much deserved face lift. New flooring and paint, welcomes all our shoppers. We also crafted, and adopted a new strategic plan which will guide and inform our efforts organizationally for the next 3-5 years. As we look forward, the remainder of 2013 is no less exciting. Our annual Back to School days, an initiative of the Free Store is just around the corner. Additionally, we will host our annual training conference October 26-28. This years theme is Embracing Diversity: Congregational and Community Development in a Multicultural World, and with expanded capacity resulting from our recently completed building renovations we hope to conduct our biggest event yet. Lastly, we have already scheduled our annual celebration event. On November 13, Nationwide Childrens Hospital will again play host to this celebratory evening. This year we welcome Dr. Scott Morris as our guest speaker. A board certified family practice physician and an ordained United Methodist minister, Dr. Morris is CEO of the Church Health Center located in Memphis, TN. So as you can see, as quickly as the 1st half of the year has come and gone, the second half of 2013 is bound to progress just as quickly. I look forward to you joining us for the inspiring journey that awaits us. Sincerely,

residents. For those that are local, they will travel back to their homes each evening. For those visiting CD4AP from afar, the building will become their home both literally and figuratively. Each night, meeting rooms are converted to sleeping space and common areas are converted to quiet places where both youth and adults can debrief all that they experienced that day. Comprised primarily of youth group members and their adult leaders, VIM teams tackle everything from tending to community gardens, painting, minor home repairs, and community clean-up. While VIM team project days and weeks can often be quite hectic, I am so thankful for these individuals and their commitment to improving the quality of life for those living on the South Side. Thank you to all the VIM teams, past, present and future for all that you have contributed.

Wow, its hard to believe that its already July. In just 6 short months, we have experienced a number of initiatives and efforts coming to a successful close. Free Store Back-To-School Event: Clothing & Supplies Needed

Its Back to School time again at the United Methodist Free Store! We will be partnering with our neighborhood schools again this year to provide school supplies for all the students at four of the local elementary schools. The parents and teachers were very grateful for the support provided last year, and they are very eager for the event again this year. Please continue to gather your school supplies through VBS, Sunday morning offerings, and other creative means you have established through the years. Please bring them to the Free Store the week of August 5th. Due to the large quantity of items needing to be sorted, the earlier in the week the supplies are delivered, the better. If a group from your church would like to help sort the supplies, we will be packing them up August 12th through August 14th. Clothing for all school age children is appreciated. New underclothes, socks, and uniforms (dark pants and skirts, and white tops) are needed. For a complete list of school supplies we need, please see list below. Summer is here and that means its time to welcome Volunteer In Mission (VIM) teams from far and wide seeking both short (a few hours to single day) and long (upwards of a week) opportunities to engage in impactful community based projects and clean-up initiatives. This year, VIM teams are expected almost every week beginning in mid-June through end-of-month July. While many will originate from Central Ohio, others will travel from as far as Michigan, Minnesota, and West Virginia for the purpose of lending their time, talent, and treasures to the South Side and its

headed up by Denny Stephens have burst into bloom. Planting was later than at the South Side Community Garden because of a broken water line. Now all the vegetables are coming up in the boxes. The Boy Scouts are earning merit badges for gardening with us there. They have built us a beautiful compost bin which we will enjoy for years to come. In June, 15 persons, including the scouts, joined Bill Dawson from the Franklin Park Conservatory as he gave us a demonstration on composting. Everyone enjoyed the class and well all be enjoying the produce for weeks to come.

Its gardening time again here on the South Side and we are all really busy. The South Side Communiy Garden has already had its first harvest of zucchini, squash, okra, peppers and basil. Stephanie Connors is overseeing this large garden which is near the site of the former South Side Settlement House. The Mike Dyle Community Garden at 764 Wager is just as busy. CD4AP Board Adopts New Strategic Plan

Community Development for All People received a technical assistance grant from the Ohio Capital Corporation on Housing which was used to secure the consulting services of CauseImpact!. The principals of CauseImpact!, led the CD4AP Board and staff through a process of strategic planning that extended over several months and included two, two-day offsite working sessions at the Procter Camp and Conference Center located in London, OH. The strategic plan will guide the efforts of CD4AP for the next three to five years.

New Home for Loaves & Fishes

The CD4AP daily lunch program, Loaves & Fishes has recently moved to its new location, storefront space located at 1702 Parsons Ave. The bright, cheery space has proven very accommodating during the first month of operation. Current plans are to remain at this location until renovations are completed at the Reeb Elementary School, sometime in 2015. At that time, Loaves & Fishes will move to the renovated building joining other agencies and organizations delivering programs and services to the community. Minor renovations were required prior to moving into the location. A big Thank You goes out to the men of Scioto Ridge for their efforts. In addition, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to New Carlisle UMC for their donation of tables and chairs. For more information contact Mark Rupp, at mrupp@4allpeople.net.

Faith & Finances Celebrates First Class of Graduates

Via collaboration with the Metro Columbus Christian Job Corps and financial support received from the PNC Bank Foundation, CD4AP graduated its first class of Faith & Finances on Saturday, June 16. The 14 graduates recently completed an 11-week curriculum designed by The Chalmers Center at Covenant College, a GA-based research and training organization that equips churches with economic development strategies that holistically empower people who are poor. As the name suggests, Faith & Finances is a faith-based financial literacy class offering basics around money management. Participants were led by instructor, Eugene Norris and were joined several times by associates from PNC Bank.

Participants will be offered a variety of workshops which will encourage them to take their ministries to the next level by exploring effective ways to embrace diversity, both inside and outside the church walls. workshop offerings, descriptions, and accomodations for the event can be found on our website: www.4allpeople.org.
