Biography A bouncing little baby girl was born on January 6, 1994 in Manila and was named Jezreel Deanne D. Nicolas. That baby girl that I am talking about is me. I am currently 16 years old. I am currently staying at Sampaloc, Manila. Both my mother, Divina Nicolas and my father, Edmundo Nicolas is a college professor at Technological University of the Philippines. I have a little brother named Jericho. As for my educational attainment, I graduated elementary in Philippine Christian University. Dasmarinas National High School is the school where I graduated high school. I am currently taking up Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. The truth is, I found it very difficult to pursue my studies but I still believe that doing my best will give an excellent result. And that result is fulfilling my dreams and goals in my life.

The grade I deserve in English class Every English class meetings make me vigorous and attentive. It was all because of the cool activities that we did that made me lessen the boredom. Because of this, it gives me the power to accomplish everything regarding with English class matters. The grade that I feel to deserve for our English class is just enough for an ordinary student like me. I know I have my own flaws in this class but I still feel to receive a satisfying mark of 1.5 or 1.75. I deserve this grade because first of all, I have always tried to put all my best in everything that I do especially in school because I know that my future depends on my education. I believe I was responsible enough to make sure my job was done and was also able to help out other team members when they needed it the most. I have also turned in all of my assignments and essays on time and have made the most of my class time to get a head start on any essays and homework. Paying attention in class whenever we have taken notes is what I do. Overall, I think that I have been an adequate student in this class. I honestly believe that this grade suits my performance.

I. DEFINITION PARAGRAPH Joie de vivre: A Joy of Living Joie de vivre is an untranslatable French term that somehow seems to mean more than the literal joy of living. It somehow imply great enjoyment of life, an exultation of spirit, a comprehensive joy and an attitude of life involving one's whole being. Happiness, contentment, jollity and gaiety are some words that are synonymous with this word. I strongly believe that Joie de vivre is an excellent word to define myself. Wherever I go and whatever I do, I always feel the cheerfulness within me. I am contagious and fun to be with. Youll never pass a day without seeing me smile and laugh at the same time. Being alive is such a pleasure to me and I love to live a normal and happy life. Joie de vivre is such an inspiring attitude in a way that it will give the others a positive outlook in life. Happiness does not depend on outward things, but on the way we see them. Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day.

II. NARRATIVE PARAGRAPH A Summer Vacation in Palawan Islands It was a one hot and humid summer of 2001 when we took a vacation in the wonderful Island of Palawan. Palawan Island is the largest is the largest Island of the Palawan Province, Philippines and is indeed one of the most magnificent places youll ever see. We travel there via Super Ferry

ship with my family and intimate friends. We first visited the bizarre Underground River which is remarkable especially the bats within the cave. Our next stop is the Crocodile Farm which I found terrifying because of those vivacious crocodiles. The Iwahig Prison, the worlds largest prison without bars, was quite astonishing because of its uniqueness. Through a pump boat, I experienced the unforgettable island hopping where we went from the different islets such as Pandan Island, Snake Island, Lu-Li (LulubogLilitaw) Island, Starfish Island and the Bat Island. I enjoyed swimming on its white sand beaches. Feeding the fishes is fun since they all swam After three days, we return to

towards you as you hold a piece of bread.

III. DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH The Life of Bill Gates: from a Maverick mind to Prosperity Bill Gates was born on 28 October 1955 and raised in simple surroundings in sopping wet Seattle. His father was a lawyer, his mother a schoolteacher. Bill Gates story sounds pretty conventional. A conventional beginning, but Gates story is far from boring. High school chums may have felt him a little geeky when he programmed computers at the age of just 13, but young Bill was just doing what he enjoyed. And it was this maverick

attitude that led him to ditch the stuffy, mock-English cloisters of Harvard for the world of business. Driven by a vision of how indispensable the computer was to become, Gates channeled all his energy into his baby, Microsoft, founded in 1975. It now employs over 65,000 people around the world. IV. ANALYSIS PARAGRAPH How to Analyzing a Poem A highly revered and influential art form, poetry is one of the most difficult and demanding literary works to interpret and understand. Poems range in length, style, theme and form and require an astute eye to draw out their meaning. To effectively analyze a poem, you must learn what to look for and where to find it. By following the steps, you can begin to unravel the mysterious world of poetry. First, Read the poem several times. Multiple readings are required in order to get a feel for the poems theme and emotion. Next, Note any words or phrases you do not understand in the poem, including in the title, and use a dictionary to look them up. The third step is to establish the dramatic situation of the poem by determining who the speaker is, where the poem takes place and what actually happens during the work. Then, you have to study the poem line by line noting the style. The fourth step is to interpret sensory images and objects by analyzing what they signify, or the emotion they evoke. The last

step is to determine the meaning of the poem by putting all of the previous elements together.

V. EXEMPLIFICATION PARAGRAPH Doodle your way to better Memory Far from being a waste of time, doodling can make a boring presentation or speech easier to memorize. Scribbling is normally taken to signify boredom and a short attention span, but a new study at Plymouth University in southwest England has shown that doodling while listening actually helps memory recall. The journal Applied Cognitive Psychology reported that volunteers given a doodling task while listening to a dull telephone message were 29 percent better at remembering details than non-doodlers. Forty participants were asked to listen to a two-and-a-half minute tape and note down the names of eight people discussing a party, as well as place names. Half the volunteers were told to shade in shapes on a piece of paper at the same time, paying no attention to neatness. Later all the participants were asked to recall the names of the eight party-goers and place names included in the test. Doodlers remembered an average of 7.5 names of people and places while non-doodlers could only recall 5.8.

Professor Jackie Andrade, from the university, said that if someone is doing a boring task, they may start to daydream. He said that doodling may be sufficient to stop daydreaming without affecting performance on the main task. The study suggested that in everyday life, doodling may be something we do because it helps to keep us on track with a boring task rather than being an unnecessary distraction that we should try to resist doing. VI. PROCESS PARAGRAPH Turning away from Temptation No matter how long weve been following Christ, we can never tend to avoid Temptation. There are a few practical things, however, that we can do to grow stronger and smarter in our struggle against sin. You can learn how to avoid temptation by practicing these five steps. The first step is to recognize your tendency to be tempted by our own fleshy desires. Temptation is a given, so dont be surprised by it. The next step is to run away from it. When you are tempted, God will show you the way out so you will not give unto it. The third step is to resist with the word of truth. Though it can be helpful to read God's Word when you're being tempted, sometimes that's not practical. Even better is to practice reading the Word daily, so that eventually you have so much of it inside, you are ready whenever temptation comes. The fourth step is refocusing with the praise. Praising God takes your focus off of yourself and puts it to God. The final step is to repent quickly when you fail. It is not the end of the world when

you fail, but it is very dangerous to persist in your sin. With these five simple steps, it will be no doubt that you are a hundred percent away from temptation and will be closer to God.

VII. CAUSE AND EFFECT PARAGRAPH Child Abuse: Its roots and outcomes One of the biggest problems of our society is child abuse. It is a brutal act of some adults on children which may be in the form of physical, sexual and emotional act. Child abuse is a problem that includes many types, has many causes, and affects the innocent, abused children negatively and leaves deep emotional scars in them. Often, children who have been abused and neglected report having lost their sense of faith, not just a religious belief in a divine being, but also their faith in themselves, other people and the world around them. Another most

destructive consequence of child abuse may be the detrimental effect on a childs school performance. Over and over again, research indicates that abused children demonstrate reduced intellectual functioning and perform very poorly in school. Victims of child abuse often become further victimized as adolescents and adults and/or become violent themselves toward their own children and in intimate relationships. One third of all

victims grow up to continue a pattern of seriously inept, neglectful or abusive child rearing as parents; one third do not; and one-third remain vulnerable to the effects of child maltreatment depending upon social stressors in their life. Distrust can result with abused children. These children begin to distrust the people closest to them, their family, and this lack of trust carries over into adulthood. VIII. CLASSIFICATION PARAGRAPH Genres of Music Different types of music help in soothing ones disturbed soul in the growth of concentration and also enliven us to live life to the fullest. There are varied genres of music as people have different tastes. Music can be classified according to classical, rock, metal, hip-hop, wedding ceremony, jazz, folk, techno, and opera music. Classical music is a complex form of music as it requires high musical skills, like learning the ragas and ability to coordinate with other musicians. The next type is rock music which is originated in the rock and roll era of 1950s. Its vocals are accompanied by guitar, drum and bass. In metal music, the melody of the song is heavily influenced by the structure of the songs. Hip-hop music always includes the use of instruments such as guitar, violin, fiddle, piano, bass and drums. Wedding music is used in the ceremonies like wedding. The jazz type of music is featured by strong and complex rhythms. Folk music is a kind of traditional music that is handed down from generations in every

culture. Techno music is in the form of electronic dance music and based on African American music styles like funk, electro and electric jazz. The last type is the opera music which has a remarkable combination of theatrical art and musical invention and is specifically played in the theaters. These types of music have different forms but have the same goal and that goal is to touch the hearts of the listener. IX. DIVISION PARAGRAPH The parts of an Essay An essay is a piece of writing, usually from an author's personal point of view. Essays can be literary criticism, political manifestos, learned arguments, observations of daily life, recollections, and reflections of the author. It can be divided into three parts: the introduction, the main body and the conclusion. The introduction is intended to lead the reader into the topic and clarify what the essay will specifically deal with. It usually consists of one paragraph, but this depends on the length of the essay. The next part of an essay is the main body that deals with the major ideas that support the thesis statement. Each main idea is presented in a separate paragraph and developed with supporting ideas in the form of explanations, definitions, or similar, and illustrated with examples where appropriate or necessary. The last part is the conclusion. In the conclusion, the reader brings back to the purpose of the essay and draws all the points together before making a final comment on the result of the discussion/ argument. Often this final

comment will point towards some consequence the discussion may have for the future or make some observation about what the discussion has revealed on a general level. Ultimately an essay will show a progression from a general level down to the specific and back up to the general level again. The reader will be expecting this so it gives your essay a sense of completion. X. ANALOGY PARAGRAPH Symbolic Meaning comprehends ones Personality Choosing objects to represent you is such a fun way for others to know you better. There are many various objects in the world that will help you define yourself. All you have to do is give your best in choosing the right object that suits your personality. The following are the objects that signify me. Kaleidoscope. As the viewer looks at one end and tries to rotate it, different colorful patterns will be formed. These patterns represent my characteristics which may be positive or negative. The viewer may also find it complex some time. Jigsaw Puzzle. If an important piece is missing, it looks awful. Ones it is completed, a great figure is formed. USB flash drive. Can store voluminous information and has a memory capacity of 256GB. It is smaller, faster, has thousands of times more capacity, and is more durable and reliable.

Candy. Just like me, it is small and sweet. Youll be astonished at the center or core of the candy ones youve tried it. It is assorted and you can choose any flavor that you like. Game console. Is entertaining and addictive. Ones you get along with it, youll find yourself coming back for more. Stuffed Toy. You can hug it wherever and whenever you are. It is cuddly and cute. Armor. It is something that gives protection and safeguard to a person. It is well-built and tough to deal with. Noble gas. It quickly reacts with others. It is odorless and tasteless which is a good thing. Rainbow. It is very colorful and vibrant. It is a good sign of a new hope. It will bring happiness and contentment to a person ones you see it. Battery. Is known as good source of power. Ones you use it, it will help you work efficiently. It stores energy and can produce it. I really think that these objects fit my personality. Try to read it and youll know me better.
