ACTION RESEARCH Enhance Students Productivity and Creativity through Computer Technology Background of the Study Department of Education

keeps on creating and upgrading programs wherein students welfare is the core of every program introduced and innovated. These programs come up with different ideas to elevate students interest and performance. In support with DepEd programs, Zamboanga del Sur School of Arts and Trades - a Premier Technical Vocational School of Pagadian City provides a Competency Based Curriculum which includes the Internet and Computing Fundamentals (ICF) subject thus geared the students on computer knowledge, skills and abilities. Problem Identification Few of the high school graduates who cant pursue their college course may have difficulty in looking even clerical jobs because of being computer illiterate. Problem Analysis and Data Gathering Based on observation, the problem of computer illiteracy/ incompetence is due to the following: 1. 2. 3. 4. School computer fees. Insufficient number of computers. Lack of interest. Incompetent teacher.

Formulating Hypothesis Based on the preliminary data, students lack of interest to learn computer basics is the leading reason of being unskilled and inefficient to perform computer works. Experimentation and Action Students are basically active and energetic. But when in a class discussion, mostly feel bored to listen and participate which result to lessen their interest to study. So, practical and hands-on activities are given to students which are very effective to heighten their interest. Furthermore, the number of computers is enough for the students to have a ratio of 1:1 1 computer per student. Therefore, every student can operate the computer and achieve the technical ability needed at the end of the school year. Evaluation Every teacher agrees that students performance and interest boost when they are directly involved in activities rather than just listening and observing. Conclusion and Generalization We help our students build a solid foundation of fundamental learning and computer skills, attitudes and knowledge tools that can truly empower their lives even if they cannot pursue college degree, they can do clerical work. Students gain an academic edge by developing proficiency in using computers as tools for learning, productivity, creativity and entertainment. To attain this proficiency and to intensify students interest, hands-on and practical activities allow them to learn by doing.
