Dear Friends

Loved Ones in Christ Jesus,

Pirst of all, we want to extend our sincerest wishes to each and every one of you for a Happy New Year! - We pray that God might lead and guide your evc^ry step during the coining
year.

HOLIDriYS IN CHILE

We have really enjoyed our first Christmas in Chile!

There are so many interesting

customs here, and it was really quite a contrast to what we had been used to in tbe States. Santa Claus here is known as "Viejo Pascua", which translated means "Old Mnn Chrisitnias."

He wears the typical red suit, 'black boots, and white beard, but just isn't guite tjhe "jolly old man" that Santa Claus in the States is. Whereas in the U. S. every town .and
big department store has a Santa Claus, wo never saw one here, except at our Christma-s Eve
Party.

contrast! Christmas trees are very rare here, because, for conservation purposes, it is against the law to cut down trees to sell. Therefore nursery planted evergreen trecy ax*'e
the only ones available, and they are too expensive for most people to buy. The big plaza . in the center of Osorno was not decorated with colored lights or decoration at all, so it was quite hard for us to realize that it was this time of the year! We saw no manger
scenes to depict our Saviour's coming, and heard v-::ry little Christmas music on the radio.

There is very little commercialization here in Chile, so this in itself is quite a

We were thrilled to have Ed & Sara Holt, and their daughter Christy as our guests for We ore glad

Tho Church here had a big Christmas Eve Program and Party, which was really a big suc cess. Around 60 men, women, and children wure crowded into our living room and dining room to sing carols, hear the Christmas story read once againfrom the Bible, and to see the

There was a great spirit of joy and unity'as the brethren here met

for this fellowship one with another!

For several months, we have been praying about and considering our future plans for the Lord's work, -ns you all know, we came to Chile with the purpose of keeping the work of the Chilean Radio Ministry going, while the Alberto Gonzalez family returned to the States for furlough. They will be coming back to Chile, Lord willing, around the middle of Pebrua^. ..fter much prayer, we have decided to return to tho States at this time, to go work with Spanish-^imericr'n Evangelism in El Paso, Texas. So as we moke final plans to return to the States in a couple months, and to move to El Paso to join the work of Spanish-^imerican Evangelism, we want to ask for your continued prayers and continued support. We will need a minimum of 15600. a month for living and. working expenses at S.A.E. During this past year, we feel we have really been blessed with the help of each and every one of you, and we trust that in the future, even though our

field of service will be in a different place, that you will all realize the great

Then, Lord willing, we will be moving to El Paso, and getting settled before our family increases in sise around May 1st!
A CLOSING THOUGHT

for all of us.

We would like to close this month's letter with a Scripture which is full of meaning

dekr brothers, I plead with you to give your bodies to God-

Let them be a living sacrifice, holythe kind He can accept. When you think of what He has done for you, is this too much to ask? Don't copy the fashions and customs of this world, but be a new nnd different person
with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Then you will see from your own experience how His ways will really satisfy you."

May you continue to live for Him each day during this new year! In Christian Love, Ron and Caralyn Clark

Osorno. Chile

Dear Friends & Loved Ones in Christ Jesus,

Greetings to each and every one of you in the precious name of our Lord & Saviour,
Jesus Christ! Our Chilean summer is going by so quickly, it seems, and we have been

constantly busy with our many activities here.

We're so thankful for the good health

we've had, to enable us to be more effective workers for our Lord.

Early in January, we got to experience what it's like to move "Chilean style." The mother of our landlord came back to '^hile from a trip to Germany, and needed the house we

were living in.

a.s there is quite a severe housing shortage in Osorno, it took us ^

Luckily, our new home is just 3 houses down the street

from where we were living, so getting everything moved was fairly easy.

begin the move, however,"Ron had to take our rent receipt to the police department, and get a moving permit. This is to protect landlords from tenants who move without having their'rent paid up-to-date. Now, in Chile, one of the first things that has to be done upon moving into a house, is to get sone lights hooked up, because when a family moves,

it takes all light fixtures, all bathroom fixtures (towel racks, etc.), and yvery light
bulb out of the house with them!

in just 2 weeks, 7 of our young people from Osorno and La Union will be traveling to Curacavi for Church camp. They are all getting so excited, as most of them have never gotten to go so far away from home before. In our Sunday and Wednesday services, they

have been busy presenting Scriptures which they've memorized, and large Bible maps which
th<^'ve made. Ve wint to say a special "thank you" to"those of you who gave special

gifts, to the camp fimd.

this experiencel

We know our campers will receive a rich Spiritual blessing from

On Saturday afternoon, January 25, we were thrilled as Mr. & Mrs. Juan Catrilef were buried with their Lord in Christian baptism, here in Osorno. Brother Leonidas Munoz had been witnessing to them and teaching them in their home for a couple months, and they

had been faithful in attending all the services of the ^hurch during this tii^e also.
so thankful for their decision to complete their obedience of faith in the Lord Jesus, and we want to ask you all to be praying for their continued faithfulness and growth!

We're

Already the Catrj, lefs are witnessing to their parents, who are in their 70's, and
are not Christians. Sunday, January 2^, 3 families accompanied the Catrilefs to Riachuelo,
where Mrs. Catrilef's folks live. We left Osorno early in the morning, and arrived at the "family farm" about an hour later. It was a beautiful summer day, and we enjoyed so much the fresh fruits from their trees--apples, cherries, plums, and pears. For dinner

the men went out to the lamb pen and chose a young lamb to butcher and roast.

Before

coming back to Osorno for the evening worship services, we had a Bible study with her

parents. They have invited us to come back again for further study from the Word of God, so we are grateful for this opportunity once more to teach the Gospel!
In our last two newsletters, we have briefly mentioned the Ed Holt family, who
arrived in Chile December 8. We received word this week that Ed is confined in a Santiago

hospital with typhoid fever for at least 2 weeks. This, of course, is quite discouraging for Ed and Sara, so especially be remembering tham in your prayers at this difficult time.

In just ^ weeks, we will be leaving Chile, after having served here a year in the
absence of ..ilberto and Mary Gonzalez. ^ift'3r spending about 10 days with each of our families, we will be moving in late March to El Paso, Texas, to join the work of Spanish-

limerican Evangelism.

We hope you'll be praying for us, as we travel and relocate.

We

pray that our efforts and opportunities to serve the Lord might increase in the coming

weeks and months. H^w grateful we are for the financial and spiritual support which all of you have given to us here in Chile! We foel like it has boen a wonderful opportunity

for us to serve the Lord, and that the experience of working with the Chilean people has
been a real.blessing to us!

xiS a closing thought, we're reminded once a-gain nf our Lord's words in Matthew 28:
18 20:

"Jesus told the disciples, '.till authority in heaven and earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples in all the nations, baptizing them
into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching
them to obey all the commands I have given you; and be sure of thisthat I

am with you always, even to the end of the world,' "

(Living New Testament)

Let's all strive with greater enthusiasm to win this world to Christ!

Dear Christian Friends and Loved Ones,

from the country of Chile. It leaves us with mixed emotions, as we look back over^the past year and see the changes that have come into our life, and think ahout the many experiences
which we've shared with our Chilean brethren in Christ,
thanks to our Heavenly Father.

As we write this newsletter, we're reminded that it's the last one we'll be sending out
Time has flown by so quickly, and

we can see where much has been accomplished for the Lord's kingdom. For this we give all

Reponses to the radio ministry have more than doubled this past month, so we praise God that His Word is still having a great effect in this country of Chile! It is truly
wonderful to be a>le to use this means of mass communication to "sow the seed" and then to

see the harvest reaped as a result of the Bible Correspondence course and personal followup work. Men from the Osomo congregation have been calling on students here in Osomo,
and opened up several new home Bible Studies.

In working with the Osorno brethren this year, we have tried to stress the ir.portance of their-not being "dependent" upon the missionary. We feel they have adequate leadership to carry on their own affairsj as well as spread out to nearby cities and towns to begin new work Three regular home Bible Studies are conducted weekly in La Union, and in RiachuelOj a home Bible Study is held every other week. Recently, Bro. Orlando Andrade began showing the Bible filmstrip series in the small town of Carte Also. W'e hope you'll continue praying for the vision rjid zeal of the Christians here in Osomo. They truly have

been an inspiration to us in this past year, and we know that with the Lord's help, they'll
continue to win soula to Christ!

The-second week of February, 6 young men from Osorno traveled by bus to Curacru for the Intermediate week of Church camp# They are all just bubbling over with enthusiasm, as they really appreciated the opportunity to attend camp, v;here they could loam more from God's Word, and fellowship with other Christian young people. Three young ladies attended the Senior week of camp, bringing our total number of campers to 9* Although there weren't as many campcrs in attendance that week, they never-the-less enjoyed the classes and fellowship! They are already making plans to go again next year, so we feel like the effort made to send
them this year was well worth it!

We're happy to report that Ed Holt from S.antiago is recovering rapidly from his bout with typhoid fever. After we sent out our February newsletter, we were informed that he
was confined at home, rather than in the hospital, due to crowded hospital conditions. thank you for your prayers on his behalf during this difficult timet V/e

On Sunday, February 21st, our last Sunday in ^hile, the Church in Osorno had a wonder
ful "Paseo" (holiday) at Playa Maiten, a beach on Lake Llanquihue. Everyone, including our

guests from La. Union, Riachuelo, and Puerto Octay, was up bright and early, as we traveled together on a bus which was rented especially for the occasion. Although the day started
out to be cold and cloudy, the sun began shining brightly in the afternoon, and the "young at heart" went swimming in the icy lake! Those of us less brave went bla.ckberry picking, and played Volleyball. Especially enjoyable w-\s the "Asado al Palo" or outdoor lamb roast, with all the trimmings! At the close of the day, we all joined in a closing friendship

circle, as we sang some favorite songs and choruses, prayed together, and heard the iv^ord of God proclaimed It is not easy for us to leave thocc? people whom we've come to love in

Christ Jesus, but we know we shall not be separated in Spirit, and that one day we will meet
again on "Higher'Ground,"

Our paperwork has all been completed now to ejiable us to leave Chile. Plans call for us to leave Osomo February 26^, and Santiago February 28~, arriving in Indianapolis March 1st, The month of March will be spent visiting with our families, speaking to congregations in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa, and moving to El Paso, Texas. We trust you'll be in prayer
for us as we travel and relocate.vith the work of Spanish-American Evangelism. It's our

prayer that the opportunities for service might increase as we yield our lives more to Him!
May God bless you all richly, is our prayer!
