAL HOLY SPIRIT HIGH SCHOOL 1-5

forget to return the books that they borrowed. Another thing is, books may be lost not knowing by the librarian because she didnt monitor the books record and she didnt reminds the students who borrowed the books in the sense that she dont have any reliable records of the borrowers.

1.2.2.3 Few numbers of books The books in the library are not enough for the students references. They cant research well and gather appropriate information because the library has a limited number of books. Students also need to wait until the student who borrowed the book return it before he/she can have the books. On the brighter side, if the computer is available, students may use it for researching the topics he/she is gathering. 1.2.2.4 Hard to find the books

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------COMPUTERIZED LIBRARY SYSTEM OF NATIONAL HOLY SPIRIT HIGH SCHOOL 1-6

As for the books that didnt properly arranged, it will be hard for the librarian to find it when students need to borrow the books whereas when she have the computerized library system it will be easy for her to find to books by searching it in the books database. Then she will remember that the books are on that side of the literature, story-fictions, and other genres.
