TRADITIONAL DESIGNS FOR SMALL AND LARGE CHURCHES To more cosey meet the modern needs oi its parishoners, eiiorls are being made to eileci cLoser participation of the
congregation in the serv ce. Because ol the need ior better ght ng to produce comlortable read ng eves, mosl lighting equipaaent in older struclures is inadeqLtate and obsolete. Whereas provsons ior proper locatlon of ghilng outets can be easily Tnade in new buidings, l is often irnposs ble to change lhese ocal ons in existlng build ngs, because of aesthet c considerations or prohibitlve cost. ln sma er churches where lighting outlet spacing s not too great and cel ng heghl allows suspension of fixtures at aestheljcal y peasng heiqhi for qood distrbullon. lhe singe downl ght desgns shown in ouT T-7 Tradtional, or C-11 Contemporary Catalogs, are usually very adequale. For the larger churches. however. ihis equiprnent may be too small inscaleorhave nsufficient lamping possib tes to obtain efficlent results. The distribution of down ght and the area coveTed at pew eve s dlrecly dependent upon the heightat which un ls are rnounted For uniform coveTage. the spacing between units delermines this mounting height ln un ts using a s ng e f xed downlght i may be necessary to suspend these units at heights greater than des rable for besl aesthetic requ rements, dLre to greater spac ng betureen outlets The designs presented in ihis catalog have been deve oped to meet this particular need. They are the resu 1 of experlen.e on rnany custorf installations in whlch the Eye-Easy eng neering princ ples embodied have been proven. The incorporat on of ADJUSTABLE PERIPHERAL DOWNL GHTS using R-40 reflector fiood amps In addition to the fixed center ciownlight. provides rauch wder distribution of light and sulficient amp waltage for eilcient, un forra lighting results at readlng leves. This permts fixtures to be sltspended at best heights for visua appearance in spite of wderspacing beiw-oen un ts As a result of ower suspens on levels the ght ng eff ciency s ncreased, with ower wattage required in relat on to area covered, to produce excellent results. With the add tion of ndrectand dffused arnping each of the e ements of d reci. nd rect and d ff used llght ng can be switched on separate circuits tor varying requ remenl, resu ting n a f exib e, glare free lighting syslems The wide lat tude of lampng possibi tes permits ncreasng or decreaslng the watiage to the lunclional needs as wel as the aesthetc effect
desired. When used as the main Nave unit, suppleraentary rnatch ng equ pmeni for olher locations can be found in our T 7 Catalog. Standard Suspens on Hangers and Lowering Winches are shown on the inside back cover of this cata og; Spec fication. Finshes and Glass are shown on Page 23 of our T-7 Catalogs, whlch ths cata og supplements. Actual Finish and Glass Samp es are available upon request. Our representatives or ourse ves wi be happy to make recommendations toward an outstanding lighting insta ation. LIGHT AND SOUND Th s equ pment has been des gned for the optional ncorporation of sound eqlr pmenl speakers without sacrificing the
basic functional purpose ot lighting. D agram (Fig.K), shows prov s ons wh ch can be made in the center housing lor nsta aton of speaker equpment by your sound contractor. Upon receipt of dmensiona details of ihe speaker selected we can prov de the raounting ho es in the easiy ren]ovable
speaker grilles supplied by us for nsta ation by him. Shie ded speaker wire will be lnsta ed by us n the equ pment ior connection. With adjustable down ighting in the outer per phery and the speaker ocated in the center of the Lrnii, the best lunctions of iight and sound are atta ned wlthollt any compron'r se oi either
system.
Our engineering department will be happy to work with your sound contractor toward
Fig.
max mum TesLrts. A List ol our L GHT AND SOUND installations wh ch have given ..any years ol satislactory seru ce will be iurnished upon request. ENERGY CONSERVATION. LONG LAIlIP LIFE With the need lor Energy Conservat on, great str des in the developrnent of hlgher efi c ency lamp sources have been, and are still being made. These sources, which prodltce h gher lumen oulpLrt per walt of energy used and give longer lamp life, all requ re ba lasts, result nq n hiqher init al cost of equlpment, but save e ectrica consumptjon over their extended liJe. At t mes these ba asts can be ncorporaled into the fixture but oiten because ol nsufficient room it becornes necessary to mount the ballasts remotey n craw space above the ceiling, if ava able. Re{leclors must also be ncorporated to obtain the most efl c ent dislribution patlerns. The amps are also more costy. but because ol ther onger Liie and reduced mantenance cost for replacement, this d fferenlial ls somewhat reduced lncandescent amps shown in this cala og have an average lamp lie of 2000 hours. whereas the new more ell cient sou Tces have amp lves of lrom 700C lo as high as 24000 hours. S nce church I ght ng is not used as extens vely as some other types of genera lighting, we estimaie that the 2000 hour lile of incandescenl amps, based upon an average equipment use ol about 10 hours per week, wou d project an average lamp life of approx mately 3 to 4 years before amp rep acement becorfes necessary With the same average weekly use with the more efficient amp souTces. ths would result n 12 years or mor-o of use belore lamp replacement becomes necessary. A declson then becomes necessary to determne whether the longer amp lile lhe lower maintenance cost to replace amps, and ower energy costs outwe gh the higher nitia equ pment cost and higher amp costs for their limited use. In some cases. replacement of the ncandescent lampng with ihese moTe ellcent larnp souTces can result n 50 to 60% reduct on n wattage w th a 1O to 55% increase in umen output, and a 3 to 10 times longer amp life. Co or qua ty is also an importanl cons derat on. Some energy saving amps do not have the besi color quaLty for chrrrch light. ancl though development in new lamp sources s continu ng, at present I s necessary to comb ne var ous lamp sources present y available lo obtain the best fina results at rnin mum cost. All unils in th s catalog are ava ab e w th energy elf cienl amp sources, butan ncTease in equipment cost, and cost of larnps n the area ol about 15 to 20% shoud be anlcipaled. Because of the continung developraents we can engineer and
propose the appearance clesign oi your choice equpped with the n]ost recent amp sources, and based upon your specfc needs, we can subm t a lamplng suggeslion and quotation upon your special request enclos ng a sei of p ans for our analysis.
