Vol. 888, No. 11

for

Christ
Novembet, 1968

Edited by Ed & Jean Kelsey, Misaibnaties

Honolulu. Hawaii

After many months of sayiiig, "soon," we finally have a cutient pictuie of the Kelsey family. They ate ftee for the asking. Unless another size is specified, 4x5 will
be sent.

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE IN HAWAII??

Before our arrival here a year ago, a number o people gave us names and addresses o friends or relatives living
out here.
other men could call on them

Some of those names were sent out ahead so all of the names were

kept on a list for personal follow-up ourselves. A terrible thing happened though; we have been unable to locate the list. Apparently it is forever lost. If you have in the past given us names and never heard about them, please give them to us again. Or if you know someone here you
would like to be in church, just let us know so we may call on them and pray for them.

UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY

As you no doubt have noticed we haven't reported any flying lessons in quite some time. We feel that the ability to fly will be a decided advantage in our future work here

among the islands, However funds just didn't seem to

be available.

In our search for a cheaper way to obtain

flight instruction, we came across the Civil Air Patrol.

This is a youth organization sponsored by the Air Force which also plays a large part in Air-Sea Rescue operations, especially here in the Pacific. Well, we found that not only could I save money on flight instruction, but mote important, could be used in their Chaplins program. For
the last several weeks I've spent one evening a week

as a visiting minister with a squadron of cadets in Aiea. These young people have responded in a wonderful way to the moral guidance lectures . It has also been possible to s|)eak evangelistically as there are no teal restrictions as long as I covet the material specified. Whether or not any of these young people become Christians remains to
be seen. But the seeds are definitely being planted. Please pray about it!

ANOTHER NEW FAMILY ATTENDS PALOLO

The Arnold Deagle family has recently returned to the

Islands and have begun attending church at Palolo. Mr. Deagle hails from the mainland but is now in business
here in Honolulu. His wife's parents ate in Mechanics-

ville, Virginia and her father ministers to the Lord's

church there. The Deagles have two little girls and we

hope that this fine family will choose Palolo to attend

each Lord's Day.

GOD ALWAYS PROVIDES FOR HIS OWN

In August and September a total of $331.25 was received

over and above what was needed to pay off the bus. We want to thank each one that had a part iti this. The bus

already has been an invaluable blessing to us and our work. The, final payment of $231.75 has been made and
the balance above was absorbed by the General Fund.

This again goes to show how God blesses when it is really

needed. Without it September would have been short and bills from July couldn't have been paid at all. However all works to good to them that love the Lord.

NEWS FLASH

As this issue is going to press an important thing is about to happen. Contact has been made with the brethren of
the non-instrument churches of Christ. A meeting of the

ministers of both groups is scheduled for 7 November.

This is not an effort to convert one another over the Piano

issue, of course, but a sincere attempt on both sides to establish a bond of fellowship in Jesus Christ our Lord!

CHARLES LUTTRELL IS BACK HOME

Due to a fall which resulted in some fractured ribs, Brother

Luttrell had to cut short his travels on the Mainland and

return home. Chaxles was in severe pain for awhile but is now feeling much better although he must limit his
activities somewhat.

SEASONS' GREETINGS

The above headline means we goofed off and did not get
This issue printed in time to mail before Christinas. We

do hope yooT Christmas was nice and that your new year
will be even nicer. We trust that you will endeavour to

make 1969 a year of service for our Lord and ask that you
pray that we will also.

ATTENTION SCHOOL TEACHERS !!!

School teachers Do you want to serve your Lord in

a meaningful way? The 1968-69 school year in Hawaii was begun witli a sizeable number of teaching positions UNFILLED, thus necessitating the use of substitutes for these classes. This spells a golden opportunity for Christian school teachers to work at their profession in a land where their Christian witness is sorely needed. (Incidentally - public school teachers in Hawaii will all get a SUBSTANTIAL raise in pay next fall). We will be glad to send you more information.

CHRISTIAN SCHOOL NEEDS TEACHERS !!!

There are also vacancies on the faculty at The Kaimuki

Christian School (one of our two Christian schools on

Oahu). A preschool teacher is needed as well as one for fifth & sixth grades. The need is immediate but if not filled with permanent personel, will be open again next fall. Unlike the mission operated school at Sunset Beach, The Kaimuki Christian School (sponsored by Kaimuki Christian church) is self-supporting. Therefore

you would not have to raise your own support. This is anexcellent opportunity for qualified CHRISTIAN tsechers. Contact the Kaimuki Christian church, or we will be glad to forward your request for information to them.

CAMP PLANNING

Once

each month the miiiisteis

of the

New Testament

chuEches of Chxist and Christian churches gather for a time of fellowship and to conduct business affecting us all. Our primary matter of business is the management of Hawaiian Christian Service Cam^i; . New Officers were

elected at the December meeting. THey arehEd Kelsey, President; Harold Gallagher, yice-Ptesident; and Leo Douglass, Secratary-Treasurer. This year the ministers
will continue their study of the camp, reevaluatiiig its

goals and purposes witli a view to placing more responsi

bilities for its management upon the men of the churches and consider such changes and reeorganization as may

be necessary to better enable it to meet these ends. This study has been underway for two years. Please pray that
our concentrated efforts in 1969 will result in souls being

won to Christ and young people being challenged to give

theii lives to Him in Christian service.

ALOHA MILLERS

This past month we had visitors from Troy, Missouri call us - the parents of out good friend Bill Miller, Aloha
Millets, we hope your visit was pleasent.

SHOLTIS FAMILY RETURNS

Another missionary family has returned from furlough.

They are Joe and Dora Sholtis, ministering to the Maile

church. They were gone for several months and ate happy
to be back with their congregation.

PLANNING PROJECT

One of the activities that is beginning to occupy moie and mote of oui time is the project of pi anning our next

effort, that of beginning a new work here in the Islands. We are analyzing population figures, projections for future

years and other data, trying to determine where we might best begin so as to give the new congregation the greatest

possible chance of success. There ate several areas on

Oahu, as well as all of the other Islands, needing attention.

We pray about this a great deal.

Please pray with us

that we win see the hand of God leading here.

A VERY SPECIAL PERSON

Sometime very early in 1969 we are planning to lun an

article (with picture) of out Forwarding Agent, Jo Ann

Dedmon, iii Tampa, Florida. She performs a very important

service for us personally as well as for the Lotd. Without her we would always be behind in out bookeeping and
she does a number of other things which we will mention
in out future feature article.
cation to His woik.

We just want to say now,

Mahalo Jo Ann for your love for the Lotd and your dedi

WELCOME MISSIONARY INTERNS

In connection with our plans for the immediate future, we

ate hoping to bring about ten young men and women over
to the Islands this summer to help survey the new atea

as well as assist in personal evangelism and office work.
