Centre for Leadership - A Proposal As professional managers it is important for students of SPM to develop an understanding of Leadership as a functional skill

as also a part of personality building for success in professional world. The students have also indicated their desire to develop leadership qualities and skills during their tenure at SPM, PDPU. The center will cater by initially hosting various Business Leaders in Energy and Infrastructure Domain. In response it is proposed that a series of leadership talks be organised under SPM, PDPU auspices. These talks may be moderated by a reknowned professional of high caliber. The speakers for the one and half hour talks be identified from PDPU domain. With 15 talks planned over a 4 month period we shall video shoot the talks for subsequent transcription. The transcriptions with due editing shall be published as a book, while the videos shall be converted to marketable CDs. Prof. Atul Tandon a reknowned professional and Academician can be invited to undertake the talks. He has the personality and acumen to make the sessions lively and bring out the essence of leadership. The talks shall be organised through student volunteers wherein right from background material collection, managing contacts, video shooting sound recording transcription and all other support shall be provided by the SPM student body. This participation by students shall offer a unique learning opportunity to the students. A dedicated Research Associate with competence and high calibre be identified to support the Leadership Learning. Road Map for Centre for Leadership: -Start off with organizing talks from Business Leaders -Allocating an office space and having dedicated Research Associate -Looking for Sponsors and also the value addition which can be given to sponsors. This step is very important as it will make the Centre Financially Independent -At every quarter end collating and packaging a product which can be used by the center -Simultaneously Leadership Newsletters can be started through Research Associate. The Newsletters to invite Leadership articles from B schools across Ahmedabad and offering the best article award ( a cash prize of certain amount) to 1 student per month. The Newsletter will add to value being projected to the sponsorer. These newsletters to be mailed to Industry on quarterly basis.

-The center will also serve as a platform to engage academic leaders in their respective functional domains to deliver lecture. Dr. T V Rao can be invited to inaugurate the Center of Leadership lecture and he can associated as a mentor for the Center, hence student volunteers will also get a good chance to interact with various leaders. -Once the center has invited some luminaries like Shri K V Kamath, Member, Board of Governors, PDPU can be called upon to deliver lecture at PDPU level. He was about to come last year to deliver Leadership lecture but it was cancelled. If the lecture is facilitated through Center of Leadership @ SPM then it will also increase the visibility of SPM amongst Technology and Humanities MBA aspirants within PDPU -Mr.Ranajit Banerjee, Shri B.S. Negi ji, Mr. Sachin Sehgal, Mr. Palak Sheth, Dr. Pestonjee, Dr. T V Rao can help connect with various Industrial and Academic Leaders. Also as mentioned by Shri D.J.Pandian, IAS, PS-EPD and CSC-BOG, PDPU about his interest to write and invite Business leaders from Hazira and Dahej. -A separate webpage about Centre for Leadership to be created -After the Case Writing Workshop is conducted the students can be facilitated to interact with various Indutsry representatives and understand their Leadership challenges. The student to understand the challenges and associated context and work towards finding solution of such leadership challenges. This exercise will sharpen the Leadership acumen of each student. - Establishing a culture driven towards Leadership and strengthening Industry Academia Linkage This exercise should be taken up as an integral project. Student incidental and Misc. expenses:

The team would be selected through a well defined selection procedure. On completion of the project the student volunteers shall be awarded with a certificate to acknowledge their contribution. Operational Challenges: Arranging required finances for facilitating guest travel, stay and local transport cost. Hence strong Sponsorship campaign to be undertaken and also a strong financial provision from University to support the Centre Facilitating academic flexibility to student volunteers working for Centre so that they can travel and interact with various Industry representatives. Facilitating their attendance and travel requirements through Centre. Following strict project management approach so that Invited speakers are confirmed one month in advance and team can have a monthly calendar in advance hence representatives from Industry can also be invited for the talks Facilitating One Window clearance mechanism
