A minimum residual oxygen scavenger concentration of 20 mg/L in the water was established and maintained throughout the system including the dead legs. (NOTE: Analyze water sample(s) for residual levels of oxygen scavenger at the location most remote from the oxygen scavenger inlet.) Once minimum residuals are verified, the system is kept tightly closed to prevent air entry. The system is maintained under positive pressure of 2% to 10% of the operating pressure, but not exceeding 350 kPa (approx. 50 psig), using nitrogen, a sweet hydrocarbon gas, or hydraulic pressure of the treated water. Thermal relief is installed for systems that are to be laid up with hydraulic pressure. If the operating pressure is less than atmospheric pressure, then maintain positive pressure at maximum allowable pressure but not exceeding 350 kpa (approx. 50 psig). Gages with a scale range not exceeding three times the target pressure are used to monitor the positive pressure in the system during lay-up. If a leak occurs or air enters the system, lay-up process is repeated after completing repairs. Dry Lay-Up: Water from the system is drained and complete removal of water is performed either by sweeping, mopping or scraping. If sea water was used for testing a pipeline, remove salt deposits by scraping with slugs of water containing < 4500 mg/L total dissolved solids until the water soluble sulfates and chlorides on the steel surface at the drain or outlet end are reduced to<80mg/msquare. The system is dried immediately to a dew point of -1C or less at all exit points, by blowing dry air or nitrogen through the system.

After blowing, the system is shut in with a positive pressure for not less than SAES-A-007, 12 hours to allow any remaining moisture to come to equilibrium with the Para. 5.2.3.2 dry air. After the shut-in period of 12 hours, the exit dew points measured are at below -1C. (NOTE: Repeat the drying procedure (Items C3 to C4) if the dew point has risen above -1C. ) SAES-A-007, Para. 5.2.3.2

B6

When the required dew point is reached at -1C after the shut-in period, pressurize the system to 2% to 10% of the operating pressure, but not SAES-A-007, exceeding 350 kPa (approx. 50 psig), with dry air or nitrogen having a dew Para. 5.2.3.3 point lower than -1C. Shut in the system, maintain and monitor the positive pressure during the lay-up period using pressure gages.

RE-INSP DATE

Upon completion of a succesful final hydrostatic test, the test water is displaced with nitrogren or sweet gas until no water drains out of the system.

SAES-A-007, Para. 5.2.4.1

C2

After water is drained, shut in the system under a positive pressure of 2% to SAES-A-007, 10% of the operating pressure, but not exceeding 350 kPa (approx. 50 Para. 5.2.4.1 psig), using nitrogen or sweet hydrocarbon gas. Vents or drains shall not be opened to atmosphere to drain the test water and replace the air with inert gas by either repeated pressuring or sweeping. NOTE: In the case of long (>20 km) pipelines, displacement of air by sweeping with inert gas-driven scraper shall be acceptable. Ambient Lay-Up: Ambient lay-up is used only if the following conditions exist: 1) drains are available at all low points to ensure complete removal of water; 2) the corrosion allowable has been provided; 3) the pitting can be tolerated; 4) the particular rust can be tolerated. If sea water was used, salt deposits are removed by spray rinsing or scraping with slugs of water containing less than 4500 mg/L total dissolved solids, until the water soluble sulfates and chlorides on the steel surface at the drain or outlet end are reduced to < 80 mg/m sq. After removal of all visible water by sweeping, mopping and/or scraping, close the system to prevent the entry of sand or rainwater. Install a vacuum breaker unless it is demonstrated that the system will not collapse under vacuum. Vapor-Phase Corrosion Inhibitors (VCI) & Other Lay-Up Methods: Use of vapor phase corrosion inhibitor has been approved by Corrosion Control Division of CSD. (NOTE: Detailed checkpoints shall be added or established upon CDS's approval of the method in application of the VCI.) Drying of Valve Body Cavities: After draining test water, the valve is positioned at 50% open position and body cavity is flushed with water containing <1500 mg/L of total dissolve solids and drained through the body cavity drain lines. Dry the body cavity to a dew point of -1C or less by blowing dry hot air or dry nitrogen through the drain lines. Shut in the system with a positive pressure for not less than 12 hours, after which exit dew-point is measured. Re-drying is repeated if the dew point has risen above -1C after the 12 hour shut-in.
