Activity Time
Vocabulary: Pencil, pen, crayon, coloured pencil, marker, eraser, ruler, glue, scissors, book, whiteboard, bin, chair, table, desk, door, lights, clock, window Sentence structure(s): Question - What is this? Response It is a pencil/book etc Question Is this a pencil? Response yes/ No It is a book Song(s): wind the bobbin up Activities: Parcel, parcel This game is also a musical game that involves a wrapped parcel with many layers and in different layers there are school supplies. When the music plays the parcel is passed around and when the music stops the person holding the parcel unravels the parcel one layer and this continues until the end. Musical chairs - The game starts with the whole class and the same amount of chairs. Every time the music stops, chairs are taken away and as a result fewer players. Fly swat The students swat the vocabulary with fly swatters Game(s): Pass the card - Get the students into a circle. Pass a flashcard around. Each student has to say the word then pass it around. To make it more lively several cards can circulate simultaneously. Touch - Place your flashcards around the room. Shout out touch the (flashcard vocabulary) and students run to the correct card, touch it and shout it out.
Phonics
Review
Last week we introduced blending two letter sounds ap, at, as and an. The students enjoyed learning these sounds with the train so this week we will continue to review these sounds using the same basis of learning but introduce games to keep the students interest in blending as it is more challenging than just the single sound letters. The games this will include will be Get it, say it On either side of the classroom put 3 or more flashcards. Have a student from each team sat on the floor in the middle of the room, back to back. When you say a word they jump up and race to the right card.
New (letters/sounds/vocabulary)
This week the students will be reintroduced to the letters c/k,e, h, r, m, d they will be reviewed every lesson with the jolly phonics CD to memorize before we begin blending. The blending will be taught with the train that moves from slow to fast across the words, their alphabet books and other fun games.
Writing Practice
The students will continue to trace in their alphabet books during phonics and write in their number books twice a week during activity time.

The students are not currently doing sight words.
