Youth Initiatives:
The development
of a Youth Club in
Tarporley
RESIDENTS will have read in a previous
edition of Tarporley Talk that plans have been
made to establish a youth club in Tarporley,
which complements the existing clubs at the
Baptist/Methodist Church and the Storehouse
Church.
Things have developed quite rapidly after
Parish Councillors and he Police met with the
students at Tarporley High School. We now
have a group of Year Eight students who are
willing and interested in becoming part of the
management group. We have had support
from staff in the school, who have facilitated
meetings between students, councillors,
police, Connexions Youth Workers, the Youth
Federation and other members of the local
community.
Discussions were held with the Landlords of
the Crown Public House and it was agreed
that part of the premises could be used as
the venue for the youth club. It is envisaged
that the young people will meet on Monday’s
or Wednesday’s from 6.30 to 8.30. There are
suitable facilities at the Crown to ensure that
the young people have an enjoyable time.
The youth club will exist as a separate
gathering from the main public areas and no
alcohol will be served, as the maximum age for
the club will be sixteen. The use of licensed
premises for a youth club has been tried
successfully in Tattenhall.
The youth club will play a vital role in the
development of other activities for the young
citizens of the parish. An example of this would
be arranging trips to the ‘Boneyard” skate park.
The police have kindly offered to organise
transport for this activity.
The important central feature in the
establishment of the youth club is that the
young people who live in Tarporley and
those who visit the village regularly to meet
their friends are fully involved in managing
and developing the club and the associated
activities. We do need parents and other
volunteers to help support this project to ensure
that it is a success.
If you are interested and are willing to offer a
couple of hours a week to help, please contact:

A public meeting will be held at the Crown
Public House on 16th June at 6pm to discuss

FOOTBALL TALK...
TARPORLEY VICS FC
Reserves of
strength!
TARPORLEY Vic’s Reserves side were
the focus of our attention after the First
Team had completed their remaining fixture
during April. Tarporley’s youngsters had
an exiting climax to their second season
playing in senior football and all the effort
and commitment was made worthwhile with
a fourth place finish in the Crewe & District The triumphant Reserves
Premier League and appearances in two
Finals.
The first final, the Crewe and District Junior Plate Final, turned out to be the high point of the final month.
Tarporley lined up against Curshaws F.C. who had just been crowned League winners and whom the Vics
had not beaten previously. Tarporley Vics were undaunted by this challenge and set about the opponents
with enthusiasm. Leading 1-0 at half time through a Rob Edge goal Tarporley then played their opponents “off
the park” in the second half and ended the game 3-0 victors. The two second half goals were scored by Joe
Marley and Pete Aidley and 3-0 was a fair reflection of the dominance that the Vics enjoyed. Thanks to all the
supporters who made the trip to Crewe and cheered on the Vics in this memorable game.
The following week MMU FC visited Tattenhall to take on the Reserves in the Semi final of the AJ Cooke
Trophy. The Vics took the lead with a Steve Lightfoot penalty but were pegged back by a late equaliser. The
game went to penalties and keeper Chris Jones showed his quality by keeping out all the MMU spot kicks to
see Vics through to the final against Lostock Gralam Reserves.
Lostock took a 2-0 lead only for the Vics to bravely fight back and equalise in the second half. With the Vics
expecting the game to go into extra-time again Lostock seized their opportunity and score a brace of goals in
the dying minutes to run out 4-2 winners.
The First Team finished in fifth position in the Cheshire Building Society Cheshire League Division Two. Their
final game saw them defeat Congleton town 4-2 and results elsewhere meant they stayed above Warrington
Town, who for a long time were favourites to take the League. The Season saw the Vics score more goals,
concede less gaols and win more games, so the bar has been raised with regards to our expectations for next
Season!
On the evening of the 4th July Tarporley Vics will be holding their awards night at the “Flacca” at Tattenhall.
The evening will include a barbeque and presentations to First Team and Reserves players. Everyone is
welcome to join us for this social evening, including prospective players who want to know what Tarporley Vics
are all about. Our website (Tarporleyvics.co.uk) will carry further details of the evening and training dates and
times in due course.
Thanks to everyone who has supported and sponsored Tarporley Vics over the past Season and Steve,

its open day on Monday 18th May.
Guests were given a VIP tour around the
venue, at Worleston, which is just 10 min-
utes from Tarporley.
With irresistible demonstrations of culinary
masterpieces, Head Chef John Badley
showed how the restaurant’s mouth water-
ing a la carte dishes were prepared. Geoff
Musson proudly exhibited the range of wines

which was a delight to the tastebuds, and a

CLIMATE change is an issue facing everyone
– and it has certainly not bypassed pupils and
staff at Tarporley High School.
There is a dedicated Eco Schools Team made
up of teacher, support staff and pupils from
years 7-9
They meet meet at least once a half term and
discuss matters in school, such as recycling
and reducing energy use.
Alex Staniforth, from Year 9, said: “So far, we

in school by organising a weekly collection of
