TrestleBoard
AUGUST 2013 VOLUME 7, ISSUE 8

From the East

Brothers, The Resolution relating to applicants for reinstatement after suspension for nonpayment of dues, published in The Trestleboard in July, was adopted by the Craft at our July 9th stated communication. Therefore, a Brother of this Lodge who has been suspended for Non-Payment of Dues may be restored to membership by applying for reinstatement and being elected according to the provisions of Regulation 27.13 of the Digest of Masonic Law of Florida, and this Lodge agrees to waive past dues. In effect, until March 31, 2014, the policy expressed in this Resolution will allow any Brother suspended in prior years for nonpayment of dues to apply for reinstatement paying only dues for the current year. I have scheduled a Fellow Craft degree on August 20, 2013. Dinner will be served in the dining room beginning at 6:30 P.M.; wives and children are invited, as usual. The degree will begin promptly at 7:30 P.M. Please plan to attend to support our new Masons as they continue their journey in Freemasonry. The Scholarship Committee has selected our scholarship recipient for this year. His name is Douglas Keeling. He is a fine young man and an excellent student who plans to study aviation at UNF, and he needs financial assistance to achieve his goal. He will be joining us for dinner before the Fellow Craft degree when he will be introduced to the Craft and receive his award. Masonic Leadership Training will be held at Ezra Lodge, 7400 Buffalo Avenue, Jacksonville, on August 24th. Breakfast will be served at 8:00 A.M., and the scheduled training, lessons six through ten, will begin promptly at 9:00 A.M. After the scheduled training, lessons two through five will be offered as time permits for those Brothers who wish to participate. We have petitions pending from Mr. Michael Farrell Castleberry and Mr. Daniel John Beach to join our venerable fraternity, which we will be considering in our August stated communications. We also have an application from Mr. Marshal Thomas, Jr. to continue his journey from Entered Apprentice to Fellow Craft after a lapse of more than six months, which will be considered by the Craft in August. Sincerely and fraternally, Zeb Turner, Worshipful Master

Masonic Funeral notice The new Worshipful Master of a Lodge in a small town spent several hours making personal telephone calls to each of the members inviting them to attend his first stated communication as Worshipful Master. Nearly everyone that he spoke to assured him that he would try to be there. At the meeting the following Tuesday evening the Lodge was all but empty; there were barely enough Brothers there to open a Lodge of Master Masons. The Worshipful Master was disappointed, but not defeated. He published a prominent notice in The Trestleboard in bold type, bordered in black: Brothers, our Lodge has died, and it is the duty of every Master Mason to give it a decent Masonic burial. The funeral will be held on Tuesday evening on what would have been the date of our next stated communication. Morbidly curious, a large crowd turned out for the funeral. Before the altar, they saw a closed coffin covered with flowers. After the Chaplain delivered the eulogy, the Worshipful Master opened the coffin and invited his Brothers to come forward and pay their final respects to their deceased Lodge. Filled with curiosity about what would represent the corpse of a dead Lodge, each of the Brothers solemnly lined -up with bowed head to look into the coffin. One at a time, as he approached each raised his head and looked into the coffin, and then he quickly turned away with a guilty, sheepish look on his face. Inside the coffin, tilted at the proper angle, was a large mirror. Do you remember the obligation that we all took? Do you attend and support your Lodge regularly? Author unknown
