PART A 1. Managers can be classified by their levels in an organization and by the range of organizational activities for which they are responsible. Human skills are the capabilities that help managers see the whole enterprise as well as the relationships that exist among the various parts in the organization. The Contingency perspective proposed that there is no one best approach to management for all situations. Due to the worldwide pandemic of H1N1, the Malaysian government had advised the people to stay in their home countries to prevent the spread of the H1N1 flu. This is an example of a programmed decision. Certainty in the rational decision making implies that a manager can assign probabilities to outcomes that may result. A scalar relationship should have a clear and unbroken line of authority that extends from the lowest to the highest position in the organization. The first step in a delegation process involves the manager giving subordinates the power. Motivation is important to managers because it affects channel and sustain people's behavior. Physiological needs include the feelings of achievement and self worth through recognition, respect and prestige from others. Legitimate power influences others by controlling things they want, such as money, acceptance, praise, promotion and status. The Situational Leadership Model examines the interaction between follower behavior, the situation and the follower's readiness. Managers should be involved in the control function even if things are going as planned. A control system that generates inaccurate information can result in management's neglecting to take necessary action when a problem occurs. Steering control is a control system to measure the results of the completed task. The cluster chain grapevine is the most dominant grapevine pattern in an organization.
